XCOM 2

Jake Solomon, creative director of the rebooted XCOM franchise and the recently released Marvel's Midnight Suns, has admitted something that we all knew in our hearts but still stings regardless: the legendary strategy game developer is not currently working on a new XCOM game.

Speaking to VGC, Solomon was asked if there were any plans to continue the series, with the last mainline entry in the franchise being 2016's excellent XCOM 2. Soloman replied, "of course, you can ask (laughs), you can join your voice to the chorus ringing out from the hills. I personally have no information on that right now and I say that because, truly, yesterday I was working on Morbius’ abbey outfits and recolours, so I am not working on it. I don’t have any secret agenda, I don’t know anything about XCOM at this point.”

A PC-only spin-off called XCOM: Chimera Squad was released in 2020, and since then, Soloman and the team at Firaxis have had their hands full crafting Marvel's Midnight Suns, which shares some elements of the XCOM series' tactical game design. Marvel's Midnight Suns will be supported with DLC for the foreseeable future, the first of which (released on 26th January) added Deadpool to the game as a playable character.

Are you as hungry as we are to see a new XCOM game on console? Or has Midnight Suns successfully captured your attention in the meantime? Miss a crucial shot in the comments section below.
