Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter is perhaps best known for iconic horror classics like The Thing and Halloween and for not being able to get the generator started in The Last of Us: Part II. He's a gamer and has played games in the Dead Space series, so it sounds like he would be the perfect pick to head up a film adaptation, right?
Well, the good news is it sounds like a Dead Space movie is in the works. The bad? Carpenter isn't attached. He was asked about the situation in an interview with Variety and noted that he was never attached to such a project but that he thinks that another director is.
Carpenter recounted a story in which he mentioned that he "would love to do a Dead Space film. That just went around, and everybody said, ‘Oh, when are you gonna do it?’ I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it."
This is why we can't have nice things. At least we have the Dead Space remake to look forward to, which launches on PS5 on 27th of January. Carpenter himself is excited about its release, noting that "there’s a new version of the Dead Space video game coming out in January, and I’m there”.
If you haven't already, check out the launch trailer for Dead Space — it's as gruesome as you might imagine. We also learned what graphical and performance options will be available at launch for PS5 players. Are you excited by the prospect of a Dead Space movie? Would you have preferred Carpenter's involvement? Let us know in the comments section below.

Based on the remake's redesign of Isaac Clarke, we can finally have that Adam Sandler space horror comedy everyone always wanted!
@Perturbator This is great news indeed. Sandler gets a lot of flack for his latest films, but if he can channel some of that magic from Grown Ups 2, then we could be in for a real treat.
Not surprise, Carpenter hasn't directed a full length movie since 2010.
It's literally the movie that would bring him out of retirement. I'd love to at the very least see what he'd want to do with it.
@sikthvash I enjoyed Uncut Gems! Haven't seen anything from him since then though.
@Perturbator I still need to watch that; I heard good things!
I love his old stuff like Wedding Singer & 50 First Dates.
@knowles2 To be fair, that movie bombed so he most likely is taking a long hiatus to re-center his focus.
