Well, this can’t be right, can it? Sony doesn’t do press conferences anymore! Apparently, the Japanese juggernaut still has a bit of a love affair with CES, though, and while you should never expect major PlayStation announcements at the event – well, it’s fair to point out that PSVR2 is literally in the livestream’s thumbnail. But don’t just take our word for it, because with the power of our CMS we can embed the video for you below:
Of course, CES doesn’t start until early January, and this event is still a couple of weeks away. Nevertheless, the press conference will begin at 5PM PT on Wednesday, 4th January, 2023, and if you’re not sure what time that is in your country, then we’ve included a handy timezone guide below. Yes, that’s more CMS magic.
- North America: 5pm (Wed) PST / 6pm (Wed) MST / 7pm (Wed) CST / 8pm (Wed) EST
- UK/Ire: 1am GMT
- Europe: 2am CET / 3am EET
- Asia/Oceania: 10am JST / 9am AWST / 12pm AEDT
With PSVR2 launching on 22nd February, 2023, we do actually expect the headset to have a decent presence during the showcase. While we wouldn’t necessarily anticipate any new game announcements, it’s possible we’ll see more footage of Horizon Call of the Mountain, and the platform holder may take this opportunity to announce key features, like whether there’ll be an updated version of the original PSVR’s Cinematic Mode, allowing you to play non-VR games in a virtual space.
Either way, we’ll be tuning in, and we’ll bring you all the appropriate news as it breaks.
[ Thanks, NielsNL ]

Can't really predict Sony anymore could be minor. Could be a major showcase who knows.
This actually makes a lot of sense. CES is exactly the sort of place to showcase it to not just gamers but so many other consumer electronics media and stores. Smart move.
I suspect there will be another few new game announcements, perhaps even launch game announcements. Looking forward to it.
And, if they could get around to confirming the ability to play 3D BluRays is being added to the PS5, that would be appreciated. I can then retire my PSVR headset.
I'm surprised at how excited I am for this product, I feel like Cartman waiting for the Nintendo Wii.
Their TVs should finally catch up feature wise with LGs instead of half measures.
Reason, the chip manufacturer they use has released the new T1000 chip that does 4 HDMI at 2.1 also with all features capable at once like Dolby Vision and 120hz etc.
For reference LG and Samsung make their own control chip hence they are ahead of the game over Sony on the TV front and with updates.
@Dezzy70 I don't think the 4 hdmi 2.1 ports thing is such a big deal for most people. It's just fomo created by reviewers and youtubers. Even so, I suspect we'll see complete gaming features on Sony TVs next year.
WipeOut..that is all
@Sil_Am
It can be easy be an issue.
One port is taken by earc if you want to connect to sound bar etc that way.
That then leaves you one hdmi 2:1 port for say PS5. If you have a series x you have no other full hdmi 2:1 port.
Hence my purchase of the LG C2 this year and not the Sony A80K. All four ports hdmi 2:1.
Hence Sonys massive decline in the tv market to LG and Samsung over the years.
I was always a Sony tv man until they started not supply the right connections and set up.
@Sil_Am There’s bound to be a third premium console at some point it’s capable of 4K, 120 Hz.
Perhaps they show a render/image of the 2023 PS5 Redesign as well as the disc drive add on?
Would CMS happen to stand for "Content Management System?" If so, is that Sitecore? I use Sitecore for my job a lot.
Cinematic mode has already been 'announced' at 1080p which is quite disappointing but hopefully better in person than how it sounds
Half life Alyx incoming!
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaase
Oooooh v excited indeedly…. February 22nd is my Christmas Day foo shoo…I expect Sony will take the opportunity at CES to announce Gran Turismo 7 VR no diggity (no doubt) 😉
The hype for PSVR2 is the only way Sony will be able to show off their new smart fridge.
I’ve been a pretty big supporter of VR. I bought 2 PSVRs, and an Oculus headset but I’m not really excited for this. It’s probably due to the games. They don’t excite me enough to purchase one day one. It really doesn’t help that there are a ton of good looking traditional games releasing next year. I may end up buying one around July.
Not to overdose on copium but
I wouldn’t be surprised if we got something Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man’s become the golden goose for creative Sony media. It probably won’t be a blowout trailer or anything, just info to appeal to investors.
But again, Copium
One word (or is it two? Or three?): GT7.
@thefourfoldroot1 do you mean blu rays? as in movies? cuz it does play them, thats how i watch movies lol
@SerJosh97 3D Blu-rays. It doesn’t support them.
@SerJosh97
3D movies. PS4 got an update to play them in the headset, PS5 hasn’t. I know, it’s weird.
ohhh the vr headset! thats why i was confused lol, i watch my movies on just my regular tv with the ps5 disc drive, i got you now lol
They have never announced anything at the CES press conferences before to my knowledge.
So I'm not even going to pay attention to that event.
@KidBoruto Just last year.

They’ve spoken about PlayStation products a lot at CES over the past few years. Doesn’t mean they will be there in a few weeks, but it does look like there is a good chance of some PSVR2 announcements.
@SoulChimera I meant in terms of actual new games being revealed, but thanks for sharing that.
@KidBoruto Yep, it's definitely a longer shot for game reveals. But with Sony's marketing as of late, they could suddenly announce a new VR game in the local newspaper. Absolute madness.
Not that I really care, I've paid in full at my local game store for my Horizon bundle already. I'm all in regardless. Haha.
@SoulChimera I meant non-VR titles. I have zero interest in the PSVR2 side of things.
@KidBoruto Ah, sorry, my bad. The rumour (or newly semi-confirmation based on their YouTube thumbnail) is that they are showing PSVR2 there. I thought you were talking about that. Apologies.
@SoulChimera It's all good, I can understand the confusion!
