Barcelona-based indie developer Lince Works will be closing its doors this April, the company has confirmed. The sad news broke earlier today, when the studio released a statement on its current situation.
Lince Works explains: "The last couple of years have been particularly difficult as we shifted towards the development of new IPs and a new course for the company. We were ambitious about what we wanted to achieve as a studio, but sadly, although we made good progress, the economic context was not favourable and we ran out of time."
It continues: "It breaks our hearts to know that all the work we have done for the past year will ultimately not come to a completion."
It's always a shame to see a development team call it quits, especially when the studio's previous projects were warmly received. Lince Works is known for stealth action title Aragami (2016) and its sequel, Aragami 2 (2021).
"We will always be grateful to our community and players around the world," Lince Works writes. It also reassures potential players that Aragami and Aragami 2 will remain available across all platforms, complete with online co-op functionality.
We actually interviewed Lince Works all the way back in 2016, just before the release of Aragami:
We wish everyone at Lince Works all the best for the future.

Well that’s unfortunate
It's a shame none of the big 3 Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft didn't end up buying Lince Works to realise their potential on their next IP. Would have been the type of small acquisition that made a lot of sense
I would still buy it just in case. The amount of devs who have promised their titles will still remain, only to be delisted without warning and not available physically. Fortunately these games are available on proper disc copy.
I really wish someone would buy them and allow them to continue their work. They've proven their worth, even if the sales weren't as strong as some other games get.
Arigami was excellent, but its sequel was a complete miss. I was hoping they would bounce back and making something great though. I hope they find work ASAP.
I feel for them. Its always been a tough industry.
I spent 20 years as a dev and for every game I have released theres another that got canned or the studio closed.
I was fortunate to always land on my feet, and I sincerely hope these devs get snapped up for good jobs quickly.
These games were the closest we got to Tenchu.
Sad times, hope they find new jobs soon.
And this is why companies tend to get bought up by big companies. If they don’t, it only ever a matter of time before they have to close their doors.
Aragami II was also released day one on gamepass, even the M$ money could not prevent this. Maybe a discussion for another time whether this was detrimental to the studio in the long run.
Hurts as well since it was a Spanish based studio and my Spanish heritage will be rooting for them to find their feet and keep moving forward.
Best of luck to them!
@AverageGamer Well, that and the 2 Aragami's were only okay.
The lack of money hurt their games, with only like three or four enemies repeated the whole game and copy and pasted graphics every level.
They excelled at level design for stealth, but had nothing on every other level, be it that character designs, even a slight story, graphics beyond a PS2 level.
And Aragami 2 had some of the worst save points I've seen in years, where you could easily lose an hour of progress.
Not really surprised they didn't make it.
Thats a shame as i really liked the Aragami games.
RIP Lince Works, you will be missed!
