While we personally weren’t expecting to see anything from Bend Studio during this week’s PS Showcase, plenty of fans were disappointed by the general lack of PS Studios titles during the event. This has no doubt spilled onto social media, where company accounts are presumably getting bombarded by fans asking for updates on their upcoming projects. (Even this author is guilty when it comes to The Last of Us Factions!)
Kevin McAllister, the community manager at the Days Gone developer, picked up on the mood and shared his response, presumably also partially fuelled by comments made by ex-game director Jeff Ross: “Social media is a wonderful space to interact with people and share each other’s passion,” he started. “It can also be a difficult space due to misinformation and false hope. Silence is usually the key, but [I’m not gonna lie] it’s hard. All I can say is we’re hard at work to make the best Bend game yet.”
He continued: “This is the finest group of individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. The culture, support, trust from top down, makes me incredibly proud to be here. The next generation of Bend Studio is here, buckle up.” We know that, while Bend Studio’s next project won’t be a sequel to Days Gone, it will build upon some of the systems and ideas introduced in that game. Obviously it’s going to take some time to cook, though.
To be honest, we’re not all that concerned by Bend Studio’s absence from the PS Showcase, as there are other developers we would have expected to see ahead of the Oregon-based outfit. It’s good to hear that McAlister is excited about the project, though, and we’re obviously looking forward to getting our first taste of the title in the future.

How do they know it's their best game? AI?
@KaijuKaiser The diplomat in me likes to thread a middle line in these discussions for the sake of empathy and hearing the views of all sides.
Even so, and while I wouldn't have used your exact words, as I was reading your comment I found it very difficult to stop myself from thinking, "Yep. Yep.
Absolutely right. Absolutely nailed it."
Edit: That's not to dismiss anyone with a constructive concern of course.
Proof, or I call BS.
Iam very glad that they are working on something.
@KaijuKaiser I think most people who were not exactly thrilled by the showcase are most concerned by the lack of anything post-2023. Showcases are supposed to show a bit of what’s down the road, not just what’s coming out within months. And for that reason, I thought last night was disappointing to say the least.
I’m pumped for whatever they’ve got cooking.
@itsfoz Well its funny that you mention this because I like more thinking of what Playstation might have in store for us in the future. Iam bit confused why many people seemed to had such high hope this showcase. I mean its only May.
N.i.c.e.days gone is a really good game.cant wait to see what the next game is going to be.sony got so many studios working on unnanounced games.word up son
@Kidfried
We can't be that far off from hearing what they're working on. Days Gone came out 4 years ago. I am excited to see what it is
Please tell me I'm not the only one that giggles whenever I hear that Kevin McAllister is in charge of community management. Glad the trauma of the robberies and all from his youth are in the past.
You didn’t expect to see anything?
Sony Bend is the AAA team that released a game longest ago compared to all of the other AAA Sony studios and should have something ready to release very soon based on dev time.
Should have just shown a cgi trailer :/
Didn't they say a while ago they wanted to use the tech foundation from Days Gone and build their next project with it? Obviously another zombie game would make sense. The crowd tech just works with hordes of zombies.
But if they're committed to that tech, how ELSE could that be used? What other enemy (or ally) would make sense?
In other words: their next game will have swimming. 😅
Just give us a logo of the game title and a vague release date, everyone else does...
@Kidfried
Funny you say this, in retrospect, for me the two most memorable first party games of the PS4 Gen were Days Gone and Infamous Second Son. Never got play on the later, might give it another run one of these day.
Yea yea I loved Spider-Man, but for some reason it didn’t engrave itself as much in the back of my mind as these two. Unlike most people, I was not that crazy on God of War.
@OmegaStriver Sony bend spent a few years working as a support studio after Days Gone such as helping naughty dog with last of us 2.
Whatever project their working on, is still probably in its early stages.
Tbh i cant see much past Final Fantasy 16 at the moment. That is going to keep me busy for a while, so i hope Bend take the time they need to cook up something special
@KaijuKaiser I feel like maybe you’re misunderstanding why people are upset? People wanted to see what PS Studios games were coming as Sony has been silent as a mouse for going on two years.
Sony did not do anything to let people know what first party games are coming/in the works. They showed Spider-Man 2 which we knew about and a couple live service MP games but the big studios including ND which shockingly doesn’t have anything to show on Factions was absent.
I have not seen anyone complaining they have nothing to play which you pointed out.
@KaijuKaiser you're the typical low standard consumer, as long they give you marvel you will suck it all up and call it a game, when in reality these aren't even games to begin with.
People like you poisoned the PlayStation brand I hope you're happy, I'm PlayStation old school player and yesterday they didn't even show 1 single game that pleased me, you know I have more high standards compared to you and your similar.
Give them the benefit of the doubt. Take all the time they need to make a great game. With how many games coming out unfinished recently, it's good that some devs are taking their time to cook their games. 2023 is already packed with games as it is and should keep many of us busy anyway
@Tharsman I came to Days Gone late but with the silky smooth 60fps on PS5 and no bugs to speak of, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's in my top zombie genre games ever with Last of Us 1+2, certain Resident Evil games, Dead Rising and Dying Light 1. The hordes are still incredible to see in action.
@KaijuKaiser so true I agree on everything you said.
@FatalBubbles Fine be disappointed I think that's fair, but attacking people on social media because a game didn't show up ain't it.
@VirtualPunk Why exactly does your "Taste" outweigh somebody else?
Days Gone was great. Really looking forward to what they'll bring next.
Sooo, reveal at Summer Games Fest?
@KaijuKaiser I don't even believe you.
@VirtualPunk people like you make gamers look like a bunch of self indulged fart inhalers.
@KaijuKaiser Harassing? You call "harassment" even the ones with constructive criticism?
Watch it be another stupid live service fame
@pharos_haven I don’t see me supporting that? Social media is the cesspool of humanity and should be gone.
People get mad when they don't hear news.
People get mad when the news they hear isn't what they wanted.
People get mad when games are announced far, far in advance.
People get mad when games are delayed.
People get mad when games are released before they're finished.
People get mad when studios make sequels that look too much like the last game.
People get mad when studios make sequels that change the formula too much.
It feels almost like a miracle anybody likes anything. I think we've forced studios to go silent, because the less they say the less people can dump on them.
People need to let them cook. Obviously a lot of these studios are hard at work in developing games.
@RobN they complain no matter what
@Eh-Locke and people like you are killing more genres to please your s**tty taste in games, the only games you want is the marvel ones.
@RobN imagine if they showed games that pleased me, I bet most of the "the show was good" folks would bash it 24/7 probably they would sell their PlayStation 5.
@KaijuKaiser if you're being serious, you standard have been lowered.
Sadly this could just be crowd control PR talk, I'll believe it when they announce their next game.
Let's hope it's the much anticipated Bubsy sequel.
@VirtualPunk Yes, me owning 3 Marvel games out of the hundred+ titles in my library is REALLY killing the industry, VirtualPunk@$$.
It’s a good thing there’s people like you in the PS comment sections to remind us why we shouldn’t take gaming so seriously and that there’s more to life than being just a fart inhaler such as yourself.
Keep up the good work!
@Eh-Locke Considering the account was made like yesterday and just proceed to start bashing other people tastes smells like troll to me
@pharos_haven I’m sorry you are close to enough to pick up that foul stench. He is a fart inhaler so that may be why he smells so bad.
@BeerIsAwesome I think they meant that the game on the ps5 will be their best game to date, not that it'll be their best ps5 game,
@BeerIsAwesome ahh I see👍
So it's days gone 2 right ? Right ?
Days Gone was a great game.
Just hope whatever the studio are doing isn't multiplayer trash.
Is it me or does it feel like Sony is plotting. I don't think Thursday is the last we have heard from Sony this summer.
Coming from the company that turned round when people said after playing the game free they wanted DG2. just says "***** off you should have bought the game"
