The colourful SteamWorld franchise will be plumbing new depths in the just-announced SteamWorld Build, a city builder that tasks you to settle above and below ground in a somewhat novel twist. It's a little bit Sim City, and a lot bit Dungeon Keeper or Evil Genius, and it is absolutely something we will be keeping an eye on when it launches later in 2023 on PS5 and PS4.
The SteamWorld franchise has proven to be one of the more adaptable IPs in recent memory, spawning excellent side-scrolling games in the form of SteamWorld Dig and its sequel, Steamworld Dig 2, before branching out into the criminally underrated SteamWorld Heist, a turn-based tactical shooter. There is even a third-person cooperative game in the works, in the form of SteamWorld Headhunter, to look forward to.
What do you think of SteamWorld Build? Are you a fan of the previous SteamWorld games? Keep digging until you hit the comments section down below.

Not a fan of Sims so personally disappointed. They do adventure games so well was hoping for something more like dig. Hope it does well and I'm sure it will be good.
I could be interested as long as there's some kind of a narrative and it can be "beat". I generally shy away from open-ended stuff.
This is so up my alley. Looks like a town building sim mixed with a dungeons/dungeon master sim. The graphics are pretty great for a steam world entry.
I really liked Steamworld Dig and Evil Genius was also very enjoyable so I’m all in on this!
So a World Builder upstairs and a mining tower defense game downstairs. But are they going to make steamworld dig three?
I am in I love it. Played all the steam world games. This is different but still looks cool.
I've loved all their games so far, but city-building games are a no-go for me. Hoping Headhunter will be more my style.
Like the series but not a fan of this new direction. Looks pretty boring tbh.
I like the Steamworld games and this could be great, but only if the UI is okay on console; hopefully they can as good a job as Rimworld managed.
I was really hoping for a Steamworld Quest PS4/5 announcement. This has a nice look, but I don't have the patience for sims.
