If you're looking forward to The Wolf Among Us 2, good news: you get to look forward to it for much longer than you expected. Telltale Games has just announced a delay to the anticipated sequel in a statement released on social media:
In a further explanation over on IGN, the team goes over a few reasons it's pushing the release out of 2023. To summarise, Telltale has delayed the game in order to move it from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. Switching to the more modern engine will eventually lead to a more technically impressive title, but the studio wants to avoid crunch and/or releasing the game in a sloppy state.
"Making games is difficult and they need time to be right," says CEO Jamie Ottilie. "And it doesn't do any of us any good to ship something that's not ready."
He continues: "If we put this game out and it's not ready, we're going to get torn to shreds. The expectations are pretty high, and we want time to meet those and we want to be proud of it and know that, 'Hey, this is the best game we could have made.'"
So, it's going to be a long while until we see The Wolf Among Us 2 again, but it sounds like Telltale is going about things the right way. Are you excited for this one? Tell us in the comments section below.

It sucks. But I personally appreciate they are being up front about the delay and saying it won't be out this year instead giving us a date only to delay again and again, or just being silent about it. No point rushing it. And like he said, fans have high expectations after the first. So its the right call.
Still excited for it though!
Thank God. I'm already drowning in games...
Now I'm sure I have a heart, because it's aching.
Good news, everyone.
Well, that sucks.
Take your time playas.i got to many games to play.my backlog is huge.word up son
I get taking all the needed time, but this was announced in 2019 and we barely have anything on it. Developers need to stop announcing things so early.
Shame, but I love their games, so they can take the time they need to develop.
Delays are fine. Just get it right.
@Deoxyr1bose You have a point, but if developers don’t announce early, games inevitably get leaked and they lose control of the narrative. Kind of damned if you do damned if you don’t unless development goes exactly as planned.
This game is not among us.
I know ‘crunch’ is seen as a bad thing but I really wouldn’t mind working overtime as long as I was being paid for it. I wonder if there are game developers who actually liked the crunch?
As long as it's happening I'm good. By far my favourite telltale game. Really wonder why none of the major streaming platforms hasn't picked up fables yet, though after seeing the second half of the first sandman season, perhaps it's for the better.
I own the first game...uhm somewhere? I never really played it - maybe like the first 30-ish minutes or so.
I guess I should search every digital store I have to find this and finally play it.
Shame this is delayed, but I understand.
That’s okay, I’ll wait.
An honest accounting of a release date? Refreshing.
Be nice if Rocksteady followed suit. lol
I never managed to get around to playing the first 1. I'd quite like a remake of the first before playing this. Because I hear that the first is not in great shape.
But im looking forward to this one even if I have to watch a walk through of the first.
@Quintumply I know it's not mentioned in the tweet, but did they give a new release year window anywhere?
I'm assuming 2024 unless corrected.
@KidBoruto Yes, presumably sometime in 2024 but Telltale hasn’t committed to a new date of any kind.
@Quintumply That's fair, thanks for the fast response!
