State of Play Showcase Set for Thursday, Final Fantasy 16 the Focus

I appreciate the effort Sony and Square Enix, but I've seen more than enough. Feel like I've had plenty of things spoiled already!

I Want a showcase not a state of play. Give us a show that 1hour+.

This showcase feels particularly redundant compared to other marketing cycles. I can't imagine anyone interested in watching a State of Play isn't already interested in Final Fantasy 16. So it basically just splits the demographic into those who want to see more and those who have seen enough. I doubt it's gonna catch the attention of anyone not already in the know

I just don't really find myself interested in this one. Probably because of square's business practices lately. Just has me concerned the game will suffer from it in some way.

I Want to see the new games a showcase will show I have ff16 preordered.

They've already sold me on this, I'm pre ordered up and everything, might actually not watch much of it just to not see anymore.
I find the timing curious, 2 months away to do a big blowout on the game is a little early, or is it because they finally have a showcase in June and want to get this done before anything overshadows it!

I don't need to see more or be sold on the game. I'm already buying it day 1, but I guess I do appreciate how much they are putting behind the game. I would think doing this next month would make more sense instead of doing this almost two months ahead of release. Oh well, I won't be watching.

Lmfao well here we have another marketing deal committed showcase. We have seen and heard so much about this game already. Although I do think Square has yet to prove this is in any way an rpg, and I do think they claimed they were going to show rpg mechanics and explorstion at some point. So hopefully something beyond dmc combat and gimmicky godzilla battles would be nice to see. As I think this game still has a lot of skepticism from FF fans when you cut through the marketing hype fervor.

However Sony really needs to take time and reach out to fans on a first party front. This marketing deal only style of showcasing is getting old. Especially when it's largely all we have heard from Sony in 2, years.

@XenonKnight the showcase? I would guess a few reasons, don't overshadow exclusive FF16, stay out of Zelda Tears of the Kingdoms way, and mid Summer is usually when the big shows happen.
There's also a fair chance FF7 Rebirth is part whatever big event they might do so they're gonna have a lot of FF to showcase.

My hype for this is already the highest it can be and is my most wanted game this year above Zelda TOTK. But I also want to experience what the game has to offer and find things out for myself so I will most likely avoid this state of play.

I'm really excited for FFXVI but don't feel that excited for a State of Play for it when we've seen so much of the game the last few months. I'd rather have a State of Play showing Stellar Blade, Spider-Man 2 or anything else

Did it need its own state of play this late? Not really especially as the pax footage already showed plenty of gameplay. But sure as hell wouldve been the most hype part if it had just been a regular sop with multiple games

I think this would be received better if Sony just added an extra line or two saying “we know your waiting for information on other PlayStation games we will have something for you in the coming months” if people knew there was definitely a showcase soon think it would go a long way to help there poor communication recently

The first (and only) FF game I tried (XIII) I didn’t enjoy at all. I don’t think it’s for me so I haven’t bothered with any of the others.

Please tell me it pays more than homage to the 80s/90s Final Fantasy games! If it doesn't, just lie to me and tell me it does.

I pre-ordered the game. I don't want to watch this State of Play because I really want a fresh experience; however, I'll not resist.

With knowing how much Square spoils their games, I'm going to skip this. I'm already sold! I still can't believe how much they spoiled in the last FF7R trailer.

I was fairly hyped until I saw it was just a one game showcase, so maybe the show could end with a tease and date for the next actual showcase/state of play 😁

So IGN says they didn't know if there are other announcements. Did they actually announce its just a 20 minute deep dive of FF16?

@ItsBritneyB_tch depending on why you didn't like FF XIII you might like some of the others. There's a vocal contingent of people on the Internet who claim to be fans of this series that loudly loathe XIII.

@Jayslow this is nothing new, I believe the Western launch trailer for the original FF VII included a fairly major character death spoiler.

I hope they show other great games. I'm not interested in FF16. I'm still waiting for ff7 remake part 2. I might need to replay part 1 coz I forgot everything.

@ItsBritneyB_tch FF13 was also my first FF game. Was also my first rpg. And that's how I got into the genre. But every FF game is different. Has different combat and whatnot. I'd recommend trying FF7 remake. That's my favourite so far. If you don't like that, then maybe you won't like the others. Won't hurt to try.

@NEStalgia I think that's it - it just seems like just another story-driven third-person action game and not Final Fantasy. Maybe this Showcase will help change my opinion.

@FenIsMightier PC will have all those games that you mentioned. Just no Nintendo games. So would it not be better to get a pc?

Have it pre ordered. Looking forward to this. But I'd love an Indie state of play or 1st party instead.

Already sold on Ff16 it looks amazing and yes I will grab it 100%. I don't think this necessary personally. I tell you what tho...a showcase is absolutely NECESSARY and I mean a 1hr+ showcase revealing first party games all things playstation

@KaijuKaiser No, not necessarily. I've said all along it doesn't necessarily look like a bad game, my problem isn't the game itself is that they're calling a spinoff a mainline game. I don't like being manipulated and lied to. It looks like a pretty good spinoff game. Just don't tell me the cow is a cat.

@GamingFan4Lyf Exactly. I call it Dante of War: A Final Fantasy Story. Unless they surprise us with rpg reveals and they've just been trolling this whole time, it's just an action adventure narrative game after all

@CutchuSlow The remake is sort of an alternate timeline story. A major character did die in the original, it was a pivotal moment in gaming because major characters in video games don't die. But the remake, it may not happen, or another character might, it's going to be different events in the remakes timeline so none of us know this time!

Another state of play for a game I don't need any more convincing for? Wasted opportunity. The developer should just release a 5-10 minute gameplay overview trailer if they feel the need.
Please no acquisition unless the deal includes multiplatform releases. Why should I be happier if another camp gets less?

For those disappointed it's not a Playstation Showcase, a showcase is probably after May 22nd (EC decision day). Sony's share price will no doubt plummet if both the CMA and EC approve the Activision acquisition so in the outcome that does happen, the showcase would probably act to make share prices rebound.

I'll try and not watch it as i've had it pre ordered since it was first available.

Can see this being a GOTY contender.

Not going to watch. I know enough about the game to get it day 1 and I want to go in knowing as little as possible.

Probably skip. I'm sure FF16 will be a good game but I'm not super interested. I'm more interested in Rebirth. Plus that time is 100% SF6 time for me.

Whilst I'll concede that those of us who read these articles and are invested enough to comment here might not need any more convincing, I'm not sure SOP's are primarily aimed at us, and I imagine this might get the excitement levels rising for people who are not absorbing news 24/7.
I was watching happy console gamer last night, and though he cant wait for FF16 he commented that the hype levels among the 'less invested' are not as high as he thought they had been for previous main releases in the series. He's correct, and having things like this SOP will help that.
I'm happy to watch, but as I'm one of those who absorb this stuff all day long, I already know I want it bad

@CutchuSlow Apologies. With it being a ~25 year old game and so successful & influential, somehow avoiding the plot spoiler in question while having an interest in the series is something of an achievement. I will also add that while Remake is nominally an alternate-timeline retelling of the first four or 5 hours of the 1997 game, there are things in there that only make sense if you've completed the OG FFVII up to the post-credits scene.

Let's be real here we won't be getting any bigger showcases until the summer - it's too early to be showing off Fall 23 or 2024 games and summer is the blowout season. If we are really lucky we might get an indie showcase as there are some strong PlayStation indie titles coming out this summer like Enternights.

I feel like that presentation by Yoshi-P during PAX East already gave enough about FFXVI. I don't mind getting more from this SoP though. Only hoping a demo gets announced after this
