Kojima Productions is celebrating its 7th anniversary at the moment. Part of those celebrations is a fascinating tour of the developer's expensive-looking studio, but we've also got a message from the main man himself.
In the above video, Hideo Kojima brings up the anniversary and the recent announcement of Death Stranding 2 (or DS2, as it's commonly referred to). He then goes on to talk about future works, including a "brand new game" and "some visual projects". The latter may refer to the just-announced Death Stranding movie adaptation, but the former is less clear.
He could be referring to what's known as Overdose, a supposed new horror title from Kojima Productions starring Margaret Qualley. Obviously there's no way of knowing right now, but Kojima hopes to provide more info on all his projects in 2023.
What are you hoping to see from Kojima Productions in the future? Discuss in the comments section below.

I'll take whatever Kojima makes. He may be the only man alive who can sell me an xbox.
Looking forward to Overdose more than Death Stranding 2. Hope it's similar to P.T
Bit strange to report on this game on here when it won't ever be released on PS.
thought he was doing ms title?
would make sense for this to be it, after DS2 announced
Kojima horror please!
@KAIRU Yeah I'm kinda thinking the same. This and Starfield make me want to buy an xbox at some point...
Yeah, it’s all a bit confusing as to what Kojima has in the pipeline. At least DS2 is confirmed for PlayStation. Whatever the Xbox cloud project becomes is unknown. Overdose isn’t necessarily the same thing as the Xbox project… unless I’m mistaken. And when he says here he has a new game to reveal, I assume it’s either Overdose, the Xbox thing (unless they are the same), or maybe something completely out of the blue. 🤔
I’ll be bummed if Overdose is an Xbox exclusive, but I did see rumors about there being a mobile phone gaming aspect to it and so I’m less enthused about it if that’s the case.
@Th3solution "being mobile phone gaming?" I'm interested where you read that rumor.
Kojima's Xbox project is tied to Xbox cloud division gaming. That means that his game will probably offload some of the calculations to the Azure. It will be classic PC/console game, but it will probably require internet connection.
Still only calling it DS2. Anyone else think it may NOT be called Death Stranding 2 and it may be something else?
@Godot25 Yeah, to be clear, rumors is all we have but there was a couple sites that speculated after the leaked footage, including IGN. This from Polygon: “Based on the footage, which is filmed offscreen twice and includes a picture-in-picture view of a woman playing the game, it seems that Overdose might be a mobile game — or at least playable on mobile devices. While this would be a bit of a departure for Kojima, Kojima Productions is working on a game for Xbox Game Studios, utilizing Microsoft’s cloud gaming technology.”
If there is innovative cloud utilization then maybe the mobile aspect is tangential but if there was an integral required usage of mobile devices to play the base game experience then I can’t be too excited about that. But I’ll withhold final judgement, because Kojima.
Don’t know much about ‘Overdose’ outside of the potato cam footage that was leaked. Looked like until dawn on phone.
@themightyant He already said it’s a working title so it won’t be called Death Stranding 2 or DS2, my guess is that it will keep the “Stranding” with another word attached to it, so maybe ‘Life Stranding’? Lol
@SlySnake0407 Interesting guess we will find out for sure soon. It was announced that he was working on a horror game for Microsoft so this game fits.
Also I doubt he would have enough staff to work on 3 games at once.
@themightyant Obviously just speculating here, but based on Kojima's track record with MGS sequels, my bet is on "Death Stranding 2" not being the full title. They either haven't decided on it, or don't wish to reveal it, but the game probably has a subtitle.
"Death Stranding 2: Son of a Beach", for example or whatever.
This will be the Xbox cloud project.
@Th3solution XCloud allows for games to be played on mobile phones via streaming, and I hear it’s not uncommon for developers to leverage the system for demos during development.
@Tharsman I’m not very informed about these kinds of things but the very fact that a game can be played on mobile has me categorize it in a certain way in my brain. It’s not a positive or a negative thing, but a lot of the games I play aren’t built to be properly experienced via mobile phone.
And is the Xcloud streaming a demo different from remote play that is done via the PS4 (or even the PS3)? I guess the cloud gaming means that you don’t have to have a console running at home connected to the internet, but otherwise is there something novel about the user experience? I’m genuinely ignorant of these things.
@Th3solution yes its like remote play but the "console" that's hosting the game is on Microsoft servers, similar to PlayStation Premium streaming (formerly PlayStation Now)
The xcloud streming tends to be better than remote play because there is additional hardware in the server to make the encoding faster than your console can locally.
Anyways, given that Kojima originally wanted this to be a Stadia game, it comes to reason what he wants is specifically the aspect where the game can be streamed to any screen and not be bound to a specific piece of plastic.
What kind of game design reason he has for that is anyone's guess. Kojima think in mysterious ways.
@Tharsman Maybe having everyone connecting to a common host can facilitate some kind of greater community interaction… I guess. [shrug]
Like it’s the first step closer to Ready Player One. …Except with our iPhones instead of haptic suits and VR. 😂
@Neonix DS will always be the Nintendo DS for me. So anytime someone says DS, I'll automatically think Nintendo.
How many projects is this guy working on?
I think working on multiple projects at once, could take longer to finish. And if you focus all your resources on one project, it'll be finished sooner. Maybe that way, can have a game out every 1 or 2 years. Like in the past. I remember on the ps3. There were so many games coming out. These days, I rarely find anything I'm interested in.
Overdose maybe? I hope it's not the Xbox exclusive.
