Sony’s ongoing global marketing campaign – which is designed to celebrate the system’s renewed availability – has arrived in Dubai, where a life-sized PS5 is being installed. Alright, so maybe this is a few feet bigger than the actual new-gen console, but we couldn’t resist the gag.
We’re not sure whether it’s post-processing special effects or an insane light show, but the console appears to be summoning some kind of portal, which all plays into the platform holder’s latest ad campaign. Either way, it’s cool enough to go viral, which is effectively the point.
The firm recently dropped Kratos’ Leviathan Axe from God of War Ragnarok next to London’s Southbank, and we suspect there’ll be many more promotional events like this right around the world over the coming days.

Installing the PS5 for the first time definitely felt like that lol
Okay it honestly feels like we’re in for a big showcase soon.
Woah, is that the fabled PS5Slim… or do my eyes deceive me!?!?
@Fight_Teza_Fight let's hope so
I think advertising like this is very cool.
There’s a giant one in Rome too.
@Fight_Teza_Fight People have been saying that for a year and we’re still waiting.
I honestly don’t think so, we may get a State of Play soon but I don’t think we’ll see a showcase until late 2023 if it happens at all.
Why is the ps5 ejaculating energy into outer space?
Wtf… what was that light beam?
Just been down. Its just a huge PS5 promotional stand with the PS5 next to it. It’s a lot smaller in real life. Maybe 20 foot. Got about 15-20 PS5 stations (it’s a beach so I’m sure these will be scrap by the end of the day. Haha). A big Dual Sense controller, and the same Live from PS5 van (Same as the one in London) and an information stand.
@danzoEX to me, that looks like something someone has added afterwards, maybe even fan made as it looks a bit rushed and cheap. The lights on the PS5 are real. They were blue when I was there.
@danzoEX adobe after effects.
@IOI @Americansamurai1 @Fight_Teza_Fight Yeah as much as I'd love a surprise February PS Direct...I suspect the ongoing Activision drama will prevent such a thing until Late 2023 sadly.
However I would love to be proven wrong of course! Fingers crossed that's the case.
@KidBoruto Why everyone keeps repeating this?
The Activision drama has nothing to do with the announcements from any company, it hasn’t stopped Sony for doing multiple States of Play, it hasn’t stopped Microsoft from having a big showcase in June and the Direct a week ago, and it hasn’t stop Activision from making announcements and market CoD like crazy…
If Sony wanted to do a showcase they’d have done it already, there’s no point in withholding information as regulators already know everything (for instance they already knew about Hi-Fi Rush’s existence and exclusivity).
My guess is that there hasn’t been a showcase because there’s not much first-party stuff upcoming soon, so far we only have Spider-Man 2, Horizon expansion and VR titles coming from PS Studios (maybe with TLOU multiplayer thrown in there), and since Sony no longer announces games several years in advance they don’t see the point of doing a major showcase right now as most announcements would be for 2024 games and beyond.
OMG just think of the screwdriver needed for that thing!!
@IndoorEnthusiast Doesn't yours? 🤔
Wouldn’t an “actual size” PS5 be the size of my PS5?
Sony is a god when it comes to marketing campaigns. First the ax from GoW in London, Now the ps5 in Dubai. I'm curious what else will come.
Ah, nothing like an Arab country to do something as extravagant and pointless such as this.
The giant replica of the Leviathan Axe from the God of War games in London seems pretty cool, I haven't seen it though.
That looks soooo cool!
Love all the playstation ad campaigns but if you were bringing out a new piece of hardware in a few weeks wouldn't you be trying to sell it to people?Sonys lack of interest in psvr2 baffles me as it must have cost a fortune in r&d,its almost like they want it to fail?
This is a pretty fun marketing push I like it. I want to see more things put up. A bit disappointing not seeing any horizon in the forbidden West (San Francisco) or the burning shores (Hollywood). But maybe they'll do it closer to the launch
I wish my PS5 was really that big!
Kind of interesting they'd promote it with a giant console replica right before, if the rumors are true, replacing that design with a different one.
@ROTTIEMAN16
See, the thing is that you need a ps5 first to even think about getting a psvr 2.
And now that ps5s are more widely available they are pushing people to buy them so that there are more eligible people for the psvr 2.
@Infern0 they've sold 30 million ps5 so if even 5% of ps5 owners(% of ps4 owners with psvr1) buy a psvr2 that will be 1.5 million sold on current numbers.That is more than worth an advertising campaign or looking like your bothered!
@IOI Then we might finally get a legit showcase in September 2023? For 2024 games.
Well, "actual size" would probably be a bit less noticeable
@Grimwood oh so you were a fan of Dubai, but then you broke your rule and went too many times and that ruined the experience??
@Grimwood
That's a weird flex
@NeThZOR RACIST ?
