We're all pretty pumped for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor here at Push Square. The first game, Fallen Order, has its flaws, but is by and large a very fun action game with well-realised lightsaber combat. The sequel will obviously build upon the solid foundation put down with the original, and that means expanding the combat system to give players many more options.
In a new video from IGN, Respawn's Stig Asmussen and Jason de Heras talk about building upon the first game's two stances with a further three, providing players with five different ways to engage enemies.
Of course, the classic single-bladed stance remains intact, and is essentially the all-rounder of Cal's movesets. You can continue to go all Darth Maul with the double-bladed saber, which is best for crowd control but has longer attack wind-ups to compensate.
Twin blades is one of the new stances, allowing Cal to dual-wield lightsabers. This is described as a glass cannon stance; you'll take more damage, but your attacks are faster and you have access to more combos. It's also the only stance that allows you to cancel out of your own attack animations in order to block or dodge.
The other two new stances are called cross guard and blaster. Cross guard stance basically turns Cal's lightsaber into a heavy greatsword-type weapon, featuring a hilt and delivering the strongest attacks at the cost of speed. Finally, the blaster stance sees the character wield a single-bladed saber alongside a firearm, giving you more ranged options while keeping things rooted in melee combat.
It all sounds good to us — we can't wait to try all these new techniques out ourselves. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is launching on PS5 on 28th April 2023. What do you think of these enhancements to combat? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sounds like great refinements tbh. As someone who was slightly above Luke-warm on the original (but a massive souls-like fan) I’m looking forward to the sequel. I like to think that the series will have a big glow-up following the commercial success of Fallen Order.
I just wanna swing a lightsabre about though
I thought the first was excellent in most areas, with a few glaring flaws. Especially combat, the map and lack of fast travel. They seem to be focussing on all three of these areas so i'm really excited what this sequel could bring.
Cal shot first.

Having only watched someone play the first game, this is one I might consider picking up for myself.
The first game looked like one of the best takes on being a Jedi ever made, so why I chose not to play it is beyond me. It's been so long since I enjoyed a good Star Wars game, not since the MMO.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
@Th3solution
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
That's great and all but aren't we forgetting the most important thing?
Will we get more than crappy poncho's to wear?
@OrtadragoonX It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense
@kungfumongoose Judging by the pre-order stuff not being ponchos, I'd say we can wear non-poncho stuff as well. (We could already customise the suit in Fallen Order but only slightly)
Cool.star wars jedi fallen order is a really good game.cant wait for star wars jedi survivor.word up son
I hope there's a buffalo stance and Neneh Cherry plays everytime you use it.
I literally cannot wait. Everything about this sounds great and I already thought the first game was very strong.
Everyone KEEP saying how monumentally packed the first quarter of this year is with great new releases. I keep wondering why because I’m not really seeing that. (Having no interest in Harry Potter hasn’t helped… sigh).
I was mildly irritated to see this get delayed. It’s the one I’m really waiting on!
Enjoyed the first one much more than many reviewers and commenters led me to believe I would. My midi-chlorians are ready.
This should be good. Still miss the old Kyle Catarn games though

Happy to see they're improving upon the combat! April 28 can't get here soon enough.
I wonder if you'll actually wield a lightsaber this time and not a glowing baseball bat.
