Today, Sony released its annual PlayStation Wrap-Up feature, allowing PS5 and PS4 owners to see their personal gaming stats from 2022. There are lots of interesting bits and pieces to draw from this, and among them are the top played PS Plus games for the year. We were curious to know which PS1 classic game on the PS Plus Premium tier was played the most in 2022, and it's none other than the movie-tie in title, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue.
Of all the PS1 games on Sony's top-tier subscription, it's the Pixar platformer people are latching onto. It seems there's a lot of nostalgia among PlayStation users for this one. The game isn't half bad either — it's a surprisingly robust tie-in with lots of fun objectives.
The next most popular PS1 title was Tekken 2. Elsewhere, Mafia: Definitive Edition takes home the prize for the most played game in the classics catalogue altogether, with God of War III Remastered just behind it.
Moving to PS Plus Extra, the most played game in the entire catalogue was Stray. It comes above Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Red Dead Redemption 2, which is pretty good going. Finally, the title for most played PS Plus Essential monthly game goes to FIFA 22, followed by UFC 4 and DIRT 5.

Curious to see the extra and premium for this month here's hoping they add some good classics with trophies.
Was just thinking about replaying this game and now this article pops up, got lots of memories with this game!
LOL this was the only Premium title I think I played. Loved this game as a kid and was the main driver for my sub since my PS3 still works.
Really hoping for more PS1/2 games added next year. Busting out the old PS2 scares me.
Decent game but I'm surprised more people didn't jump into Resident Evil 1
Brilliant game, one of my ps1 favourites!
Doesnt have trophy support does it?
Haha, this was the first game I played with Premium. Loved it on the PS One and I enjoyed still when revisiting it. The camera was a bit funky but I got used to it.
So, I know a lot of people grew up with this game, but I still think this is a damning statement on the Classics catalogue. We could have so many more titles to choose from. Is Sony still trying to move PS minis? I'm sure rights are a nightmare to navigate, but if MGS, Twisted Metal, Vagrant Story, Soul Reaver, Parappa, etc where available, Premium might even be worth supporting.
I bought Toy Story 2 the day it became available. I was feeling the hype for Lightyear at the time. Replaying the game was great. Unfortunately the movie was not so pleasant.
I downloaded it but it was awful. Only played about 10 minutes. Definitely not suited to 50”+ screens. Would have been more at home on the Vita really.
That’s why I don’t get this whole backwards compatibility thing. PS1 and PS2 games are better left in the past (unless they’re being remade from the ground up).
Be interested to see how it stacked if there were some real ps1 greats on there...
Still waiting on Legends of Dragoon and Legend of Legaia before I sign up
@ItsBritneyB_tch I respect your opinion but don't agree with it at all.
PS1 games do look absolutely horrendous on 40+ inch full HD screens, never mind 4K screens.
Strangely though, PS2 titles still look quite decent but given the PS1 was designed for CRT screens and PS2 was designed for widescreen TVs, maybe it's not so odd?
Reminds me I need to get around to playing the game...never played it before in the past.
@Human_Tornado So true. Right now would be a perfect time to release the armored core games from ps1 and ps2.
