The appointed date is almost upon us. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is launching later this week, on 3rd March for both PS5 and PS4, and we got a bombastic launch trailer to get the blood pumping.
Team Ninja is bringing the expertise learned during the development of both Nioh and Nioh 2 to bear, trading the cast of Nobunaga's Ambition for that of Dynasty Warriors. But don't worry if you don't know Sun Jian from Cao Cao, this new take on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms saga is really just a backdrop for a wonderfully detailed and gloriously engaging combat system.
A final demo for Wo Long is available now on PSN if you can't wait for the full release, just make sure to switch to Performance Mode on PS5 to get that silky-smooth 60fps experience.
Where are your hype levels for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty? Will you be diving into Team Ninja's latest, or are you taking more of a wait-and-see approach? Prepare for the fight of your life in the comments section below.

There are too many great games coming too quickly!😫
Wait, this isn't the game I thought it was. I was confused seeing a human main character.
Man.... I just don't know on this one after the latest demo. It's visuals are such a downgrade alongside the level design being as bad or worse than Nioh and copying and pasting the same UI and godawful loot system. Those muddy and very dated visuals actually greatly affect the combat system and being able to see the indicators they baked into it.
Considering how basic this looks on PS5, I was also pretty shocked to see framerate hiccups on either visual mode(of which seem identical in terms of framerates and visuals). All evident in the very first extremely linear opening level which is essentially a meager tutorial.
It's a shame because I actually really like the faster parry and counter attack based combat in this versus Nioh, but I can't pay full price for what amounts to a late ps3 or early ps4 game visually, that has copied foundational assets from nioh, and the affects of these choices on the central core aspects to the game, combat/exploration.
As I did with Nioh and Nioh 2, I'll wait for the sale and thus be less annoyed by it's shortcomings and lack of any improvements over the shortcoming of the Nioh titles and enjoy the best part about these titles, combat.
@HMazzy111 perhaps you were thinking of Wu Kong- Black Myth?
Trailer aside, after actually playing the demo, it leaves me the impression of being a rating 7 maybe 7,5 game.
I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it's worth playing once, especially if you can play it on Game Pass or you can get it at a discount or part of PS+ later on.
Pumped for this one. Finished the demo yesterday. It is indeed very, very similar to Nioh 2 but my gut says I’m going to enjoy it regardless.
Although I’m worried about the difficulty. Demo was a breeze. Parry is too forgiving and kind of OP!? Maybe the full game will be harder.
Couldn't get past the first proper boss!! What a git, just when I finally beat he only went and transformed into a second state, gah!!!!
Apart from that I quite enjoyed it!
@Relygon something I remember in sekiro I was reluctant to try parry here I’m using it like block.
@KaijuKaiser You’re likely right. It’s probably just a minority of Souls fans like myself who complains about the difficulty anyway. But honestly it’s not that big of a deal, I’m sure it’ll turn out fine either way!
@SystemAddict Precisely… it’s so good you can essentially use it as guard.
Visuals in the 1st demo were quite good and enough next gen.
Do you guys say that there was a significant downgrade in the 2nd demo?
I'm lazy to download and try it myself, as I'm too busy in Horizon Forbidden West right now.
Also, would this 2nd demo be available later after release so I could try it later and decide for myself?
Demo was brutal but i loved what i played and plan on buying it this week.
Looking at the different areas I can’t help but feel I’ve already played through them as I did in Nioh 1 and 2.
Cannot wait for this. It looks quite similar to Nioh and as far as I’m concerned that’s a VERY good thing. The superb gameplay loop and amazing combat in Nioh 2 hooked me for years - in fact I still play it daily. I couldn’t care less if the graphics aren’t next-level, I play these games for the gameplay, sheer number of builds and complex, in-depth systems and variety of options.
Easily the best game I’ve played in the last two generations. BRING ON WO-LONG.
@KundaliniRising333 This is the third time you’ve used stories about Wo-Long to pedantically moan about Nioh 2. If you don’t like the games then maybe don’t play them.
So is this a dark souls style or a Nioh style, or Sekiro? It says explore, but I don’t see anything to explore in trailer. Looks very Sekiro action type.
@Blacksmith1985 I would say the visuals In the second demo are definitely worse but it May be because it's dark out? The second demo actually runs into the first after, and I actually thought the dusty cliffs area to look just as muddied. I do think that if the clarity were better alone, it wouldn't mess with combat as much into just spamming the parry button.
The demo does run sometime past release. I can't remember the date off hand but I believe it's a week or two perhaps even longer.
@Arnna you are simply just choosing to ignore what I did like about nioh, and not realizing that I have stated things I did like about that and this title. Perhaps it's because your bias simply implores you to attack anyone that offers valid commentary contrary to your beliefs stated above, that the nioh games were in your opinion the best games in the last two generations.
Which I think is great, and respect it. However don't come in all hot and attack anyone that may have areas they saw could improve. It lacks credibility, is combative, and honestly just feels like you trolling.
I adore souls likes and have played them all. Thus I played both wo Long demos to completion and shared my thoughts in a comment section about the demos. It's OK to disagree. But to clap back with contextually selective childish remarks like, just don't play it, is just in bad taste. It seems to be a trend with many here that claim my comments are negative because they differ from their own opinions, and thus they decide the only course of action is to then respond with negativity often in the form of shallow insults.
@KundaliniRising333 👍

Game literally looks like a ps3 game.
@KundaliniRising333 I didn’t ignore anything. Your complaints amount to 4 things. The graphics, the loot, UI and one vague sentence about level design.
Graphics - Your statement that the graphics affect the combat/gameplay is nonsensical to me. I’ve never experienced a single moment where this is the case and I have 2000 hours clocked in Nioh 2. Care to elaborate using specifics?
The graphics are obviously not cutting edge but if you need amazing graphics to enjoy a game I don’t know what to tell you. I’d rather have amazing gameplay than amazing graphics and I think most gamers would agree.
As for the loot. There are at least three ways to offload loot which allow you more flexibility, especially in the later game. Two of these are dismantling loot for tempering options in the blacksmith, and ‘making offerings’ which convert loot into one of the game’s two currencies. Literally the only way to obtain this currency.
You can also set up thresholds in the options which stop you from being able to pick up loot based on the selected rarity threshold.
As for the UI - It’s a complicated game, it’s going to have a complicated UI. Anyone who has reached end-game content is intimately familiar with the menus and can navigate them quickly.
Personally, the only part I found unintuitive in Nioh 2 was the skill-tree menu.
Level design - While not on par with FROMSOFT level design, I never thought of the level design in Nioh 2 to be ‘bad’ in any way.
For the most part they have clever shortcuts that open up as you play each level and have good variety of visual styles between regions.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. The draw of Nioh is that is has the best combat and build variety of any ‘souls like’ and the sheer variety of complex options and menus leave absolutely nothing missing or wanting. The end game content (Underworld) and the NG+ cycles add new enemies and totally different enemy placement. You can essentially play the game 5 times and have a different experience each time. Then if you add the 100 levels of Underworld, it’s amazing value, and something that FROMSOFT could learn from.
We haven’t seen different enemies and enemy placement for NG+ in a FROMSOFT game since Dark Souls 2.

@Arnna so I'll bite on one aspect and discuss visuals affecting combat. The rest of my critiques are valid and simply because you accept the UI, loot, and level design, doesn't mean your inability to see that others may find those aspects a downside is something I cannot nor want to argue about. As I can see how it doesn't bother you, yet you can't see how it may bother others, makes this really just bias getting in the way of stepping back into objective thinking.
Now in regards to the visuals I think we got confused, when I mentioned that I was specifically talking about the visuals in Wo Longs demos and as I was playing they absolutely affected combat along with the attempts at Flashy animations and particle effects. This opinion is not as isolated to me either. A quick trip to reddit will result in many making a very similar point to the muddy visuals and combat flares affecting animation cues and timing parries based on learning enemies patterns.
Now Look @Arnna, I get you adore Nioh, I'm happy for you. However it doesn't take much to be able to see that perhaps your adoration compels you to dispel any criticism. However perhaps maybe try doing so with a practice of viewing things from an alternate point of view where you can share your thoughts and understand others' thoughts may differ without continously resorting to disregarding anything other than your opinion via insults like the comment you just left durxll123 above. As I mentioned after your attack toward me, it feels like petty trolling. I appreciate the more detailed response you gave after the fact, but cmon. First the hogwarts thread trolling and now this again?
"ridiculous hyperbole"
"real gamers don't care about visuals"
Do you not see how pretentious that reads?

@KundaliniRising333 Feel free to point to where you have given a ‘critique’ of the loot system and UI of Nioh 2.

@KundaliniRising333 That fact you think my comments about JK Rowling were ‘trolling’ says a lot about your understanding of social issues.
