Publisher Take-Two has just posted its quarterly financials, and would you believe it, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still selling. The open world title is over four years old now, and while it doesn't quite compare to the frankly obscene sales numbers of Grand Theft Auto V, it recently managed to break through a ridiculous 50 million copies sold. It goes without saying, but that's a figure most games could barely even dream of reaching.
It's a number that puts Red Dead Redemption 2 up there amongst some of the best-selling video games of all time — but it's still not enough to warrant a PS5 update, apparently. Indeed, fans have been requesting a current-gen patch for ages, but here we are in 2023 and the PS4 title is still capped at 30 frames-per-second. It's a real shame when you consider the sheer popularity of the release.

I'd play it again in a heartbeat if we got a ps5 patch or upgrade
It's a finished game it's never getting a patch. Rockstar don't really make games anymore only 2 in 10 years they are more of an online company which is fine & I don't think we will see gta 6 for another 6 or 7 years considering it's not even been announced! I just want them to concrete on gta online. The next game should be online only as the story takes up way to many resources
@nedbvai
Then watch GTA sales fall dramatically, it has a large SP following too.
GTA online is actually the reason that we don't get more out of R* because people spend half their wages on pointless sharkcards.
We never got a Pro or One X upgrade for GTAV and they sold the "next gen" higher settings patch for that, so sadly I'm not surprised and it's a shame as this is one game I feel benefits hugely from it to make it more responsive
I'm not too bothered since I think the game is still a technical marvel, I'm just surprised that a game that has a strong case for GOAT status was simply abandoned by its devs like this. It's not even that old.
Rockstar (Take Two) used to be more about great games. They can’t be be bothered to remaster old games properly for new consoles. All they are interested in is making GTA money and nothing else. Yes, it is important to make money but do smaller things like a RDR2 PS5 patch. Small things like that do matter to gamers.
I feel R* and fans want different things out of this.
All most fans want is a 60fps patch (it already ran at native 4K on Xbox One X, and checkerboard 4K on PS4 Pro).
I think R* ideally wants to resell us the game. But to do that would require a lot of work, which they are willing to put in right now as it's all steam ahead on GTA6.
Just give us a 60fps patch you cowards
I'd happily pay full price again for a current gen release.
Which makes me a fool and part of the problem, I know.
All I can say in my defense is that RDR2 is one of my all time favourites.
Just a sad old Cockney Cowboy!
Doesn't bother me 30fps ,not on a game like this that's generally alot slower anyway ,of course 60 fps update would be great for gamers who want 60fps but for me not an issue ,amazing game so far and I'm still early on in rdr2 so along way to go for me to finish it
I jumped back into Red Dead Online yesterday and it's still a beautiful looking game. I can only imagine how good it would look with a current gen version.
I would pay for an upgrade honestly. Just give us 60fps patch omg.
Rockstar makes sprawling titles that connect with vast audiences and sell eye watering numbers of copies, collecting amounts of money that make some countries jealous.
And they simultaneously do not give a single flying ***** about the fans they sell those games to.
Once they have your money they either try to get more of it, or you can ***** right off.
Greedstar- anti customers pro greed
Would love a native ps5 version but they threw that out the window around the time they left Red Dead Online to die
Yes.
We need a combined Red Dead 1&2 remaster on current gen consoles, with RDR 1 running in the sequel's map. Makes so much sense.
@SolaceCreed disagree the old games had a large single player following I don't think people are as bothered in 2023 I work with many young people who play gta online & they have never touched the single player not once. It's a small minority & the next game should just be online
Would happily pay for a PS5 version fwiw. Absolute waste that it has nothing. Then again the original Red Dead Redemption isn't playable at all on most platforms now
If we got a PS5 patch I would move the game onto "Play Next" on my list. But, alas, it sits on my shelf waiting lol.
We all know why it hasn't been patched...because they will be re releasing it for £$ at some point
Has anyone seen my Next Gen Patch?
Next Gen Patch?!
Next Gen Patch!!!
But it's not the second best-selling game in history nor does its Online mode make millions of dollars a month, so in Rockstar's eyes it's essentially garbage.
Now I may be a darn fool but I reckon that I'd rightly purchase that there "current gen" copy of this game, if'n Rockstar were willin' to make it.
A ps5 patch would be pretty nice.
@nedbvai not been announced??? There’s been leaked gameplay footage!!
After seeing how they handled the Gta "Definitive edition", it's clear they only care about the money gta online brings in.
I'm way more interested to see what Dan Houser is doing at Absurd Ventures LLC.
@nedbvai
You know that most gamers are older than 30 now, right? This is why there's more 18 rated games than there used to be.
More SP games are still sold than MP ones, most MP games don't last as long.
Greedy *****
Rather they spend time and money on RDR 3
I dont want to hear any excuses for this game not getting a 60 fps ps5 patch.Hell,2016"s ratchet and clank got a 60 fps boost last year.
@Amusei But even that game has 60 fps,so dont make excuses for them. It would take very little effort.Hell, life is strange remastered pumped out a 60 fps patch just 2 weeks after release.
I've long awaited this <3 what a game.
@sjbsixpack that's not announced is it?? Let's not forget all the delays that Will come. It's years away & I mean years!
@nedbvai Uh, GTA6 was absolutely announced, lol. Living under a rock, or what?
I just realized that this october, is red dead redemption 2"s 5 year anniversary, since it first released. Maybe thats the final chance for a 60fps on ps5 .
I want a patch for it to run on PSVR2!
@hulkie GTA Trilogy Defintive Edition is the reason why Rockstar didn't bother doing remasters of RDR2 and GTA 4. If the reception is luke warm for their most beloved games they didn't think it was worth the investment and moved everyone onto GTA 6.
How about a combo of 2 + 1 in that order as a ps5 version? Join the story up in chronological order in the latest game engine version.
@nedbvai i think we’ll get a trailer this year, release late 2024.
I think we can take actual gameplay footage as an announcement that they’re well in to makin it.
You know a game is good when even my non gamer father put over 100 hours into it (he really likes westerns)!
It'll be the same as it was with the GTA V PS5 patch: they'll release it as a 'new' version for £40 when it's the same code with the settings turned up.
And I'll still buy it sigh
@GuyProsciutto they haven't announced it at all. No trailer or website or anything it's at least 10 years away
@sjbsixpack @GuyProsciutto they haven't announced it at all. No trailer or website or anything it's at least 10 years away
@sjbsixpack no way it comes out next year. I promise you at best it's 2026
great Game to play once. tried it again last year and i was surprised how slow and a slog it felt.
im in the minority, but certainly wouldnt care if it didnt get ps5 version
Can’t believe it’s been less than five years since RDR2 came out. Feels more like ten.
It runs pretty well on my system. Some issues here, and there but for the most part nothing too terrible.
My favorite game of all time and i just want an upgrade, or fine resell it to me, but i want to replay it, just in next gen glory and amazing load times. Either way works for me. I have it on Series X so it runs the better One X version, but PS4 owners are even worse off as the first red dead isn’t even on the system no more. So i really want R* to fix that for you PS5 only gamers. They have a lot of work to do, but it’s all hands on for GTA6, so i suppose i can understand that.
Rockstar will eventually go back and remaster this on PS5. Just have to be patient and wait.
Same case goes for the inevitable Red Dead Redemption 1 Remake.

I had never played this, but started to last year after I got my PS5. The consistent 60 FPS in most games on PS5 now has spoiled me, and 30 FPS just feels like the game is broken now, running slow and bad. It's not to the point of unplayable, but I'd just rather play something else.
Need to get this updated, as well as Bloodborne.
If it’s not at 61fps then f you. How dare you give us the anti-consumer 30fps, those are third world frame rates causing my first world problems.
It’s so anti consumer to not give us the millions of gamers every single thing we ask for.

50m... Dear God. Simply insane numbers.
Not a fan of RDR2 personally, but impressive numbers nonetheless.
I truly wish we could get a Bully 2, but lately it seems more and more unlikely, especially considering more and more effort is being put into GTA6, and everything that isn't GTA6, is not even an afterthought.
I hope I'm wrong, a new Bully game would be incredible news.
@Barryburton97 Please and yes. I agree 100%. I have both on Series X. But i want next gen copies and of course for all of you on PS to get RDR1 back. Let’s hope after GTA6, this get’s pushed to the front of the line at R*
Calling it right here even though it breaks my heart: Red Dead Redemption 2 won't receive any additional single-player content or a PS5 patch. The sooner I accept it, the sooner the pain goes away.
