PS5 has now surpassed 30 million units sold through to consumers, after enjoying its most successful month since launch in December 2022, according to boss Jim Ryan. The milestone was announced during Sony’s CES 2023 press conference, and improves upon the 20 million units milestone the firm announced on 31st May, 2022.
Ryan took a moment to acknowledge the “unprecedented” manufacturing issues the organisation had faced since launch, but promised that PS5 stock is now becoming more readily available, and he suggested that everyone who wants to buy a console should be able to do so in 2023. There was no word of the system’s rumoured hardware revision, but it’s likely that will be revealed later in the year.

30 mill... that's crazy all things considered. Good stuff.
What was the PS4 at now?
@Jaz007 About 35 million.
30 million Ps5 sold compare to estimated 18-20 million Xbox series x/s so PlayStation already have a 10 million plus lead over the Xbox.
In before "and 29 million are in the hands of scalpers" comment.... Or have we moved past that now? Anyway, it feels like this gen is finally starting since PS4 support is finally being dropped and these figures should further encourage that.
Yeah everytime I go to my local Wal-Mart I see both PS5s and Xbox Series X available. They aren't that hard to find anymore.
Is the vanilla PS5 bundle (no game attached) still available ?
I just want one that will fit under my TV without having to replace the whole unit.
Well, I still didn't buy one since I'm waiting for the pro. It looks like it ain't happening as this gen will end in 2027. Let's see after they announce the revised model
@Anti-Matter Yes, mine came this week direct from Sony's store as the vanilla version.
Only other place I've seen it recently is Shop To?
@Anti-Matter Yes, and it still makes up the majority of sales actually. In the week GoW:Ragnarok was released the bundle only accounted for something like 38% of console sales that week. With some of the earlier bundles probably still making up a small percentage, that still leaves a very large amount of bundles-less consoles.
It’s basically never in stock anywhere though. I think it sells out almost instantly still, and also a lot are probably sold directly from Sony.
The digital version is even harder to find right now.
@4kgk2 both consoles are doing good though. I don’t really care about console Wars shenanigans, that was always between the companies and not the players.
@Jireland92 I didn’t say both consoles weren’t doing well. I just gave out info about both consoles sales, I don’t understand why you Xbox fanboys from pure xbox keep coming here to white knight for your favorite piece of plastic.
@4kgk2 you knew what you were implying when you wrote it you strange person. I own both so I don’t care who’s sold more. That’s a competition between the companies not the players. Weird thing to write
@DNortonX why do you sound so hurt and bothered if you don’t care about console sales. Like I said before I was just giving out the information for people who don’t know the info. You pure Xbox guys are the strange ones that are coming to a primarily PlayStation site just to defend xbox.
seen it regularly available for last 6 weeks or so in UK.
its about time
Still have yet to see any in stores but i actually did finally aquire one through an App called hotstock! It was suggested to me by one of this sites users. I downloaded it a week before Christmas and i got an alert for an online store selling them and i jumped on it! I now know the joys of playing Astros playroom and I'm currently working my way through the Demons souls remake!
Cool even on ebay the ps5 price is reduced by a lot now.so its good that the stock is gonna be easier to find.word up son
This is good. Sony lost a huge number of sales to people just plumping for the series X or even series S, because MS had the financial clout to get priority semi conductor stock. Hopefully with both now readily available Sony can do better numbers, because it really is required for them to stay profitable and so the market to remain competitive for the benefit of consumers.
The likes of the controller, PSVR2, and other top tier cutting edge features should help Sony for anyone looking for true next gen gaming, but MS simply focusing on the subsidised gaming model will obviously do well in these times. Not everyone can justify spending on cutting edge VR or top tier exclusive games in these economic conditions and that will continue to have an impact on Sony when there is a clear lower cost semi-alternative.
@thefourfoldroot1 I don’t think Sony lost many sales to Xbox because the ps5 has been outsolding the Xbox series s/x every week for months in the uk and us. I think the demand for ps5 is way higher than ps4 Sony need to be worry more about catch up to ps4 sales in this same time period.
@4kgk2 I can say that I got a family member an Xbox because there were no PS5's available. I wonder how many people ended up doing that, so I think @thefourfoldroot1 is correct in saying that
@theMEGAniggle you one person though if Xbox took a lot of PlayStation market share like you said ps5 wouldn’t have 10 million+ gap In consoles sales. I get it some people here want to believe xbox is more competitive this gen but the numbers saying otherwise. I’m not saying xbox isn’t doing well for itself but compare to PlayStation it still way behind when it comes to console sales.
@4kgk2 I think you're missing the point. MS taking some Market Share means that the sales are higher than they would have been. That 10 million+ gap may have been a 15 million gap if Sony didn't have issues with stock.
The PS5 was literally impossible to buy for 1.5+ years unless you got from a scalper or pre-ordered or just got lucky like I and many others did. Sony would have lost out on so may sales to Xbox due to that, as Series X and especially Series S were so readily available. It isn't that far fetched because it is the truth
@4kgk2 PS4 outsold Xbox 2:1. This gen so far is 1.5:1. So yea, Xbox is more competitive, which is mind blowing when they didn’t release a single exclusive in 2022….
@FatalBubbles ok xbox little bit more competitive because stock shortage but once games like final fantasy 16 and spider man 2 come out the sales gap will be back 2 to 1 in PlayStation favor again so it won’t matter.
Good to see consoles be available to gamers. Hope everyone that wants to get a console of any brand has better chances in 2023, the more consoles sold for all 3 the better. Not to mention i would love to see the PS4 and Xbox One be phased out of development ASAP. Ready to see games built on these consoles specs. Good news all the way around.
@4kgk2 It’s your story man, you tell it how you want.
@FatalBubbles it’s not a story spider man 2 a lone will move sh*t ton of consoles.
@4kgk2 GoW says hello. I don’t even know the point of what you’re going for? You just bragging that Sony has sold more PS5s or….
@FatalBubbles how do you think ps5 got the 10 million+ gap from gow Ragnarok and spider man 2 will make that gap 15 million+.
@4kgk2 Again, what is your point? Just trashing Xbox?
@FatalBubbles I’m just telling you what’s gonna happen when spider man 2 come out I didn’t trash xbox. It’s funny telling people ps5 gonna sell more than Xbox is trashing xbox now lol 😂.
@4kgk2 Your very first comment was only about how many more sales PS5 has. We can pretend it was just an innocent comment if you want. Other commenters got the same vibe from you though.
@FatalBubbles it was innocent I wasn’t trash xbox I was just giving out sales information some of your guys are just hurt.
@4kgk2 Hurt by what? I’m enjoying my PS5 as I type this. 😃
@FatalBubbles I would be enjoy a xbox if it had games I wanted to play, I’m playing on ps5 only until that happens .
@4kgk2 Cool man.
@4kgk2 im not white knighting for anything. Sheesh, what in the world was that for.
@RadioHedgeFund
Just buy a separate desk or bookcase and put it on top of it.
This is the first generation of a Playstation I haven't bought it right away or nearly right away. A lot of it has been because there is no stock here. Now for the first time I think I will wait for a pro version, which I've never had because I usually have the launch model when its released. Will have to wait and see how long my PS4 lasts, it struggles sometimes lately.
@Arckadius This is why I ultimately decided to buy a PS5 in January 2021.
My limited edition Spider-Man PS4 Pro was starting to croak on me, and I no longer had my original PS4 Pro or Slim anymore.
Honestly best choice I could have ever made, besides having to buy it thru a scalper at the time (I was hazing zero luck with the random online retail/website drops).
Yes it's true we don't have that many legit PS5 exclusives/system sellers yet, but between the multiplatform games, remasters/remakes, and PS4 game boosts it more than makes up for it's shortcomings in my opinion.
@Jireland92 honestly made no sense what they were saying.
It is clear as day and everyone can see it, PS5 being far more unavailable than Series X & S made many buy Xboxes. You can see it in the sales
@4kgk2 You seem to be white knighting hard for Sony while accusing others of white knighting. Who honestly cares what platform sold more apart from console war children?
If you really want to go there, Nintendo Switch is outselling both Xbox Series and PS5 still. It has already surpassed sales of PS4 too despite existing for a shorter time.
Clearly Nintendo is the winner. One Mario game alone normally ships more copies than several PlayStation or Xbox exclusives and their entire franchises. Just Mario Kart 8 alone has outsold the entire God of War, Halo, Gears of War and Uncharted franchises put together lol.
@IronTruth you Xbox dudes love to always use Nintendo success to deflect. Everybody knows Nintendo cater to a different gaming audience from PlayStation and Xbox so you really can’t compare it to them two. people compare xbox and PlayStation to each other because it’s mostly the same gaming audience.
