The release of the eagerly anticipated sequel Alan Wake II could be sooner than fans might think, if a potentially careless comment from the game's principal voice actor is anything to go by.
On an episode of the Monsters, Magic and Madness podcast (at about the 16:37 mark), Matthew Poretta, who voices the titular character of Alan Wake in the sequel, stated that it's "supposed to come out in October". The full exchange, for more context (thanks, Gematsu), went like this:
MMM Podcast: "One of my all-time favourite games is Alan Wake. So when it comes to your voice acting work, is that something that happened naturally through working, or is it something you made an effort to pursue?"
Mathew Poretta: "I’ve been working on it—that’s supposed to come out in October. We’re in the middle of working on it now. In fact, I was just in Finland last week. That’s where the company’s from—Remedy—amazing people."
Now, it's worth noting that we already knew developer Remedy was targeting a 2023 release date on PS5, but this latest comment has potentially narrowed things still further.
So there you have it, obviously not the official line from Remedy, but this would hardly be the first time a voice actor has prematurely spilt the beans on an upcoming release. Do you believe that Alan Wake 2 is coming out in October, perhaps around Halloween? Sounds good to us. Shine a light on the matter in the comments section below.

Alan Wake was one of my favourite games back on the 360 and it was so good to see it get the remaster treatment on PS4/5 for PlayStation fans that missed out on it first time around! I can’t wait to play the second one. Hopefully more light will be shed on its release date at the Sony Showcase this week!!
Most anticipated game of the year...can't wait!
That’s sort of when I anticipated it to come out, to be honest. Seems like a Halloween title
@Khayl @somnambulance October 2023 would be perfect timing, hopefully it's announced at Wednesday's showcase, set for October, and doesn't get delayed once.
Only downside is that Assassin's Creed: Mirage is also rumored to release in October 2023....hopefully that game gets delayed to November or later.
@BeerIsAwesome It was first revealed at the Game Awards if I'm not mistaken.
@KidRyan potential September / October releases: AC: Mirage, Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2 🤤
Wake me up when September comes
I just played through Control again, this time the PS5 version. It’s honestly one of my favorite games of the past few years, largely because of the lore. I still haven’t gotten around to Alan Wake but I really do need to. There are parts of Control and of course the AWE DLC that’ll make more sense to me once I’ve played Alan Wake.
If they give this a release date on PS showcase I will lose my s***
@BeerIsAwesome I think they revealed the remaster of the first one in their State of Play. Maybe that's why you made that connection.
Oh please.i want to hang out with Barry again. I'm gonna replay all my copies of this game PC ,Xbox and playstation hopefully be save migration. Can't wait been soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Long😂
@KidRyan I dunno if I’d bet on Alan Wake being announced at the Sony Showcase. This is probably Geoff Keighley’s announcement, but who knows? We will find out about Mirage in the Ubisoft showcase, I’m sure. I’m also looking forward to that one as well. For me, I’d probably buy them both regardless, but would also probably tackle Alan Wake first. But seriously I need to know the release schedule for the second half of the year, so I can make a budget. Lol.
@theMEGAniggle Haha I know right? We're gonna be eating good if those dates are true.
I'm honestly looking forward to Alan Wake II the most, out of those two October games. Also Spidey 2 in September of course .
@somnambulance Exactly! We know nothing about what's coming beyond July, besides a few random games...

@KidRyan we're in for a treat this year
@theMEGAniggle @KidRyan For some reason, I think there’s going to be another big surprise game due out before the end of the year as well. Not sure what, but I’ve got a feeling.
@somnambulance my money is on Factions dropping this year
@theMEGAniggle We've already been eating good this year too.
Hogwarts Legacy, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Wild Hearts, RE4 Remake, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen order, Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC etc.
2023 is definitely looking to be the strongest year for overall gaming releases.
@somnambulance Maybe a Director's Cut release of The Last of Us: Part II, releasing beside Factions? Or as a bundle.
@KidRyan director's cut would make sense tbh. Cash in on TLOU TV show. That would make 2 TLOU releases in 2 years.
Its wild because before the year started I always saw this year as a banger but I haven't had the time to enjoy all those games yet so I've just seen it as another okay year. But you're right, in reality it's been spectacular.
@theMEGAniggle There's also the possibility we'll just get 1 game this year, with the other releasing next year.
Regarding a potential The Last of Us 3, I don't see that releasing until 2025 at the earliest. Unless we get both TLOU2 DC and Factions this year, then 3 could drop in 2024.
Same here tbh, I've been slacking on gaming alot. I'm still playing thru Hogwarts Legacy very slowly, and haven't touched my copy of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or played thru Horizon Forbidden West + Burning Shores yet.
@KidRyan I think regarding TLOU 3 we'll see ND's new IP first. Then hopefully another few years until the third game. The writers strike might be doing them a favour with not needing to rush out the game before season 3 drops. Obviously season 2 still to come but will it be a 1 game fits in a season type thing or split across multiple seasons.
I know I certainly am not in the minority, love TLOU but there's just been too much. A break is well needed, as well as a different project from ND for us to all enjoy
@theMEGAniggle I keep forgetting about the new IP, would it awesome if it was Savage Starlight (the comic Ellie reads).
The current WGA writers strike only impacts Hollywood movies and tv shows, it has zero impact on video game writers/jobs.
They've already confirmed that Part 2 will be split into 2 seasons.
@KidRyan yeah that's what I'm saying. Re-read what I wrote. If the show is delayed due to the writers strike then there is no rush for then to get the third game out before the season that portrays it releases.
And that's good because there's no way part 2 can fit into 10 episodes of television. Would be cool to see ND do sci-fi. That savage starlight rumour has been going since like 2014
@somnambulance The surprise games turned out to be both Alan Wake II and Assassin's Creed: Mirage releasing in October.
@theMEGAniggle Oh my bad, sorry for misreading! Makes sense now.
I haven't played Part 2 yet, but I imagine they'll have Season 2 end around the halfway point of the game.
Naughty Dog developing a Sci-Fi game would be amazing. They clearly have alot of talent and could pull it off. Even if it doesn't turn out to be Savage Starlight, I'd still play the new IP.
@KidRyan The surprise for me was that I’m not buying anything I wasn’t planning to buy before the showcase! Lol. Alan Wake and AC both had leaked release dates before the showcase too.
