As expected, Hogwarts Legacy is flying off store shelves. The latest physical retail charts for the UK are in, and the game has earned itself a second week in the top spot. The PS5 version continues to command the biggest share of the copies sold with 78 per cent. As pointed out by GamesIndustry.biz, the last-gen versions of the game are yet to launch, with a PS4 release coming in April, so it's likely the game will be hovering around the charts for a long while.
Elsewhere, God of War Ragnarok and FIFA 23 swapped places, perhaps just for a change of scenery. Sony's epic sequel is in third and the footie sim is now in second. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has moved up one spot to fifth, and Grand Theft Auto V is back in the mix at number seven.
Here's the latest (physical) top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 18th February 2023
- Hogwarts Legacy
- FIFA 23
- God of War Ragnarok
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Nintendo Switch Sports
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Splatoon 3

I haven't put this game down since I got it, it's incredible the Potter game I always dreamed of hope it keeps doing better and better. Hopefully they decide in the future to do some DLC
Really enjoying Hogwarts, well done devs. GOW:R goes on.
It's just simply one of the most jolly games I've played in a while. Very happy to see it doing so well!
Well deserved for this incredible game. Have not stopped playing since I got it. Definitely recommend it!
It's mind-boggling that Grand Theft Auto V still on the list. I found a source online which mentioned that as of Feb 2023, the game sold 175 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the total amount of PS4 consoles sold is around 118 million, and PS5 consoles is at 32 million.
So there must be 25 million people who bought two copies of the game (maybe one for PS4 and one for PS5 since the list doesn't mention platforms). That's just crazy.
The human race will figure out time travel before they figure out just who in the hell is still buying GTA 5.
I can easily see it being the best selling game this year.
@extragood
I may be mistaken, but I’m fairly certain that there have been promotions where buying the game again could get you a bunch of bonus shark cards much cheaper than buying the cards direct.
@Korgon Right? It captures the magic and wonder of the books and movies perfectly not gonna lie when I first did the flying class and that awesome whimsical score that mimiced the style of the movies down to a T kicked in I welled up a bit. It was an incredible moment also the voice actress for the female avatar is awesome her performance was so charming and charismatic it had me smiling constantly ^__^
@lacerz Ah, that would make sense, thank you for chiming in. And even if half of the 25 million copies were sold as part of the promotion you mentioned, it's still a massive success on the scale of lifetime sales of other titles.
Nice to see God of War: Ragnarök still selling well.
@Keyblade-Dan
For sure that part was a highlight! I especially liked how flying definitely felt a bit unwieldy at first as it should be but as I continued flying I started getting the hang of it. Now I can fly like the best of them.
Don't know if it was intentional or not to make it take some getting used to but it really helped sell the whimsical vibe of that section!
@Wheatly in the UK The digital entertainment and retail association (ERA) said 89.5% of games sold had been digital downloads and the remaining 10.5% actual physical copies in 2022.
Did Wild Hearts not chart?
@Korgon
Exactly! I love this game. Playing it brings me joy. It’s been a long time since I’ve had that continued joyful/fun filled experience in a video game. This game just keeps on impressing the more and more I play it. It deserves every accolade it is getting!
It’s so good. You can tell that a lot of love went into this game. In the wrong hands it could have been a disaster but there’s so much depth. And the attention to detail makes it feel like a living, breathing world. Avalanche should be very proud at what they have achieved. Definite GOTY contender.
@Deoxyr1bose Wild Hearts debuted at number 26
I’m not that far into Hogwarts, but exploring the school has been a blast! And some of the little things just make it golden, like coming around a corner to see someone you could completely ignore and run past getting screamed at by a Howler?! More please!
@extragood it actually started as a late gen PS3 game. So many people triple dipped on the title.
This is definitely a dream game for HP fans. I'm not one of them and I think it's great. I can only imagine the bliss they are feeling.
Absolutely love Hogwarts Legacy. I will admit, it makes me feel so good that the people who said they were boycotting this game have flopped so hard.
Hogwarts Legacy is a special game. The amount of customization is fantastic.
@extragood It was also on PS3, X360, Xbox One, Series X|S and PC so it’s obviously not all from PS4 and PS5 alone.
@extragood It not hard to see why the games keep selling. The game came out 9 years ago. There are people who was 9 when the game came out, and are turning 18 this year, and can now finally buy the game.
@JohntheRaptor As a massive Potterhead I can assure you bliss would be an understatement ^__^
Fantastic game and well deserved. You can see all the love devs put into it.
Me and my girlfriend are loving it so much. Even though it possesses all of those open world tropes we’ve come to expect there is something really special about it. It has bags of charm and I can’t see myself getting bored of the exploration or the combat anytime soon.
@Sam_ATLUS Ouch! Wild Hearts debut at 26 sounds low.
Honestly, I'm happy to see Splatoon 3 back in the Top 10.
No Xbox games charted in the top 10? I wonder why?
@Ward_ting @JohnSmitheroo @lacerz @ItsBritneyB_tch @NorrinRadd @Total_Weirdo @Loamy @Korgon @Keyblade-Dan I'm happy for the game's success, it's very well deserved! Looking forward to playing my copy myself soon as the last/final patch and content updates are released.
In the meantime I'm re-watching the Harry Potter films to get myself in the proper mood, and also will be platinuming LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 soon.
@meistergeister Sony only has 1 game , calm down lol . both are slacking
@extragood It also released for PS3 and the various Xbox consoles which would explain the additional sales but either way its total number is staggering.
