Fatal Frame is a franchise synonymous with spooky Japanese horror, with the first title in the series released on PS2 all the way back in 2001. A remaster of the fourth entry in the franchise, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (previously a Wii exclusive), is coming to PS5 and PS4 on 9th March, and it will be the first time this particular title will be available in the West.
The Fatal Frame series utilises a mechanic known as the Camera Obscura, by which players are able to fight off the supernatural entities they encounter by taking their picture, with damage determined by the angle and composition of the shot. Imagine if Pokemon Snap was inspired by Silent Hill and was definitely not meant for kids, and you will start to get the picture (pardon the pun).
Featuring improved graphics, quality of life improvements, a very fitting Photo Mode, and the inclusion of new costumes, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse looks like it will scratch that survival horror itch we all get from time to time.

I am still surprised that no one has made a game inspired by Fatal Frame or even make a game with Fatal Frame's camera mechanics. Also hyped cause I'm still in the middle of Black Water
I wasn't a fan of the last title that was released.
Maybe my memory is a little bit hazy about the first two titles but the last release had a bit too much find this location in the photo.
It was a bit needle in the haystack for me when I just struggled to remember where locations could be.
Ive heard that Mask of the Lunar is more highly regarded but after the last title I dont know if the series is for me. (Even if I have good memories of the first 2 titles........I just dont know if Im.viewing them via nostalgia lenses.)
Can't wait. Not happy that I'll need to import a Asia English copy to get it physically tho
Only played the original on Xbox when it was called Project Zero.
The thought of The Man With Long Arms still makes me shudder.
I'm really looking forward to picking up physical copies for Switch & PS5, especially after enjoying Maiden of Black Water so much! I have Fatal Frame 1 & 2 for OG Xbox, now I just need Fatal Frame 3.
Low-key one of the releases I'm most excited for this year. I NEVER thought we were going to get a domestic release of Fatal Frame 4. When you think of games likely to make the jump to Western shores, you don't typically picture Japan-only Wii games belonging to a series that has historically struggled to sell well.
@Futureshark The series has always been called Project Zero in Europe, and Fatal Frame in the U.S. I believe European trailers actually still refer to this as "Project Zero."
@Nepp67 DreadOut is the closest we've come to a proper Fatal Frame clone. It's an Indonesian PC exclusive where you snap spirits with your cell phone camera.
@Ralizah @jrt87 I do remember that cause I watched a playthrough from Pewdiepie years ago and yeah it was creepy as hell, wasn't there a sequel?
@Nepp67 @Ralizah
There's also Madison, which uses a camera apparently? Haven't played it yet but it got my attention as I freaking love Fatal Frame. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MADiSON_(video_game)
@DTfeartheBEARD Digital only game in the USA sadly.
@KidBoruto, I see physical copies available for pre-order on Play-Asia for Switch & PS4. I'll just import if I have to. Like I did with Maiden of Black Water.
@DTfeartheBEARD Right, there's always importing from Play-Asia.
I'm okay with just waiting for a dirt cheap sale on digital version myself.
