Techland has announced that the Dying Light franchise has moved an impressive 30 million units franchise-wide. The news comes on the first anniversary of the studio's most recent title, the post-apocalyptic survival game Dying Light 2, and details of the content to come in Year 2 have been revealed.
In the short term, changes are coming to the game's ragdoll and body physics in response to player feedback, which should hopefully make combat feel slightly more weighty. In addition, the night will become darker and even more full of terrors; details are scant on that last part, but we would imagine that means the Volatiles might be getting a bit of a buff, too.
Later in the year, players can expect an overhaul to Dying Light 2's vaunted parkour system and a revamp of core combat mechanics to keep things fresh. Finally, Techland teased the next piece of story DLC, hinting that this venture could have us running into some familiar faces from the first game, which is always fun.
Dying Light 2 will be supported for the next four years, which seemed like an ambitious plan when it was announced. But with sales figures like those, this level of support must be more than worth Techland's while.
Are you looking forward to the content coming in Year 2? What are your feelings on the state of the game as it is now? Let us know in the comments section below.

I might invest my time in this 🤔
unfortunately for the developers ,games like this where they improve it alot over time and add lots of single player dlc are (imho) much better played when finaly 'finished' being made so unless a complete edition gets released i will end up getting the game down the line much reduced or second hand.
I wonder how many DL2 sold itself? DL1 was 20 million as of April 2022 but then they did a free DLC release that may have led to more sales.
Still I love the Techland are trying a different pro-consumer business model that seems to show long tail sales. Albeit those long tail sales are usually heavily discounted (a bit like CDPR's one week on, one week off £4.99 for Witcher 3).
I bought both W3 and DL1 twice as a result, once physically at launch and once digitally years later. Kudos.
I was looking forward to DL2 so much and it was the biggest disappointment. The first game was better in every way.
Fair play good numbers. Loved the first one, and was looking forward to the 2nd when i fonally got it played around an hour or two and just couldnt get into it at all it was dissapointing to say the least.
The game was disappointing and very buggy at launch. I still prefer Dying Light 1. But it's been a while, so maybe I'll jump back into some co-op on Series X and finally finish the campaign at least...
Such a disappointment. The first game is so much better.
DL1 locations are so much better. More hidden areas, caves etc
The locations in DL2 are boring. Buildings. That's it.
@ItsBritneyB_tch Totally agree with this.
@God_of_War_ I would agree and some of those achievements are just not warranted. There is a reason not too many people have optimized the game fully. It's very glitchy and used to crash on PS4 daily. I think DL was better, it was a new franchise so the devs were more hungrier and set out to prove something. The "arena" DLC is a little scant in BLOODY TIES. Even after experiencing the full game, I really don't feel a need to go back at this point. I wish they would focus more on story driven DLC than combat arena dlc, they can accomplish that if they want to, in the main campaign..
@themightyant so far I've bought TW3 3 times - once on switch (I didn't have a PS4/Xbox or a remotely capable PC at the time, so it was my only option), which I then sold later for about £30 (crazy!) to buy it for PS4 as soon as I had a PS5 pre-ordered (it was about £10 for GOTY at that point), and then I've since bought it on GOG now that I have a decent PC. I keep being tempted to buy it on Steam too, just so it can live with the vast majority of my PC games
Interesting, in that case I will wait for the complete edition to release. A bit like how I am holding off on fully playing Cyberpunk until the next update comes out that fixes police etc.
Always best to wait for a deep sale and let early adopters beta-test the games for you.
By the time I finally picked up No Man's Sky, for example, it was a damn fine game.
@danlk1ng That's the bonus of Switch physical titles, sometimes expensive upfront but they often hold their value.
Very similar to my Skyrim experience. X360, Switch, bought the XSX upgrade, sold the Switch version for almost what I paid for it and then got it on PC/Steam Deck instead.
@Perturbator depends on the game IMO. I don't remotely regret buying Elden Ring at launch and having the sense of communal experience as we all discovered the game together (and to be clear, I very, very rarely buy games at less than a 50% discount, let alone at launch). I can't imagine the Dying Light 2 launch experience being quite the same though
The setting was terrible for this game. If it was bigger and outside of a ‘residential complex’, I’d be more inclined to return but I’ve seen most of what was to offer. I did actually enjoy the game though and think it gets a lot of unwarranted criticism to be fair (aside from setting).
Played the first game played a lot solo then tried multiplayer which corrupted the solo progress so wouldn't play either game again
The 1st game for me was one of the best games last gen. Very underrated. But the 2nd game felt like a step back, I think the world worked better in dying light as it wasn’t as big at the map in dying light 2. But great that techland support there games for so long afterwards. The following dlc for dying light was great
Thank you Techland for all the crazy zombie killing fun I have had with multiple replays of DL1 and all the dlc.
DL2 is on my play after I upgrade to current gen list. I want it 60 fps.
@YeoSprings Same plan myself with both games! I have yet to even install Cyberpunk.
I haven't gotten far into the game yet but I feel like now I'm gonna hold off for another year. Loved the first one. Played it on the switch. Excellent port.
