Sony’s got a lot of eyeballs on the latest trailer for its upcoming animated movie sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. And rightly so: the film looks absolutely incredible, both visually and tonally. Like, seriously – this is top-tier superhero stuff.
Interestingly, the Japanese giant’s using the opportunity for some cross-marketing, as despite this being a film coming to movie theatres on 2nd June, the trailer ends with a PS5 advert. It’s not the first time we’ve seen the firm do crossover marketing like this, and we suppose it makes sense with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming to the console later this year.
Nevertheless, we thought it was worth pointing out. If you haven’t watched the trailer yet and you’re not on a media blackout, give it a swing – it’s shaping up to be a seriously impressive flick.

Nothing to see here. I watched the video expecting there to be some weird out of place PS5 advert in the middle. But no it's just one 3 second slide after the trailer.
Trailer was fire though! But I kinda wished I hadn't watched it, it does that typical trailer thing of giving away the broad plot.
i just hope future spider-man games after this sequel ain’t held hostage by PS anymore .
@nomither6 Ermmm? Who's holding them hostage? You'll have to find someone else to fund, develop, and publish them if you don't want Insomniac to make them anymore lol.
I have long thought Sony should cross-market and leverage various aspects of their business to elevate others far more than they do.
Kind of random to have an ad for a console stuck at the end of a trailer for a movie. Better than "product placement" by far, but still weird.
How's that PSVR2 advertising coming, Sony?
@get2sammyb How about Activision again ?
Seems smart as I'm sure the trailer will get a ton of views. The film is certainly looking very promising.
@nomither6 So they would then be held hostage on Xbox lol?
@Magnus_Selene oh right .
well that’s a shame .
BUT , the deal isn’t official yet so nobody technically knows
@nomither6 Its basically official lol. Also all future Playstation Games come to PC anyway so you dont rly need to buy a PS Console to play Spider Man Games anymore
@Magnus_Selene gotta wait like 3-4 years for it to come to PC , that’s mainly why i said it because i want Day 1 or same year
@nomither6 No lol. Games will come to PC faster and faster. Miles took 2 years, Returnal 1,5, Tlou1 Remake 6 months...
Can't wait for new Spidey and Wolverine
@Magnus_Selene
And that is great. After 6 months or 1 year i either completed the game or buy it for 30% of its initial price as a disc for my PS5 while PC guys pay 70 euro
And what is most hillarious to me is PC players hating PS exclusives but when Sony releases it on PC for an initial price those sell out in millions
The "3+ seconds" PS5 ad slide seems to be in more and more trailers' end nowadays so its not weird. Cool for sure but, yeah.
As for this trailer itself, loved it. I chuckled at the therapy session bit at the end.^^
Really hope we get the Spider-Man Unlimited suit in Spider-Man 2 as its so sick.
@nomither6 Its quite simple Marvel asked MS if they wanted to make SM games and they said so they went to Sony who said yes. You understand right if Sony declined chances are we wouldn't have had the same quality of games as the ones Sony created and funded. Expecting the Marvel's Spider-Man games to go on Xbox is expecting Halo to go on PS5 as well.
Spidey fans eating good this year
@WallyWest “ You understand right if Sony declined chances are we wouldn't have had the same quality of games as the ones Sony created and funded.”
it’s only been one game so far 😂 2 isn’t out yet lol . Spider-man had bangers before PS4 - Spider-man PS1 , Spider-Man 2 , Web of shadows , Shattered Dimensions, Ultimate was alright . Spider-man PS4 is the best sure , but i can’t agree that spider-man games haven’t hit some highs before with my personal favorites being Dimensions, Web of shadows, PS1, and Ultimate .
“ Expecting the Marvel's Spider-Man games to go on Xbox is expecting Halo to go on PS5 as well.”
Why ? Spider-man is licensed , halo is a M$ IP .
@EhronLocke What do people like you get from stating the obvious and saying absolutely nothing ?
@nomither6 We have had two games so far.
The Activision games post SM2 and Ultimate aren't great, WoS is ok but very overrated by fans despite its bland world and bad web swinging. The Amazing games range from ok to awful and while Shattered Dimensions is pretty good its sequel was cash grab bad. Marvel's Spider-Man is leagues above anything Activision put out not called SM2 or the two PS1 titles.
Sony own Marvel's Spider-Man, they created and funded that IP and own it. Spidey can appear elsewhere like MAU3 or Midnight Suns but the Marvel's Spider-Man games are Sony's like Halo is MS.
The people who want Spider-Man to 'not be taken hostage' simply don't understand business in any way. Look at the sales for the non-Insomniac Spider-Man games and compare them with Insomniac's. There - that alone is reason enough to keep them with the developer and that's before we even talk about quality.
People will fondly be talking about Insomniac's Spider-Man games for years to come - who will look back on Activision's Amazing Spider-Man games and say 'wow, what a couple of absolute classics! They don't make them like they used to'? No-one, obviously.
I just want the best games to be made - if that means Spider-Man is 'held hostage', so be it.
@WallyWest Web of Shadows is overrated i agree and thought the same thing the entire time i played it , but , still liked the story and tone of the game ; combat and switching between venom suit and regular suit was good too . A sequel would’ve done it justice with a better budget .
Dimensions is definitely better than Ultimate , Ultimate had a cooler story but the gameplay and world is very bland . If it wasn’t for the venom gameplay and plot… i don’t know .
Like i said spider-man ps4 is the best , but it has major flaws itself ; and other spider-man games do outclass it in areas. i’d argue people overrate PS4 because it’s definitely not better than arkham knight .
and Sony didn’t create spider-man dude , lmao . they just have the license , spider-man was having games and movies before sony
That was a really great trailer and I'm really looking forward to the movie. The part where all the Spiderman are pointing at each other was hilarious.
@EhronLocke apparently it is since i just told you .
are you done ?
@nomither6 I doubt they'd go back to Activision. Marvel was not happy with the quality of the games under them and ended their contract early. When Activision asked "what are you going to do with this IP?", Marvel said "I'm going to find a better home for it", and Activision said "Good luck finding your unicorn". Sony was their unicorn. They not only released an excellent game but it was extremely successful compared to the multiplat ones. Marvel has no reason not to keep licencing these games to Sony when it's mutually beneficial for both sides.
@Sam_ATLUS wow.
@TwoPieceTanookiSuit you picked one of the worst spiderman games to use as an example, but sure, i get it.
Yeah, Marvel was so displeased with Activision's handling of Spiderman, they actually bought their way out of the licensing contract to find another home for it. They went to Xbox first to offer it with exclusive rights, but Xbox turned it down. They went to Sony next and they accepted it; Sony tapped a then un-acquired Insomniac to handle the development. The deal is actually just for Marvel IPs in general, not just Spiderman (hence why they are also making Wolverine).
@Tr3mm0r I don't know one PS game on PC that was even close to that price. Most of playstation games can be had for $40 on launch. I paid $45 for the Last of Us remake. Even used the game is still like $55-60.
@WallyWest "Expecting the Marvel's Spider-Man games to go on Xbox is expecting Halo to go on PS5 as well."
People was saying the same thing about MLB the show. But the truth of the matter is Spider-Man is not the same at Halo. Sony will only get to keep Spider-Man exclusive as long as Disney is happy with Sony as Marvel Entertainment, LLC was folded into Disney 5 days ago, and the licensing deal can easily change when the renew period comes up.
Microsoft can buy Activision and Bethesda two of biggest publishers in the industry and a lot of you here ok with it. But Sony can’t have marvel exclusive games made by they’re studios. some of you guys let your bias show out in the open.
@nomither6 🙄They created the Marvel's Spider-Man IP as in the series of games called Marvel's Spider-Man made by Insomniac, that belongs to Sony and unless Sony say otherwise it will remain PS/PC exclusive. Spider-Man can still show up elsewhere it just won't be in the games Sony own.
@AverageGamer Difference is the Marvel's Spider-Man IP is held by Sony, Sony funds those games with zero input or money from Marvel/Disney. You're confusing one contract where Sony had clear restrictions and terms and another where Sony had more sway with. Marvel's Spider-Man will only hit Xbox or Nintendo if Sony wishes it, i'm 100% certain Sony would have made sure they had full control over these series of games to avoid such hassle. Your logic suggests Ubi could now publish the new Jedi Survivor if Disney says so, sorry but contracts don't work like that and there's usually clauses to avoid such a thing.
@WallyWest which was my whole point. i said "after" the sequel in my very first comment.
@WallyWest Like I said, it the same with MLB The Show. That is also a game created with no funding or input from the MLB originally. But if Sony wants to continue using the Marvel and Spider-Man name/character. They will also have to agree to Disney licensing or just lose rights to making the game all together.
"Your logic suggests Ubi could now publish the new Jedi Survivor if Disney says so, sorry but contracts don't work like that and there's usually clauses to avoid such a thing."
Where are you getting that my statement is the same as saying Ubi could now publish the new Jedi Survivor if Disney says so. My statement has nothing to do with bring another publisher into the fold or asking another company to develop the Marvel's Spider-Man IP for another platform.
My statement is that Disney can make Sony develop this game multiplatform while Sony keep full creative control and marketing rights of the IP. While Marvel just publishes the game for Xbox. Similar to how Sony have creative control and marketing rights to MLB The Show, but the MLB publish said game for Xbox.
These contracts aren't long term, and Sony will have to meet with Disney to renew them eventually, and terms can be changed. Which is probably why they bought Insomniac. They don't want to run into the eventual future where they lose the right, and another company grab the Spider-Man IP and Insomniac to develop another solo game.
EDIT: Sony knows it better to own the company rather than an IP. They learned this long ago when they lost Crash. Something Microsoft is struggling to realize since they should have kept Bungie, but they figured that owning the IP is all that matters.
@Neonix multiplat means ps/xbox/pc/switch
let me repeat the last two PC/SWITCH
i know xbox and playstation are stuck together like cat-dog but try and think outside the box.
either way, i get it already. you don't have to explain it to me after like 2 or 3 other people did.
@Neonix Sure they are happy now but remember that this is Disney. Disney is consistently changing their agreement with Spider-Man. Remember the whole 2019 issue, and Disney asking for a larger share of Spidey profits. Disney will find a way to have their cake (Sony and Insomniac making the games) and to eat it too (Going multiplatform)

@Neonix Never doubt a company who is changes copyright laws to fit them, a company who routinely strong arm other companies.
Like I also said earlier, Disney are cutting the people who was mostly responsible for licensing deals with Sony. So a different set of eyes are going be on licensing agreements going forward.
But who said I wanted Activision to make the games? I want Sony to continue making them, I would just rather they go multi platform like MLB.
@AverageGamer @AverageGamer I recently bought used Spider-man: Miles Morales Ultimate with unused code for Spider-Man Remastered for 22 dollars
@Swirly @GrandKaijuMaster20 @Coolmusic @BearsEatBeets @themightyant Movie trailer got me mega hyped! I'll be watching this opening weekend in theaters without a doubt.
Hopefully with some friends if I can convince them to go.
