Development on Bloober Team’s PS5 remake of Silent Hill 2 is close to completion, CEO Piotr Babieno revealed in an interview reported by Bankier.pl. He stressed, however, this doesn’t necessarily mean that a release is imminent – and he explained that its launch date will ultimately be decided by publisher Konami.
“Silent Hill 2 is technically ready,” he confirmed, as translated by Google Translate. “It doesn’t mean that the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners; what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands.”
The interview goes on to dig a little deeper into Bloober Team’s strategy moving forward. Babieno said that the Polish studio’s ambition is to be as big and respected as Naughty Dog, and he also alluded to the developer potentially adopting the Sony studio’s cross-media strategy, with HBO’s critically acclaimed television show recently reinvigorating sales of The Last of Us.
Elsewhere, he talked a little bit about virtual reality, explaining that he believes it’s the future of horror, but he wants to build games specifically for the medium, rather than port existing projects like the studio has in the past. We’d be really interested to see what it could do with PSVR2, and Babieno added that he’s convinced his company will have achieved success in the sector before 2027.

I hope it’s released this year. Dead Space, RE4 and SH2 in one year would be amazing. Three of the best horror games.
@Total_Weirdo Pretty sure it's a timed console exclusive.
Bring it on! The best RE and best SH games (if you exclude PT, which is one of those extraordinarily rare 11/10 tier titles*) remade in the same year. Destiny smiles upon us gamers!
*note: in my opinion, wholly subjective as it is
The original is one of my favorite games ever. I will remain skeptical but I can't wait to try it out.
How timed exclusive is this to Ps5? Thinking PC here not Xbox. I have a good GPU and would like to let it eat this.
@Total_Weirdo It's a timed exclusive for PS5 and Steam for 12 months
This is a really risky entry. One of the most hated gaming developers partnering with one of the most polarizing horror devs, all in an effort to remake one of the best horror games of all time. This could either completely reinvigorate Konami, Bloober Team, and Silent Hill, or do the opposite.
DTF = Down to Forever replace my original PS2 copy of SH2 with this remake if they do a good job with it. Crossing my fingers!
This is the first remake I'm actually excited for. I know I played the original but remember almost nothing about it or if I even finished it. This came out around my late teens early 20's which were a blur so this will mostly be a fresh experience for me.
Looking forward to it. Personally quite enjoyed what they did with Medium so looking forward to their take.
Sounds very ambitious, maybe too much so, either I still don't like James' new face, too pointy and jarring.
@get2sammyb I think Microsoft admitted in the whole ABK deal that FF7 Remake as well as SH2 Remake will never come to Xbox, so I'd say it's forever.
I know people like to clown on Bloober but I’m really hoping they nail it.
I'm more excited for this than RE4
i hope silent hill 3 is next
@NeonPizza No thanks. If VR is the absolute, immediate future of games, I’ll be deeply disappointed. To date, VR makes me nauseous and aggravates a previous eye injury I had with extended play sessions. I’m lucky if I can get through 30 minutes of VR (or 3D film) before I can’t continue. I’ve passed out playing VR previously. It’s an interesting medium, for sure, but I can’t escape my personal experience with it and therefore cannot endorse it. In an age where accessibility in gaming has increased significantly, I hope that options remain for those of us that may never be able to play a game with a headset. I’m all for new innovations to change the way we enjoy media, but I’m hoping that there’s different avenues of a gaming future than VR.
@Deoxyr1bose Konami is only hated so much because they've turned their backs on their classic IPs (and most gaming in general) in recent years.
Now, if gamers want to prove that they themselves are not hypocrites, if Silent Hill 2's remake is really good, shouldn't they put their hatred aside and pick up the game and support it, which in turn would generate profit and show Konami "Oh, people actually want this, let's make more"?
OT: Barring it being a total disaster, inject this into me on day one, please. Can't wait. SH2 is the best. ❤
I cannot wait for this, hopefully a 2023 release.
I hope they do it as much justice as Re2 Remake. 🤞 Hope to see some gameplay soon.
@bemaniac its coming to PC at the same time as the PS5 version
@Total_Weirdo timed console exclusive. That means the only console at launch that can play it is PS5. The game is coming to PC at the same time.
... can't be worse than Grove Street Games's disastrous GTA: Definitive Edition..
@CieloAzure I could see this game being a Fall 2023 release maybe? I highly doubt it'll release any sooner.
I’ve never played a Silent Hill game so I’m really looking forward to this! I’m also hoping Silent Hill: f (flower?) isn’t far behind either.
@dschons this!
Exciting. Then we've the SH proper next gen instalment; J horror style gona be cool
Considering this game is done by Bloober Team. J have zero faith in this...They suck as devs.
@Deoxyr1bose I'm hoping this is Konami's Capcom moment, where they completely turn themselves around following years of controversy.
