In case you aren't aware, Backbone — a company producing smart phone cradles that give them tactile controls — unveiled and released the Backbone One: PlayStation Edition last year. Fundamentally identical to the regular device, this version of the accessory sports DualSense-like design and is the best way to enjoy Remote Play on your smart phone of choice. Well, as long as it was an Apple phone. Not any longer, though, as the Backbone One: PlayStation Edition for Android phones is now available for purchase.
As mentioned, you place your phone in the centre of the device, plugging it in via the charging slot. From there, you can access the PS Remote Play app and enjoy all your favourite PS5 and PS4 games as if you were using a shiny new PlayStation handheld. You can do this with the normal Backbone One, too, but this one has that officially licensed PlayStation branding, which is neat.
The accessory comes with a Backbone app, which acts like a catch-all for everything gaming on your mobile. That includes PS Remote Play, but it's also just a great control method for compatible mobile games.

As mentioned, Backbone One: PlayStation Edition for Android is available right now with an SRP of $99.99. It's also more widely available, as well. In the US, you can buy the Android or Apple versions direct from Backbone, but they're also coming to Best Buy, Target, and Amazon. Elsewhere, you can get the device in Canada, Latin America, throughout Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. These locations will soon be joined by Asian markets, including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

I’ve heard the android remote app works much better than the iOS one. If so then I might have to switch phone when my contract is up. Perhaps then I’ll get one of these. Not worth it currently with the quality of the iOS version.
Then again, if the claims of the portable ps remote play device is true then isn’t worth wait for that?
As I’m only interested in Yakuza and VR currently though it might not get much use…
I already had a Razer Kishi that I got for just $30, but the remote play app doesn't support it. Fortunately, the excellent PSPlay app solved that problem. It works better than PlayStation's official app. I can live without the PS branding. Now, if only I actually had a use for remote play...
I got the razor kishi but just wish they aligned the analogue sticks like a playstation controller. I don't understand why this branded one is like this
I have one but don't use it much. Streaming is hit and miss outside of my home, and it's kind of hard on the eyes for most of the games I play.
Offset sticks are a disgrace on a PlayStation product
Finally! Spent nearly a year waiting for Android support, but I just bought the Logitech g cloud with the PS play app which works perfectly.
@MeatyVeg Absolutely - had this come with symmetric sticks, I might have been interested. Otherwise, I might as well buy a Switch.
Where can I get one, been waiting for this beauty... 😁
But if it’s just running the normal remote play app won’t it be a laggy ****show like it usually is
While I have little interest in mobile gaming I do question the design and cost of this product. It costs more than a DualSense? Then there is asymmetrical sticks instead of the symmetrical sticks playstation users are accustomed to using. Some for over 20 years.
I wish sony would bring out a portable ps4.
You need fast internet for this to be viable. I've run PS4 Remote Play to my Steam Deck, and it works well enough but the resolution regularly drops significantly enough that I didn't want to do it beyond testing it out. For reference, I have 50mbps, which is fast for the rural area I live in.
Is it me or does:
1. Having to switch on your PS5 and have the right disc in the machine whenever you want to play a pain!
2. Have an unlimited data plan to play it your away from home Wi-Fi, else you’ll be using 100Gb in now time and draining your battery soo fast!
3. Paying £99 for the experience above crazy!
Am I missing something?
Backbone One Android Release + nonsensical PS App controller support update + PS Direct this week = mobile PS+ game streaming coming this week?
Will get this if they don't announce the rumoured proprietary cloud device in the showcase tomorrow.
Definitely expect an upgrade to PS Streaming soon, between this and the rumoured dedicated handheld
This is a cool thing, but I can also do the same thing on my Steam Deck.
@NoCode23 It's because of licensing. All of these attach-on designs are required to pay a sum to license from a company which I regard as Patent Trolls named Game Vice. The same applies with the 'Elite' controllers with extra paddles or buttons on the back, where one of the reasons why they cost so much is because the company SCUF patented the back-paddle/button design so everyone who wants to create one needs to pay a hefty licensing fee.
The official Xbox controller version the sticks are not in the right spot.
Took them long enough, anyone who hasn't pulled the trigger on this yet should look at the Retroid Pocket 3 or 3+ though, roughly the same price and it's a full standalone Android device. Also the sticks are in the right spot lol.
Finally the wait for Android is over
