Backbeat looks like an interesting combination of genres. Developed by indie studio Ichigoichie, this groovy game will be throwing some shapes on PS5 and PS4 later this year, but you can check it out right now with a free playable demo.
So, what is this game? It's a strategy/puzzle game with a musical slant. Set in 1995 America, you control four characters, each of whom move differently throughout the course of a stage. You only have a set number of turns to reach the goal, but you can rewind time as much as you want to get everything right. It's all tuned to a groovy 90s-style soundtrack, with everything moving to the music.
There's a bit more info on the PS Blog, where the developer talks about all the interactive musical cues, utilising the DualSense controller, and more.

I'm hooked from the trailer presentation alone. Will try the demo!
Very interesting idea for a game. I'm not into them and while I get what their going for I do find these games if I do come across them to be just awkward. The pacing of the moves and timing especially always look like I'm not going to get them right either because it's the way I interpret how to do it, the game wants me to do it a different way and if going for a par or whatever other way to put it besides just the way the structure of it is while fine, it's just not worth the time to line them up par or even just freely getting things done whether for enemies or objects or whatever. Cool game though but pass.
