Resident Evil 4's arcade Mercenaries game mode went live on Friday, and some fans think the update may have, intentionally or not, actually improved the game's framerate on PS5.
While the patch notes are quite sparse and don't specifically mention an increase in performance, we did get a fix for "a graphics rendering process which resulted in certain environmental details looking blurry".
Nevertheless, players in the PS5 subreddit are reporting a more consistent framerate in Resolution mode, which isn't something you hear every day. We'll need to wait and see if internet techno-wizards like Digital Foundry want to go back for a more in-depth analysis to learn the exact extent.
In other Resi 4 news, the remake has sold more than four million units in its first two weeks, and fans aren't loving the microtransactions introduced with the Mercenaries update.
Are you playing Resident Evil 4 on PS5, specifically in Resolution mode? How's your performance? Let us know in the comments section below.

I can confirm that the image quality and sharpness of background items and scenery on PS5 definitely improved after the update.
Yeah the image quality is massively improved and i agree the framerate feels better as well. Capcom pretty much fixed all the issues with the patch.
I was reading around supposedly this patch made things worse on Xbox
I don't know. I'm playing this with VRR the whole time, so it's very fluid even in Quality Mode. I will check the update today.
@Drago201 parity clause
"Inadverdantly" is probably not something you want to ever type in a serious article's title.
@Gaia093 Yeah, not only has he spelt it wrong, it doesn't even make sense here since there's no reason to think a patch improving the framerate was unintended or accidental.
Happy to hear! When I heard about the bad framerate I was concerned.
