Square Enix has released the all-important update for Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition just as quickly as it confirmed it following almost a year of silence: it's available now on PS4. You're looking for version number 1.0.1.0; the patch notes are as follows:
- Framerate improvements
- Changes to the growth system for Pip
- Other minor bug fixes
Reports from users on Reddit playing the JRPG on PS5 via backwards compatibility suggest the frame rate is now fixed, with battles running at 60 frames-per-second and adventuring out in the field hitting a 30fps cap. Therefore, while you may still want to play Chrono Trigger first, it sounds like this PS4 remaster is finally worth playing. It's £15.99/$19.99 on the PS Store, but has never gone on sale. Since it's now in a good place, though, Square Enix could hand it a discount in the near future.
Will you give Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition another go now it's been fixed? Let us know in the comments below.

They should really put Chrono Trigger on PS+ Premium
Took ‘em long enough.
Time to reinstall it on Switch.
Sometimes you wonder how and why official emulators or ports perform worse and have less features than homebrew alternatives...
Nice, this has been in my backlog since launch.
I’ll probably start it after I’m done with Octopath II.
Awesome Square Enix. Now Bandai Namco, looking at you, do the same for Tales of Symphonia Remastered.
@belmont Maximum profit with next to no effort.
@Flaming_Kaiser thing is it must bite them though. Because I'd have bought it for instance but with this effort I won't
nice to see. now about those AI upscaled backgrounds...
@Voltan I'd definitely be more likely to give the game a try if they did.
@Andy22385 I would have bought a physical release if it ran good but nah this wont do this isnt the first remake / remaster they messed up. If you look at Final Fantasy 10 on PS4 that one was handled with so much care I loved it.
