As we reported on recently, Cyberpunk 2077 is enjoying something of a resurgence on new-gen consoles, with more people playing than ever before. And as CD Projekt RED builds up to the release of the game’s first – and, admittedly, final – expansion, it’s confirmed that it is plotting a Game of the Year bundle for systems such as the PS5.
The package was revealed by joint-CEO Adam Kiciński in a report published by Polish website Stockwatch, where he admitted that the sci-fi RPG will follow in the footsteps of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by offering a definitive edition once all of the content is available. “It's the natural order of things,” he said.
Kiciński elaborated: “It was the same with The Witcher, which, after both expansions, was finally released as a Game of the Year edition and has been on the market that way ever since. The same can be expected in this case.”
Major story expansion The Phantom Liberty will launch some time next year, and will only be available on new-gen systems like the PS5, following the game’s disastrous performance on older consoles such as the PS4. The good news is that Cyberpunk 2077 is a lot more enjoyable these days – in fact, we awarded it an 8/10 in our PS5 re-review.

I hope it has a new trophy list like The Witcher 3 did for Complete Edition. Would love to replay it with a new set up. I went with Mantis Blades the first go around and had a blast. Tbh I only did MB’s because I saw a praying mantis by my pool, hung out with him for a bit then I dedicated my playthrough to him.
The most average game to ever get a GotY Edition perhaps? And that includes Far Cry 6…
Game of what year, exactly?
I love it when games get a Game of the Year edition when we don't even know if they're gonna win GOTY. It's even better when they're not even nominated, its so funny.
Where's the New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe Game of the Year Edition, Pisstendo?
@HotGoomba it's on switch. They didn't label it goty, they just charged like it was. 😂
All DLC on disc please!
Game of the year lmao. If it’s ‘game to be actually on BBC News due to being so unbelievably broken at launch’ of the year then yeah.
@NEStalgia Apparently the year where it got... awards when it didn't even come out yet. Lol
I typically no longer post comments anymore on cyberpunk articles but screw it. I'm excited for the DLC and excited for people to try out this excellent game for the first time in this complete edition next year.
It's funny to call it GOTY edition when it launched two years ago and unless you had a strong PC rig it certainly was everything but GOTY but whatever.
It's just marketing. That said though the game is much better now. With the glitches much more under control the actual game there is excellent.
Honestly think I like it even more than Witcher 3. Highly looking forward to Phantom Liberty.
That is absolutely hilarious.
Cyberpunk 2077 was CDPR's game of the year in 2020. It's the only game they released that year, hence their game of that year.
I think calling it game of the year edition is a stretch. It is a really cool game now that it has been mostly fixed and has the ps5 upgrade it so badly needed but the ps4 version still sucks. Such a shame it still carrys a stigma around and people cant move on and start being positive about the game instead of dwelling on the developers faux pas. Asking too much i expect.
If they were smart they'd save themselves the non-stop embarrassment of calling it the GOTY edition and just go w/ something like "Complete" or "Director's Cut". Simple.
This is another game that's sat in my backlog I'll probably never get around to playing, there are just too many now
@Sqush-Pare i was thinking the same as you but i've made the decision to play through it as soon as i've finished raganarok and gotham knights. Looks brilliant on the ps5 and plays so much better despite what other people will tell you.
I held off buying Cyberpunk in the black Friday PS store sale for this exact reason. Looking forward to buying this complete edition on sale in the future with all of the content. I have a large backlog to work through right now anyways so I don't mind waiting.
@Northern_munkey tbh... most average consumers aren't even aware of the botched launch and the disgruntled community. it's just some very vocal few, who enjoy engaging in the negative discourse more than actually enjoying some games in some misguided sense of "justice".
Game was fantastic and I was fine waiting to play it. It is odd however to name the re-release this way. Perhaps the point is to ralley some people up and increase the buzz about the game. In the ende of the day it's just a marketing gag.
@tameshiyaku The game was a mess for a long time dont act like it wasnt. That they fixed after the massive bad press does not make it a good thing.
It's an excellent game, but not game of the year.. haha they should have gone with complete edition.
@rjejr If they were smart they wouldn't have released the train wreck they released 2 years ago and lied to investors. You must be thinking of a different company.
@NEStalgia I want new super mario bros deluxe but I refuse to pay what they're asking for it I told myself I'll pay £20 Max for it & I'm sticking to it lol
@CWill97 well ps4 and ps5 are separate trophy lists, the game of the year editions usually also have a new list, so yeah I'd imagine it will including the new dlc into it
Did they ever add a 3rd person mode the first person elder Scrolls / fallout type gameplay put me off
It's been my game of each year ever since its release. I've not played a game that I've enjoyed as much since then.
@Would_you_kindly this! I've played some of it and I kind of enjoyed it, but I'd love way more to play it in 3rd person. I don't really get on with 1PS games.
@tomassi if the gameplay was more like GTA I'd definitely play it because the setting looks cool

Fail of the year. There was a typo I guess)
I'm pretty certain no one on this planet gave this a game of the year title/award.
Is Game of the Year now becoming the generic "complete edition" name now?
@Would_you_kindly
They ditched the 3rd person view unfortunately, which is annoying.
After playing the PS4 pro version for about 10 or so hours and giving up because of the performance I played it again a few months back and finished it off on PS5.
Much better performance (still crashed a few times tbf) but it's still far from a GOTY.
The world is largely dead when you open your eyes a bit, game choices don't mean much to the story in all honesty and the driving side of the game is pretty poor.
Graphics and decent voice acting don't make a GOTY. The game largely falls on its ass as soon as Jackie's portion of the game is done.
Even though the game is in a much better place now you can really tell the game went through development hell.
Lots of decent idea's lost in a sea of mediocre.
@tameshiyaku try and be serious here. The whole world knows what a botched mess it was at launch. 2 years after and its all everybody will ever talk about..its a great game now but lets not pretend only a few people knew it was f****d at launch..
They thought they won game of the year? That's cute.
@Northern_munkey literally. Many gaming things are not mainstream but this disaster of a launch very much was. All over the global news and taken off the PS Store for months :/
@CWill97 and so art imitates nature, once again!
@Would_you_kindly yeah I'd kill for that. I've finally, after 4 years, just about finished RDR2 and it's easily my favourite game of all time. As much as I prefer that setting, I could easily imagine getting immersed in Cyberpunk if it was in third person.
@NEStalgia 2077
@NEStalgia They were smart, look at all the free publicity they are getting 2 years later. If they just would have released a normally working game it would be forgotten, like that Horizon Zero Dawn sequel that came out earlier this year, whatever it was called. 🤷♂️
See also No Man's Sky. 😝
Well, it certainly is a game from a year.
@Would_you_kindly Sadly it's Nintendo. It'll be re-released for $70 on Switch 2, and have a sale 4 years later bringing it to $60. They're still selling Sushi Striker for its original $50 lol.
Game of the Year? More like Mess of the Year
@rjejr IDK NMS seems evergreen like Minecraft for basement nerds.
Poor Horizon. It's one of the only "AAAA" Sony titles that I find particularly interesting (Marvel can take a hike) and it seems like it's going the way of Knack. It sold as well as a pack-in, but nobody even remembers it exists.
I think Cyberpunk got lucky by virtue of being "edgy." A world of gangs and drugs and punk and counter-culture, that now has the "bad boy of game studios" lying cheating and stealing, coupled with a far too big marketing machine, it kind of "lucked" into "hard fail" somehow being a selling point. If this were Witcher 4, I don't think it would have recovered.
Cool.i have a huge backlog of games to play.so when its ready and down the line i will get it.word up son
@NEStalgia Well Witcher 4 should be good based on that 4 at the end of it's name. I mean if you can't get it right by the 4th game...
This was a new IP for them, w/ Keanu Reeves, and it's 1st person, which by default means I haven't played it yet, but a lot of people like FP shooter games, so this gets more of a following. Pretty sure I'm outnumbered there, if the rumours of Fortnite going FP are anything to go by. Fortunately it didn't happen this week.
I just bought HFW for $30 BF sale, which means this rumour about new DLC, probably for $30, is true. Then they'll announce the Complete Edition for $60. Which I think is what happened to me w/ HZD. 🤑

@Northern_munkey yeah, us here in our gaming bubble, sure we know. You're forgetting that the world does not only exist of enthusiasts, but all others that might on occasion pick up another game besides FIFA/Madden/CoD once in a while. You're "everybody" is perhaps a specialized consumer.
@tameshiyaku apart from the little fact it was all over the internet and just about every social media app..in this case the cyberpunk launch mess was the biggest news for a very long time..unless you lived in a cave or a monastry atop a mountain you would find it hard to not know about it..
@tameshiyaku if you just google "cyberpunk news coverage" you will be able to see exactly how much this games botched launch and just about every other issue was covered by the media and not just gaming media sites such as this one (which got more milage out of this than anyone i suspect) but the popular news papers the worlds sheep ingest daily..so while i can see the point you are trying to make and commend you for sticking to your guns you just have to accept that gamers all over the world regardless of the genre they play are not some kind of elite,niche or individual beings you want them to be and you also have to accept that people outside of your gaming communitys bubbles know about cyberpunks ***** show of a launch. That amount of coverage is always going to detract from the vast improvements the game has recieved over the past 2 years.
Game of What year more like...regardless this doesn't affect me. I already own the game on PS4 and will just wait for a sale on the DLC.
Unless they release a physical GOTY PS5 version, then I'll wait for that to be dirt cheap.
More like most broken game launch of all time.
I’ll admit that it’s a much better game now. I’ve played about three hours of it on PS5. But man… those early days… game will never live that down.
@Northern_munkey that's a long reply and I don't give enough of a * to reply. Have a good day.
@tameshiyaku 👍
Ignoring technical issues, honestly thought it was average.
@Jayslow it's not often I see a positive comment on a cyberpunk 2077 article so cheers to you for that. I didn't start playing the game until the dedicated PS5 version was released but I can honestly say that the improvements from day 1 on PS5 to now in early 2023 the game is incredible. Definitely a game worthy of praise for it's vastness depth. It's still NOT okay they launched the game in such an abysmal state but I am glad I decided to give it ago on PS5. I'm really looking forward to the DLC ✌️
