Gaming fans always speculate whether titles are delayed in order to get out of the way of heavy hitters, but never has a team been quite so upfront about that being the case as Frictional Games. Having already been delayed once, Amnesia: The Bunker will now arrive a week later than planned in order to get out of the way of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's now out for PS4 on 23rd May 2023.
In a press release, it's said the studio is "carefully timing the release to avoid a week packed with awesome titles from other talented studios. This thoughtful decision means you can fully immerse yourselves in each amazing gaming experience, without feeling overwhelmed." With an original release date of 16th May 2023, Amnesia: The Bunker was going to launch four days after Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, three days before LEGO 2K Drive, and two weeks after Microsoft exclusive Redfall. Now you can enjoy all these titles one week after another.
The additional development time will also allow Frictional Games to give the horror experience a bit more polish. This will ensure "everything is absolutely perfect for you when it launches". Does this delay allow you time to play Amnesia: The Bunker? Plan out your playtime in the comments below.

Mostly different audiences, but still probably a good call.
I'll skip Amnesia not because of Zelda, but because I'm a big old scaredy cat.
Tears of the Kingdom and Final Fantasy though.
This is going to be a good summer đ
Still no explanation for the lack of a PS5 version?
These days, a week is not enough
@Shstrick I mean although audiences wouldnât really overlap, media traction is very important. IGN or Gamespot or general media will very likely be swarmed in positive Zelda news around the time, drowning out other games (same reason why imo Redfall should be delayed)
@KaijuKaiser
Bought a switch for BOTW, I have never been more disappointed to not like a game as much as everyone else.
@KaijuKaiser I always laugh at how people think their opinions are fact.
@KaijuKaiser I enjoyed the game but weapon breaking was a reason I didn't finish it and the last of traditional dungeons. I may get this one but way down the line.
Required accessibility option - increase font size. add that in and youâll be good with polish.
@KaijuKaiser If BotW has a bland open world than what about games like Assassin's Creed and Horizon? lol
@Shstrick Yes and no. The problem is Zelda has such a massively wide userbase, it basically competes and obliterates any genre's potential for sales.
If I have only $60 bucks to spend on games for a month, you can be your ass most people will only spend it on the heavy hitters of the month and leave anything more niche or smaller in size to "wait for reviews or a sale"
Horizon Burning Shores is probably going to get similarly unlucky. And while I'm incredibly excited for both it and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (pre-ordered both), it's pretty obvious Zelda is going to canibalize its sales yet again.
Horizon just can't catch a lucky break lol, same thing happened when Zero Dawn released days before Breath of the Wild. While Forbidden West only kept of the trend by releasing days before Elden Ring. I'm betting Horizon 3 will debut the same month GTA6 will lol.
Nice, more than enough time to 100% TOTK.
@Sarxion I was thinking Amnesia is targeting more adults while Zelda is targeting a younger audience, but now that Iâm thinking about it a bit deeper I think youâre right. Zelda is kind of an âeveryone plays thisâ type of game. Iâm 32 and I prioritize Zelda games over everything else.
Absolutely agreed on Horizon. Sony should probably wait for Nintendo to announce the release date for the next Zelda before announcing a date for Horizon 3 đđ . Just give Zelda a 3-6 month birth.
@WallyWest And sometimes their opinions are fact. BOTW absolutely is overrated.
@mariomaster96 no argument with Asscreed. It is bland. Horizon, though, has robot dinosaurs instantly making it great.
Burning Shows, Zelda ToTK AND FFXVI back to back is going to destroy every single moment of free time I have. I like the Amnesia games, but yeah delaying away from Zelda is the right call even if I'll still not pick it up right away I'll at least remember it exists come my regular cravings for spooky games.
@Ambassador_Kong You don't understand what an opinion is.
I havenât played Zelda, I donât own a switch, so am unsure why itâs popular - it looks like it has fairly dated graphics, and continues the same open world game play that many non switch games have done for years.. so I presume the story must be outstanding?
@mariomaster96
I actually liked Horizon Zero Dawn better than Breath of the Wild and thought the world was more interesting and fun to explore. Also preferred the combat and story. Just thought it was a better all-around game. That out of the way, when it comes to Forbidden West, can't say I'd disagree with you. For whatever reason I couldn't get into that game at all and right now it stands as the most disappointing release on PS5 for me given how much I love the first game. Didn't care for the story and didn't have nearly as much fun with the open world. Just didn't click. It's possible I have open world burnout as plenty of others in the genre have bored me the last few years.
@Gamer83 Yeah, I didn't like HFW either and yes I assume all those samey feeling open world games might be partially at fault. If HFW released in 2018 or something I might have liked it but after playing games like HZD, AC: Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla, Ghost of Tsushima etc I've grown tired of them.
Couple that with other problems of HFW like Aloy constantly talking/telling me what to do, the dialogs etc and it really didn't make a good game to me
@pyrrhic_victory No explanation at all. Hopefully it'll just be a delayed free update later.
