For those of you looking to streamline [Haha - Ed] your spaghetti of set-top boxes, Paramount Plus is now streaming to the PS5 in USA. While the service itself is not new, it’s one of the more recent additions to ever growing #Content cocktail, offering exclusive series like Yellowstone and, er, Halo. Wonder what that last one’s all about – never heard of it before?!
As we’ve reported previously, Sony’s new-gen system doesn’t exactly offer the most energy efficient way to watch your favourite television shows, but convenience does factor into the experience here, we suppose. There’s currently no word on whether Paramount Plus will be made available on PS5 in any countries outside of America, but we suspect it’ll arrive elsewhere eventually. Watch this space!

Paramount plus does have some good stuff, especially if you're into nickelodeon
Isn't Amazon Prime already on PS5? You can stream Paramount Plus through that in the UK
@carlos82 Man, that's complicated! That makes sense, though! Thanks for the correction!
@BeerIsAwesome Oh I 'member.
Paramount plus sucks in the UK we only get HD
@get2sammyb Thanks for the "reportedly previously" paragraph, you know someone was going to bring it up if you didn't. 😉
I used to stream a little on PS5 - got 5 months free of Apple TV+ on it so why not - but I've been using my built-in Roku TV since that article. 👍
Removed - current gen piracy/emulation
@Gamer_Guy you and your lovely morals, it’s enough to warm me up on this wet and windy Monday! Better not get too comfortable mind you, you’d have my phone out my hand while I slept by the sounds of it - saves you a fortune, after all!
Merry Christmas!
Am I the only person who doesn't use their console for anything besides actual games?
Rather see less of these so I don't need to get 5 streaming services to watch a movie.
Finally. I thought it was a big mistake the PS4 supports more apps than the PS5. I don't think Sony should have tacked the same UI onto the new console like Microsoft did, but at minimum, it should have supported the same media apps and file formats.
I had Paramount Plus for three months earlier in the year and cancelled my sub. The platform was fine, but I dunno… in my mid-30s there’s only so many old Nicktoons I want to watch for the sake of nostalgia before it gets old.
What a time to be alive!
I subbed to this for a few months to get caught up on the new Trek series, but canceled it because there were ads before each episode despite my paying extra for the ad-free version.
At the beginning of one episode there was a political ad telling me to vote for Prop XYZ. The next episode started with an ad telling me why I shouldn’t vote for Prop XYZ. I just can’t pay extra to be subjected to political propaganda.
Is there a reason that people stream things through the PS5, rather than just using an app through their smart TV? Doesn't the extra step potentially slow everything down and lead to more issues?
@Unlucky13 the software on TVs is usually slower than on consoles (particularly current gen machines). If your TV is a few years old they can even be much, much slower and buggy as hell.
My otherwise still pretty decent £1200 in 2016 Samsung TV is now slow as hell, and there are various things I need to do to trick it into opening certain apps and HDMI channels. I only stick with it since I’m too stingy to pay to run my PS5 in the background.
Newer TVs seem to fly around, though. I assume they will get slower with time 🤷♂️
@Unlucky13 I use it mostly when I want to use headphones, plugged into the controller.
I know, it's all about the wireless nowadays but I'm a bit behind in that area.
@Unlucky13 My TV apps are really clunky. We do use it for Amazon Prime as that stutters on PS5, but everything else goes through the system. It's much more streamlined and tends to look better too.

Wow, I guess I've just been lucky. I have three smart TVs that my family uses to watch streaming programs all the time, and I've never had a problem. Netflix, Disney+, Prime, Youtube, etc. I watch MLB games through the app that way too, and NFL games on Prime.
One I know I bought back in 2014, because I bought it on the same transaction where I got my PS4. And one I got in 2018 because I got it when I moved.
I watched Smile on Paramount+. It was terrifying.
@TheCollector316 Great movie.
My £15 Roku Express does all the streaming I need and it's powered by the TV's USB socket, so when the TV is off, it's not using any electric!
@get2sammyb It IS complicated. There's a useful app/website called Just Watch that you can use to see what TV & Movies are on which streaming services and which rental services / for how much. Use it the whole time, very useful.
@racinggamefanatic Not a bad deal. I’ve got the free version, but really my wife just uses it to rewatch the Office. I’ll be honest, I don’t watch much TV, myself, and I’m pretty much good with Netflix and that’s it. My wife and I binged The Promised Neverland’s first season about two weeks ago and I think that might’ve been the first show I’ve binged since Stranger Things… and I honestly think the only shows I’ve watched in the interim were Bake Off and Shark Tank. I let my wife and kids pick the streaming stuff since they’re the ones that use it… and I swear my five year old son prefers ancient cartoons. He’s watching an 80’s anime, Swiss Family Robinson, but usually just watches David the Gnome over and over again. A shame there isn’t a purely 80’s cartoon service for him. Glad I’ve avoided the bullet of current children’s “entertainment.”
Just to note, this is FREE to Sky+ subscribers who have the movie channel in the UK, you just need to link your accounts on the website and enter the Sky code on your box, and you can then log in and stream Paramount on any device that has it, not just your Sky box (i.e. ipad etc).
@racinggamefanatic Lol. Good luck with the gaming time and the baby. It’s tricky to balance for sure. My recommendation for gaming and baby time is to get a Switch! I was banished from my living room several times after I had my first one because my wife needed absolute silence to feed the baby… in other words, she wanted to fall asleep. That was Switch time for me!
@haoie Not everyone is lucky enough to own a Smart TV or Roku Stick/Fire TV box etc.
I do agree with you though, I only use my PS5 for gaming and sometimes the occasional Twitch stream.
@somnambulance My wife and 11-year old daughter watched Promised Neverland, and holy cow that stuff is dark. Far too much for me. I was in the room for a couple of episodes, and don't want to see any more. My daughter has become a really big anime fan in general, and she watches a ton on Netflix. My wife and I watch a lot more shows on Disney+.
@Unlucky13 I was a huge anime fan in my youth and through my 20s, and I still keep tabs on Dragon Ball, but that’s about it. I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched one in probably two or three years (or longer). She found Promised Neverland looking for something for my son to watch and she realized it was too extreme, but then she got hooked and I did too as a result. In a way, it felt sort of like going back home, but I can understand how it could be too dark. I really enjoyed it and hope the second season comes to Netflix some day. For my watching though, I prioritize games and I’m lucky if I get to play those with my commute and work schedule.
@racinggamefanatic BotW was the best game to play in those moments. I cannot think of anything that would’ve been better. Timing was everything. I’m looking forward to the new Zelda as well. Hope my son won’t mind watching.
