I feel bad for horizon if it came out in 2021, it would have won goty.
At this point, we at least know that a new Horizon guarantees an even better game coming out.
These self made awards really seem disingenuous. GoW is my top game this year but feels kind of weird for a company to give so many awards to a game they own.
@nessisonett kind of afraid it's going to release next to GTA 6 at this point.
@Colour voted for by the community.
Thoroughly deserved imo. I had a great time playing through Ragnarok and even my non gaming wife was even glued to the screen from start to finish. The story, combat, graphics, characters and bug free gameplay (for me) were all immensely enjoyable and i felt a little bit empty after the credits rolled and i got the plat. Nothing has hooked me and drawn me in to its world this year, or infact, for quite a few years like Ragnarok. Nice to see Stray getting some love too.
Yep, I agree with all of those GOWR wins. That reminds me, I need to download the GOWR soundtrack - it was so good 🙌
Guerrilla games is probably wondering what did they ever do to us to deserve so much disrespect, surely it at least deserve to win best Graphical Showcase 😅
The list looks bad when it has GoWR listed for so many but that is what I voted for. Horizon Forbidden West should have had won at least some of them. If there was a category for fun gameplay and unique world then I'd give it points for those.
@ItsBritneyB_tch No I get that, it just always seems weird to me. It’s definitely the total package and deserves it but still feels like someone’s trying to sell me something.
Well deserved another masterpiece for PlayStation.word up son
@Americansamurai1 The VR one’s got Hogwarts, Yakuza, Atomic Heart, Forspoken, Dead Space, Wo Long and the Resi 4 remake all within about a month!
@Kidfunkadelic83 Agree thoroughly deserved in almost all categories. What blows me away about Ragnarok, and GoW before it, is how consistently it excels in just about every area, even if some games are better in one or two areas almost none excel so frequently. It doesn't really have a weak aspect IMO a massive testament to the talent all over SMS.
My only criticism of the awards is I think Horizon was a better graphical showcase for PlayStation. They are both extremely pretty games so it's splitting hairs a little, but the fact Horizon was full open world edges it for me. Always the bridesmaid!
Also had that bluesy feeling after rolling credits. Almost went back and replayed 2018 and Ragnarok back-to-back but decided otherwise. Knowing nothing AAA would quite fill the void I bought forward my January backlog month and have been trucking through a smorgasbord of shorter games. Cathartic to cross so many off.
At least it can beat Elden Ring to one award.
@themightyant yes, 2018 had the same effect on me too. I was trying to fill the void with something similar and just couldnt find anything. I ended up completing TLOU (for the first time) and whilst i love it in a different way it wasnt as balls to the wall fun as GOW. Im now playing through FFVII remake which im enjoying too.
@Kidfunkadelic83 FFVIIR was on the cards here too, but didn't think I would be finished in time for my backlog month in January.
Considering how much time i've ended up playing, in smaller games, I was likely wrong, but too late now and i've had a great time playing games like Nobody Saves the World, Scorn, The Gunk, Olija, Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth.
Forbidden West? More like “forgotten west”! Kidding. Love the game. But the timing of its release is its undoing. Elden and Ragnarok just blew always players this year.
...when this GOWR hysteria falls under table and we return to normal life. This all starts to be ridiculous...
Dunno man, Gran Turismo 7 for Best Sports Game seems pretty iffy to me, God of War Ragnarök's wolfsled racing was tight.
Best graphical showcase should be horizon forbidden west & best use of dualsense I don't think god of war really used it much at all
GoW Ragnarok was good, but not better than Elden Ring imo. I even preferred GoW 2018 to the new one, which had worse pacing and all the puzzles ruined for you.
It's not the best game I've played this year personally but I don't see how it wins best graphics, The Last of Us Part 1 is the best looking PS5 game I've played and I'd put Horizon above it as well. As for soundtrack, I can't think of any music from it, I get that it's popular but some of those categories it seems to have won just because more people played it rather than it genuinely being the best in that area.
Guerrilla is currently at Microsoft being consoled. Y'all don't deserve them.
I thought that this was because it was playstation exclusives only, but then I saw MW2 and now I'm genuinely confused as to how Elden Ring didn't win a single award
At least can beat Elden Ring on...PlayStation sites. 😂
@Colour
It's users voted awards on playtation blog. It was always going to be God of War win on every category.
I admit I have not purchased this game yet because I have not even finished the 2018 game yet, and I also admit from the gameplay videos a while back it does look like it fixes some issues I had with the first one with combat and area design, but this whole OMG GOW BEST GAME EVER OMG OMG OMG111 hysteria feels like a rinse and repeat of 2018 when then a few years later everyone was like "Yeah, it was good, but it had some issues nobody called it out on at the time, it's not perfect." Maybe Ragnarok really cranks it to 11 and deserves the praise this time, I'll find out eventually, but I feel like 5 years from now everyone will be posting about how it wasn't deserving of all this hype, just like last time.
Maybe I'm just salty Guerilla get ignored
Yeah user voted basically just means a popularity contest so people will have just given it 1st in every category without any consideration.
I wonder how many didn't have time for Forbidden West in between Elden Ring and Ragnarok. Absolute shame Horizon got nothing (graphics, world design and Dualsense use were great) but I'm slightly consoled by the fact that Elden Ring didn't either. Great game but still over hyped by the From fanatics in my opinion.
Eh, it was a good game but some of you guys need to get your hand off it.
Definitely not biased lol. Elden Ring is the best game.
Kind of ridiculous to see God of War win every thing here. Ragnarok is a solid game but I definitely don't see what other folks see in it. It is the Playstation Blog though so I can't say I'm too surprised to see it get so much love there.
I think Horizon clears both GoW and Elden Ring. Great games but I genuinely don't see the masterpieces that others do.
Congrats to God of War Ragnarok on winning so many awards!
Also happy that the most anticipated game is Hogwarts Legacy!!!
taking tooting your own horn to a whole ‘nother level
Ok, these awards don’t mean ***** considering gt 7 won sports game of the year
I don't really have an issue with Ragnarok winning most of the awards. Back in 2018 I had zero dawn as slightly better but this year I have Ragnarok slightly better than forbidden west though because I haven't finished either it's subject to change. But forbidden west should have won for best graphics. I think Ragnarok is more held back by the PS4 than forbidden west is. Both look great but forbidden west visuals on the different tribes and underwater alone put it above the rest. Far as elden ring, fun game but otherwise just like most from games kind of shallow. I had it at number five this year behind those 2 and Gran Turismo and stray.
@Fishmasterflex96 LOL, Personally GT7 would be my sports game pick of the year too, considering I don't really play other sports games, but even for the PS Blog you'd think it would just default to MLB The Show. Or FIFA if we feed the stereotype
But yeah, a fan survey on the PS Blog social marketing platform chooses the current most marketed title in every category... not much of a surprise here.
I just finished it Ragnarok, it was fun but definitely doesn’t compare to Elden Ring for me. I just couldn’t put that one down for a couple of months. In Ragnarok’s case I felt I was powering through at times.
