Motive's PS5 Dead Space remake has been out for a week now, and we thought it was pretty darn good. The creator of the original Dead Space, Glen Schofield, thinks so too and has congratulated the development team on their efforts.
Replying to a post on LinkedIn (thanks VGC) by his daughter, Nicole, Schofield thanked everyone involved in both the original and the remake, stating that "to all of you who worked on the original, thank you for your contributions to an amazing game, it has withstood the test of time. And to Motive, thank you for your care in remaking the game faithfully. Congratulations."
Schofield was the director of the recently released The Callisto Protocol, which inevitably drew comparisons with both the original and remade Dead Space, for better or worse. So far, The Callisto Protocol has reportedly failed to meet sales expectations. It was also assisted in development by Sony, specifically with its cinematic performance capture.
Where do you stand on the great Dead Space remake vs The Callisto Protocol question, do you prefer one to the other? What do you think of Schofield's magnanimous words? Let us know in the comments section below.

Dead space was better callisto was a new game rather than a remake.
im glad both were made
by the looks of it neither have sold well so i think that will be the end for both IP
I have both games, but I haven’t played either of them as I decided to wait until the inevitable patches were implemented to give me the best possible experience! Reading into both games a little, I feel that I am going to enjoy Dead Space the most, but I am really looking forward to seeing what the Callisto Protocol has to offer! I also expect both games to have the sequel treatment in the future, and I do think the 2nd Callisto will be a lot better than the first.
Just finished up DS myself and it’s still brilliant; the remake hasn’t taken away any of its shine. I somewhat enjoyed my time with CP but its linear structure, lack of length (took me 6hrs to finish, DS 13hrs) and nabbing the Plat in one play through meant that it didn’t give any in incentive to return to it.
I’m probably not alone in saying that I REALLY, would like a DS 2 remake please
Callisto is gonna be bargain bin unfortunately, but Dead Space, as good as it is, is gonna be on price drop.
I hope they do DS2 as well. That game is bonkers.
Perfect comparison to Alien/ Aliens and Terminator/ Terminator 2
I found Callisto Protocol way too hard and this was on easy mode with dodge assist?!? I loved the DS remake and like others I’d love a DS2 remake.
Callisto Protocol is a fun but flawed game. Combat is fun, but needs work. The environment and level design sucks, imo…
And… Dead Space Remake is 💯% amazing. Combat feels SO good, and the updated graphics and gameplay are phenomenal. A must play!
@Blade_Runner Yea the bad combat/dodge made me go easy more also. And gave up on last boss got too annoying
In a follow up message, Phil Spencer thanked Glen Schofield for thanking Motive.
I've only played an hour of Dead Space, had me right on edge, good stuff!
Very classy of him. I'd imagine it's got to be a bit hard to see his original work remade without his involvement and plus the fact his new game sounds like it wasn't a train wreck but could have been better. I haven't played either yet but eventually I will.
@JaaackTommyyy if it doesnt sell they wont make another one
I am definitely picking up Callisto Protocol at some point. For me Dead Space like the phenomenal BioShock is a classic especially at the time, and like he said stood the test of time. BioShock like DS should have been remade for the PS5 instead of a remaster, I love DS and definitely picking up DS soon too
I love them both and always will!
I absolutely loved CP and I really hope they make a sequel after that cliffhanger ending. They left a bunch of plotlines open too and I want to see what they do with them. That being said, DS combat is so smooth and fun. This game is just too good to really do a comparison.
Does anyone remember the special colored suits you would get if you owned a PS or Xbox addition? I missed those its as my go-to suit.
@pharos_haven didn't the PS3 version have the Obsidian suit? The deluxe edition of the remake has an incredibly similar suit called the Sancitified Suit.
I like how all the reviews just conveniently leave out all the bugs and glitches in the remake. I've had the game crash on me multiple times, fail to load on boot up, forcing me to close the game manually from the PS home screen. I've even had a weird camera bug where the camera got stuck on the save station but I could still move Isac around but the camera wouldn't follow him. Between the negative critical reception of Callisto and the overwhelmingly postive reception of Dead Space I am convinced EA paid off the vast majority of outlets
@Tchunga Someone's upset their favorite game didn't do well. It wasn't just the bugs people were upset about with Callisto, it was also the gameplay. Dead Space Remake has recieved positive reception cause of how faithful it was to the original and also expanding upon it and improving where it was needed like the asteroid section. Does Dead Space have bugs? Yes it does, not to the level of Callisto where it was completely unplayable for PC players where it kept stuttering at every turn.
@Nepp67 Call it what you want I just don't get why Dead Space gets a pass when other games clearly don't. It's not even just Callisto, Days Gone got slammed for being buggy as well among many others. Yet Dead Space is one of the buggiest AAA releases I've played in years and somehow it has an 89 on Metacritic. Sorry if I can't help but find that somewhat humorus. But honestly the Dead Space Remake is almost unanimously loved, I wouldn't let the words of a single naysayer bother you too much.
@JaaackTommyyy EA lost money on every dead space game they made. dead space sold 2m dead sapce 2 sold 4m dead space 3 sold 1m.
The Dead space remake sold less than half what callissto protocol did
Classic game design never ages, couldn't really mess up something so brilliant in the first place. Regards to Calisto, brilliant game in my opinion. Gets straight to the point not just aimlessly wondering around breaking the flow. Being compared to DS does my head in. They are both different games and both great.
I was very satisfied with Dead Space, would like to see a sequel remade also.
I am going to try and get the plat.
@Zaiyan I think so? I just remember it being Black with blue lighting and the xbox was black with green lighting.
@Tchunga Cause It is absolutely not one of the buggiest. In fact it is one of the least buggiest AAA titles out there. I can confirm that for myself since I finished it.
@Nepp67 You can confirm it's not one of the buggiest AAA games that I'VE played? How could you possibly know that?
