Tom Clancy's The Division Heartland is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter with extraction elements coming to PS5 and PS4, and we just got our best look yet at the game yet with a crash course in how to survive the under-siege rural town of Silver Creek.
Heartland is a PvPvE sandbox, meaning players can team up to take on other players or work together to earn gear and other rewards. In addition, AI-controlled enemies will further complicate matters, meaning you will want someone to watch your back.
On top of that is the inclusion of extraction-style gameplay elements, which, while popularised by PC titles like Escape from Tarkov, is something that has featured in the series' awesome Dark Zones since the first Division game launched. Heartland takes this mechanic and goes big with it, meaning other players might be eying that fancy new gun of yours.
We also saw the game's cinematic intro, which sets up the stakes quite nicely, and you can check it out below:
What do you think of The Division Heartlands so far? What do you think of the more rural setting? Let us know in the comments section below.

So far no game has able to do the extraction shooter right like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt Showdown. I don't expect Ubusoft to get it right but maybe I'm wrong.
Wasn't Vigor the first extraction type game on console? Get in, get stuff and get out. Didn't have AI though. Available on all consoles now.
@PegasusActual93 Amd there are developers that don't do it right like EA for example.
Does this has same bullet sponge enemies as other 2 division games?
@Nepp67 I mean... the Dark Zone has been integral to the IP for far longer than those games have existed.
Looking forward to this. Huge Division fan. Would prefer a Division 3 but this will do for now.
I thought this was a new game about the Division being captured. Haha.
Free the Division Heartland.
@Grimwood Halo 3 had the best and most fun multiplayer in human history. "Literally"
@Grimwood I don’t think I’ve ever heard Destiny’s shooting/gunplay described as being “beyond awful”. For me Destiny is the benchmark in that respect as it just feels so good to play but I wish I didn’t have to deal with a 10 year live service game to experience it!
They had the base of a great extraction game with The Survival DLC in The Division 1. Why they didn't port that to 2 has always really surprised me as it was excellent.
I love the series, just don't have friends who play it anymore.
Would love to see a third game in the series, back in New York or another City with the same sort of dark undertones.
"Nothing more boring than just PvE"
I've got over 500hrs on TD2. Family commitments mean I don't have time to research PvP builds, work out what's best etc etc. I'm older, my reflexes aren't what they were and honestly - dark zone etc doesn't interest me as getting slaughtered by randoms doesn't interest me. So I'm looking forward to Heartland and the PvE. If there is some only PvE of course!
The Division was ahead of its time with the Dark Zone, so it's a shame that the games themselves are so bland and boring.
Another crap PVPEVOPGPVRPVAPVS game
@THEH4MM I have the same feelings. First Division had its unique dark and snowy NY atmosphere, especially in the Survival mode. Second game was good as well, but just didn’t get me that much. No Survival, Dark Zone is just not dark… I hope Heartlands brings us something back from the first game, at least I have a good feeling from what I saw for now.
Isn’t this already in Warzone 2.0 now? I played like one game and deleted it from my hard drive.
@Grimwood Division has the best, tightest TPS feel on the market. GTFO of here with trying to claim otherwise.
@nessisonett You're thinking of their DMZ mode. That's COD's take on Tarkov/Hunt style gameplay, yes.
@PeteyPiranha To be fair, they said "mode." It is arguable someone likes the extraction mode, in and of itself, the best.
In terms of entire suite, Halo (one of them) probably does take the cake. And I'm not even a Halo fan. (My vote would probably go to UT2004 fwiw)
Tarkov at launch was innovative but I hope this game has actual updates and stops the blatant cheaters. The Tarkov team literally re-issuing a years old statement on addressing cheating and bugs was when I went from seldom playing it to removing it from my PC.
Zero interest in a multiplayer game, shame there's no story mode or single player campaign.
They had a similar mode in the first Division game and it was really good, tense etc. if this captures that feeling, ill definitely put a few hours in..
Yes vigor on consoles is probably first get in ,get materials then get our, alot of fun haven't played vigor in a while will get back to it shortly I think
Its popular yes but far from new..
@Loamy Later in the year they are updating the engine for Hunt and if it is successful then we can expect a Ps5 and XSX upgrade as stated by the devs.
thats fine but it is free to play. it means digitally game.
