Ghost of Tsushima is not just one of the prettiest games on PS4 – it’s one of the prettiest games ever made! And John Wick director Chad Stahelski, who’s been tasked with bringing Jin Sakai to the big screen, wants to find a way recreate the splendour of Sucker Punch’s sandbox in cinemas around the world.
Speaking to Discussing Film, he shared a little insight into how he’s planning to adapt one of PlayStation’s biggest hits: “Ghost of Tsushima is a really interesting story if you really dive into the tale of Jin Sakai and what the film is really about. And you tie him to these amazing visuals. You can already tell from the John Wick films that I love colour and I love composition. To really try and not only live up to but exceed what the game has done with its visuals is completely fascinating to me.”
He added that he wants to find a way to “push the colour palette”, but pondered: “How can you bring that world to life in a very realistic and grounded way?”
All this talk of colour is interesting, of course, because Ghost of Tsushima also includes a monochrome Kurosawa Mode, which is something Stahelski has also expressed interest in replicating in the past. “It's definitely a conversation,” he said, when quizzed about the possibility of the film being shot in black-and-white.
Ultimately, it sounds to us like Stahelski has a lot of ideas bouncing around his brain, but given his work on the John Wick franchise, we have no doubt he’s going to dream up a visually stunning adaptation of the juggernaut PlayStation game.

John Wick 4 is one of the most visually striking movies I've seen in recent memory, so I have complete faith in Stahelski to pull the dazzling color palette of Ghost of Tsushima off. I really hope the suits at Sony and PlayStation just back off and let Stahelski do his thing. He's earned the carte blanche as far as I'm concerned.
It's hardly going to sound visually gorgeous, is it?
@LN78 Yes, very few things manage to pull off looking gorgeous in a non-visual way.
Every John Wick is beautiful, watched JW4 just over two hours ago and most of the scenes are gorgeous.
Can’t wait to see what they do with Ghost of Tsushima
But won't people be lost?! They'll have to remake the game ASAP so people know what's going on! (Or some rubbish)
I watched one of the Ghost of tsushima gameplay and I was amazed by watching others playing it. I already felt I am watching a "movie" instead of a gamethrough.
I can't decide I am excited about a movie or just need to continue playing the game 🤔😅
Well we know what game Sony is going to remake once the movie is done....
All of the John Wick movies look absolutely amazing, and I can't imagine anyone else being able to pull off a Ghost of Tsushima movie. (Besides like you know, an ACTUAL Japanese director but I digress)
I just want the opening from the game to be in the movie and looks just as incredible then im honestly satisfied.
I rather see a remake of the first Infamous games for everyone complaining about a remake man Demon Souls was the reason for me to buy a PS5 alone.
I have really high hopes for this, particularly with the commitment to a complete Japanese cast, speaking in Japanese. Visually, I'm expecting the Kurosawa nods to be in flashback sequences, leaving them free to make the visuals pop in the main narrative.
@LN78 I heard that it's going to sound visually gorgeous but then when you watch it it actually isn't
Never knew this was getting a film. Loved Ghost of Tsushima easily one of my favourite games
