Kicking off on the 4th August, Evo 2023 has confirmed which fighting games will be taking to the main stage. This year, eight titles have been chosen, with Street Fighter 6 leading the charge.
With Capcom's anticipated brawler set to release on the 2nd June, players will have roughly two months to get clued up on the competitive scene. The timing should make for an especially intense tournament.
Anyway, the full roster is as follows:
- Street Fighter 6
- Guilty Gear Strive
- Tekken 7
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- King of Fighters XV
- Melty Blood: Type Lumina
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
It's a fairly predictable lineup — even with the celebrated return of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 — but it's hard to argue with the selection as a whole. It's also worth noting that Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the enhanced and expanded version of Granblue Fantasy Versus that's set to launch later this year, will have a special pre-release tournament at Evo 2023. More details on that will be shared soon, says Cygames.
But wait, there's more! Evo is actually undergoing some changes this year, as it's been confirmed that all of the main tournaments will adopt a new Top 6 bracket format for their finals — instead of a more traditional Top 8. This will apparently benefit the efficiency of the event.
And last but not least, all of the main game tournaments will offer a minimum $25,000 prize pool. That's a huge increase on previous years, and it's great to see that players will be better rewarded for their efforts.

The return of Marvel vs Capcom, gonna keep my expectations low of any hope of a new game in that series. But RIP to Street Fighter 5. A rocky start but ended up being a great game at the end. So looking forward to 6 now and glad to see King of Fighters still getting some love.
-Top 6 instead top 8 getting mainstage recognition and payment is a bad decision imo
-Surprised it was Marvel 3 instead of 2, considering how Marvel 2 was gonna be in the 2020 lineup before covid
-No DNF Duel really is just a testament to how much that game flopped, a newly released FG from one of the most acclaimed FG devs not being a shoe in should be surprising, but DNF just wasn’t good
-SF6 might be the largest bracket Evo has seen. SFV, Strive and Smash were consistently at the top with console exclusivity—not to mention the gaming playerbase has grown dramatically since 2020.
@Deoxyr1bose I mean the MvC 3 twitch rivals was VERY popular and you see more online tournaments of the game too. Makes sense that they are giving the spot to a more active community than the most beloved game in the franchise. And also don't forget, that MvC2 tournament was only going to have the final stage at EVO, the elimination process between participant was going to be held in other tournaments (or at least that's why they said). This tournament is open and will be fully held at Vegas.
I love the fact that the prize pool is increasing. EVO Japan will have 10k minimum for every game and that was a first for EVO. Now it's 25k. It's not like Sony is going to pay a million to every winner but the money for sure will stimulate the scene.
EVO being the only event with direct qualification to that 1 million Capcom Cup is going to make a CRAZY tournament.
The SF6 hype is going to be undeniable at EVO this year. Very exciting!
So Sony is allowed to buy EVO and they’re increasing the price pool now to create a monopoly on fighting e-sports?
It’s a pity the organisation removed Super Smash from the tournament too. Guess air time of games on other platforms isn’t allowed anymore.
@Friendly On the Evo website since the Sony buyout, it’s been started that any game is eligible regardless of platform. If you want the reason for why Smash isn’t present, look at Nintendo and their aggressive behavior to smash tournaments. Also Evo isn’t necessarily a monopoly. There’s CEO, Frosty Faustings, Combo Breaker, tons of other grass root tourneys, and individual game circuits like Capcom Cup with even greater prizes (2 mil pot)
@Deoxyr1bose they said that two years ago, yes. It’s the standard corporate stuff that most people fall for.
However, all games are now being played on PS4, even the games that formerly were played on pc. And as we know, Sony doesn’t like cross-play, so that’s not a option anymore too. https://bleedingcool.com/games/evo-2023-announces-complete-eight-game-lineup/
And they’re creating their monopoly. Not there yet, but they will. I expect them to work out a deal to incorporate Capcom Cup within EVO in the next year or two, when live events will become the norm again.
@Friendly The only games to previously use PC that’s in this lineup is Tekken 7, and that was during EVO Online with how notoriously bad the console online is for Tekken. PC is just way harder to use for tournaments due to how fickle they are.
@Deoxyr1bose Maybe. But you can agree there’s an obvious pattern here. Why aren’t the other games that used pc or other systems around?
@Friendly Smash removed itself. Nintendo is actively sabotaging their own scene and didn't want it at EVO. It's not a Sony thing.
@Voltan I wouldn’t expect a different reply on a Sony fan website.
@Friendly Whatever man. I'm not saying EVO was without faults last year. For one, it had way too many ad breaks and they ran way too long.
Smash being out of it is really not on Sony though. If you followed the Smash scene a little, you'd know this.
@Friendly
It's got nothing to do with fanboyism. It's simply business. Nintendo wants Smash players to play tournaments through their partnership with Panda. Unfortunately for them Panda ran into a wave of controversy last year leading to the "postponement" (seems more like canceled to me at this point but we will see) of the Smash World Tour championship, pro Smash players resigned in droves, etcetera.
Basically the Smash competitive scene is a mess right now. It's not necessarily all Nintendo's fault but they do share some of the blame for being so rigid with who they work with. Sony buying EVO had nothing to do with it. I'm pretty sure Sony would love to have Smash for EVO as it would bring in lots of interest but that's just not going to happen with the current state of affairs.
Correction: I just saw Nintendo is now partnered with Generation Esports. So I guess the Panda deal is now truly gone. It still doesn't really change my point about them being rigid about who they work with but I figured I'd update my comment anyway.
UMvC3 LIVES I CAN'T F****** BELIEVE IT
Well that's certainly one hell of a motivation to pick up the game for myself! XD
Excited to see mvc3, but had a slight hope that I would see virtual Fighter 5 ultimate showdown after it showed up for Evo Japan this year
Competitive smash is a joke ; glad MK made it though , truly a diverse roster of actual fighters now ; 3D , 3vs3 , 1v1 anime fighters & 1v1 2.5D & gory M rated fighters 👌
@nomither6 in fairness a platform fighter like Smash, Rivals, or even MVS would’ve made it more diverse
