PS5 has absolutely exploded in Japan this year, crossing the three million units milestone, and overtaking the PS4 and PS3 launch aligned. An influx of stock availability has absolutely catapulted the console to extraordinary numbers domestically, but things are very slowly beginning to level off now. Case in point: this week the system sold 64,869 units – still impressive, but a little lighter than earlier in the year.
Of course, Sony will be looking to the launch of Resident Evil 4 to help boost things later this month. This week, software sales weren’t particularly impressive, but a trio of PlayStation titles did make the top ten, with Hogwarts Legacy and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty continuing to stick around. Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was one of two new launches, shifting 9,031 physical copies on the PS4. The latest data, as provided by Famitsu, is below.

It’s good to see ps5 doing well everywhere.
@4kgk2 This year has basically been a relaunch.
Another reason why PS5 Pro does not make too much sense. By the time people get the current version, a marketing campaign may try (if the rumors are true) to tell them they should get the newer, shinier PS5 Pro.
@extragood I think pro rumors are fake we barely have any next gen only games taken advantage of the current ps5.
Nice to see Project Zero pretty high in the software chart ^__^
Amazing Nintendo's 2017 take on a 2013 tablet is still selling neck and neck with the all-new PS5 in Japan.
Also amazing there's 4 digits in the Xbox sales figures in Japan right now. Sure lifetime sales are still a few hundred k, but that's a surprising spike when no major new software has released, even for the West let alone Japan.
Do we know when we'll get PSVR2 sales numbers? I imagine the US will be one of the worst since it's direct online sale only still.
@4kgk2 But Switch Pro with a high powered eGPU dock is absolutely necessary, an obvious need to fix the anemic hardware, and reliable sources say is going to happen in
201820192020202120222023!If there's one thing the past 6 years have taught us is we have exactly as much insight as to if a "Pro" model will exist after the rumor articles as we did before them....
@NEStalgia I don't think a Switch Pro is going to happen. I foresee a Switch 2 coming in late 2024 early 2025.
I could totally see it being something like you mentioned where a dock has a higher-powered GPU inside (enough to convincingly run games at a DLSS-supported 4K and maybe some real-time ray tracing options as well) while portable play would benefit from better CPU/GPU specs and RAM over the current Switch but still at 720p and absolutely no ray tracing.
I could also see Nintendo selling 2 models out of the gate - Standard and Lite.
I, too, am surprised at the recent spike in Xbox Series X sales.
Anyways, things are certainly looking interesting on the Japanese Front right now.
@extragood they want people to double dip
I wonder what caused the slight PS4 bump? PS4 selling 55% of XSX|S is a big oof for Xbox
@themightyant Thing is that is a very good week for Xbox in Japan, the other week they sold 400 or so
@GamingFan4Lyf Of course Switch Pro isn't going to happen, that's the point But we've been told since 2017 every year that it's a sure bet the Pro is coming out "next year!" And now we're on that same news feed with PS.
@NEStalgia LOL! Ooooh yeah! I forgot about the Switch Pro saga....thank goodness. 😁
@Keyblade-Dan let’s hope these sales lead to more games from the series!
@EvilSilentFrame Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞 I hope they port the original trilogy too don't need anything fancy just straight ports with a better frame rate will do me ^__^ (hell even without an fps boost I love the series so much I'll take anything 😅)
@Keyblade-Dan the original trilogy were the best though I’m LOVING Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. I’m close to the end. Just taking my time and exploring every room multiple times trying to find as much as I can. The story in this one is so interesting, I just want to read more.
I just want to play God of War 1 and 2 on my PS5 without having to play by a cloud service
