Following the premature passing of iconic actor Lance Reddick earlier this week, Destiny fans have come together to pay tribute to the actor, and his in-game alter-ego Commander Zavala. Screenshots shared online show dozens upon dozens of players all sitting in quiet contemplation at a virtual vigil, gathered around the character in the Tower. Many are expecting developer Bungie to include a permanent memorial to the actor within the game.
While nothing’s been announced on that front just yet, the firm did release a statement earlier in the week, noting that Reddick’s “love for our community shined through in Commander Zavala, in his uncompromising dedication to his craft, and out of the radiating kindness that touched those around him”. Horizon maker Guerrilla Games also released a similar tribute, where the actor had portrayed the popular character of Sylens.
Reddick’s wife, Stephanie, has since released a statement thanking fans for their “overwhelming love, support, and beautiful stories”. And she included a note for Destiny players in particular: “To the thousands of Destiny players who played in special tribute to Lance, thank you. Lance loved you as much as he loved the game.”

That's a really heartwarming sight to see.
Such a heartwarming gesture and hopefully something will be added to the game as a memorial
He'll be greatly missed. Sleep well Commander.
N.i.c.e. respect to the fans.keep his legacy alive.word up son
I was on playing Destiny 2 when I heard the sad news about Lance Reddicks passing and I went straight to the tower. Commander Zavala was surrounded when I landed! It was quite poignant. I stayed around for a while myself and the amount of people running up to pay their respects was amazing to see. Such a sad time and thoughts and prayers to his family.
My fireteam and I paid our respects to Lance shortly after the news broke. There were so many other players doing the same. It was clear Lance loved the Destiny community and it loved him back.
Hats off to the community and of course, to Lance Reddick for voicing a character that moved people enough to do this. He'll never be forgotten, but he will be missed.
Rest well, king.
I don't play Destiny but I would've been there.
I loved him in Fringe
Rest in peace, Guardian.
He loved the game too. I think he had 1400 hrs in D2. If there ever was an actor who knew the community…
That is one thing I love about online communities. Too many times there are negative stories about people cheating on online games and griefers, but when something like this happens, the community really comes together.
R.I.P. Cinderking and thank you for all you contributed to games, movies and TV shows.
