PixelJunk is plotting a return to PlayStation later this year, with Q-Games' PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe punching its way to PS5 and PS4.
Trying to pin a genre on this one is a little tricky, but it's basically a 2D side-scrolling brawler... but you also have to gather the broken remains of your enemies and dump them into the back of a truck to score points.
Here's how the developer describes it: "It’s a beat ‘em up that’s also a clean ‘em up, with a focus on cleaning up the streets of Junktown. Both literally, by stacking trash, and figuratively, by wiping out waves of enemy robots. Trash means cash on these streets, and your bounty increases with the more items (and scrapped enemies) you throw into the back of your garbage truck."
It looks like it could be a lot of fun, especially with friends. The game will support both local and online co-op, and it even has cross-play functionality, which is always a plus. Meanwhile, if you want to play on your own, you can enlist the help of AI-driven pals.

I'll be honest - if this was from anyone but PixelJunk, I'd say I think I've seen enough and pass on this unless it showed up for free on Plus some day.
Since it's from PixelJunk, I'll take a closer look and watch for the reviews. There's probably a lot more fun and complexity there than what you see in the trailer. We'll see.
A beat-em-up with dump truck nearby. As a genre, I’m calling it a “slap and scrap.”
@jgrangervikings1 Damn, that's pretty good.
Aw yeah, glad PixelJunk is coming back home! It was a PlayStation staple of the early PSN days. Hope we get Eden 2 as well at some point.
