Are ya ready, kids? You'd better be, because SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is just around the corner. Publisher THQ Nordic has announced the release date of this PS4 platformer, and it's closer than we were expecting. You can take a trip to Bikini Bottom on 31st January, 2023.
To recap, the game is being developed by Purple Lamp, the team that brought us SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. The Cosmic Shake builds on that success with a brand new adventure for the titular sponge and his buddies. With magical bubble soap in hand, the innocent invertebrate inadvertently turns Bikini Bottom upside down, opening dimensional portals to other realms. It's up to him and best friend Patrick (who has been turned into a balloon) to save the day.
While fans of the show will get a little more out of this, we imagine The Cosmic Shake will be a solid 3D platformer regardless. It looks like it has all the things you'd expect: simple combat, interesting traversal mechanics, and lots of vibrant underwater levels to explore.

This game looks so good!
Definitely looking forward to this!
Definitely on my list of games to play, but it’ll have to wait until after I finish One Piece Odyssey, and by the time that happens Like A Dragon Ishin will probably be out. Sandwiching it between what are personally the two biggest early 2023 games isn’t the best timing…at least for me.
Put this in my veins! This 3D platforming renaissance we seem to be in is giving me so so so much to play
Looks great, the re-release of Battle for Bikini Bottom was an unexpected delight.
Refreshing to see platformers are alive and well
Looks like a lot of fun and it also shows me what we lost over the time a finished game.
Day one buy for me, I might even pre-order it! I dunno how I'm gonna find the time to play it though, with it releasing between Forspoken and Hogwarts Legacy.
Not to mention I still haven't even played the Battle for Bikini Bottom remake yet (Rehydrated), which the newer game is supposedly a direct sequel to story/narrative wise?
Really looking forward to it but it comes at a busy time for me so I'll be holding off till I have time.
