NPD sales data has declared Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the best-selling game of 2022 across the USA, with Elden Ring taking second place and Madden NFL 23 claiming third. PS5, PS4 exclusive God of War Ragnarok was the fourth best-selling title in the USA, and Horizon Forbidden West also made it into the top 10 in eighth. However, God of War Ragnarok jumps up to second and Gran Turismo 7 is named the eighth best-selling PS5, PS4 title of 2022 in the USA. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales even sneaks in at number 10.

Elden Ring done real well fair play… might not have been able to take the top spot but got both #2 and #4 (somehow 😉).
Edit. I see the article has been edited, which really effects my post 😡!
It's shocking just how big COD is each and every year. Especially when people can simply play Warzone.
Also congrats to Elden Ring. That game is not aimed at casual audiences at all and it still sold like hot cakes.
Surprising MLB the Show makes rhe list despite being available on Game Pass
Nuts that GoW was 4th considering it came out in November
@InternetUser most of the sales came from casual gamers though
@Nalodart I wouldn't be surprised if Ragnarok has sold over 10 million by now.
I own 14 of them too…
@InternetUser people will buy anything as long as it's perceived a "hot" item/ if there is enough hype surrounding it.
The importance of Call of Duty to PlayStation is definitely the reason the Activision-Blizzard cannot happen. I am not a Call of Duty fan, but that passive income helps fund the games I do care about.
God of war ragnarok and elden ring is still doing good.thats good to hear.2 instant classic games.word up son
I would like to point out how one sided the PlayStation exclusives are in favor of PS5 if you look at the PSN top downloads for the year. More proof how cross gen was a waste of time.
Also it seems like PlayStation carried Crisis Core.

@TheCollector316 oh good lord. The passive income helps fund the games you care about? Really? Brainwashed much?
@cburg
Do you not know how money works? If PlayStation spends $0 developing Call of Duty and earns $X million passively on their cut of the sales, that's $X million they got "for free" (minus marketing costs) they can spend making other games or otherwise invest in their products and services.
@TheCollector316 a lot of call of Duty money funds bonuses and salaries for big wigs at PS. Hence they are fighting for it so hard. They won’t lose the game tho, it will just be under MS much like Minecraft is. Staying multi platform. Too much money at stake not to. Sony will be just fine for years and years to come. However i will admit COD on Gamepass could flip some sales in North America. That wouldn’t sure me. But otherwise that game will stay the same, minus Sony won’t have timed deals and marketing rights to it.
It should be noted that NPD is based on $ Sales, not units, and that hardware pack-in games are counted towards hardware revenue and not for the game. So HFW and GOW:Ragnarok actually miss out on a couple million unit sales each this way.
