If you followed the dramatic story of Aiden Jackson and Devon Butler in F1 2021 story mode Braking Point, then you’ll be excited to learn it’s making a return in EA Sports F1 23. We were clinging to every word of the plot relayed by reviewer Stephen Tailby at the time, and we’re looking forward to hearing more about the twists and turns set to take place in this year’s version!
“The return of Braking Point allows players to immerse themselves in a racing story, which provides a unique look at F1 alongside the authentic race features our players know and love,” Codemasters’ Lee Mather beamed. “Our close relationship with the teams has allowed us to refine our handling model, adding greater realism to pad-play, and implementing a new colour encoding system used in film and TV creates a more true-to-life experience.”
As above, the developer says it’s used real-life F1 team feedback to improve vehicle physics, providing a “greater balance between aerodynamics and tyre grip results in a more realistic feel”. It also claims that a new controller technology named Precision Drive will “give pad players better control and confidence in those crucial race moments”.
A full reveal is planned for 3rd May at 4PM BST, but the publisher has revealed that current World Champion Max Verstappen will front the digital-only Champions Edition of the game, while Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, and Charles Leclerc will headline the bog-standard physical release. The simulation racer’s due out on 16th June, although the Champions Edition will come out three days earlier.

Indeed, F1 22 did not have story.
@Thrussted @Stormageddon My bad, I'll correct that. (These years blur together!)
Thanks for pointing it out!
Typically I avoid ea like the plague but since codemasters are with them I have little choice,I hope the inclusion of a "story" doesn't detract from the most important aspect of racing games..racing!
I really enjoyed Braking Point so this will sway me towards a new one.
Devon Butler is basically a legacy character at this point, I remember wanting to rear end him in one of the PS4 games. And not even euphemistically, I legit wanted his pretty boy arse to be scraped off the Monte Carlo pavement.
Hope it will support PSVR2. But I really doubt it.
I rather would have seen Verstappen on the cover seeing he won the championship I know he is on the digital only release but whats the use with that.
@Ernimus_Prime That’s what I am hoping for. I like the F1 games, but I’m a bit burned out on them now. PSVR2 support would solve that for me.
I'd like a return to good old fashioned f1 racing without some needless tacky, woke as hell storyline tacked onto it to make it appeal to the youth of today. I'm from the generation that grew up watching the hunts, laudas, prosts and sennas...not these drama queens that race today..
Either next-gen graphics engine (not likely, or they would have hyped it to death already), PSVR2 (doubtful, but possible?), or I will pass this year.
After last years piss poor attempt and given I’m not into Braking Point, I’m going to need something more substantial to purchase this year.
I used to buy it every year but not anymore. GT7 is perfectly acceptable.
@Flaming_Kaiser don’t they normally do regional variant covers? I recall Stroll being in the cover of the Canadian release a couple of years ago. Maybe he’ll be on the cover on copies released in Netherlands?
Last "braking point" was awful. Story was ok, but what the point in a. Racing game, where you only do parts of a race, and have pre determined issues, breakdowns, crashes etc.
I really hope we get a much more dynamic one, with multiple pathways, dependant on your approach. Win and listen to what is asked, happy team and team mate... Ignore calls for early pits, or to let your team mate past, and you get an annoyed team mate not willing to let you past and who will aggressively try to over take you.
Cut scenes can then show in the in paddock drama and how those interactions change.
Just something like that would be fine. I don't mind if we get a version of drive to survive, but just let me bloody race in a game I bought so I could race
F1 21 Breaking point was new and very well integrated I think. They can firther improve it by adding more choices and possible paths. Maybe having more options to run longer races or just the minimal required for the story.
Also it needs to be something you can replay
Does anyone think we'd ever get an F1 game in the same vein as EA's F1 Career Challenge or even Codemaster's F1 2012?
Career Challenge was really interesting, as it had 4 seasons (1999 - 2002), with actual and updated teams and circuits for each of the 4 seasons. I find that with current F1 games, once you've finished the initial season of F1 20XX, that's basically it. Moving onto the next season, it already feels outdated and unrealistic.
With F1 2012, I enjoyed the Champions Challenges (or whatever they were called). I remember struggling to beat the first challenge (Finish ahead of Kimi Raikkonen at Spa driving the Williams FW34).
I'd like the current F1 games to incorporate challenges similar to F1 2012, based either on the current season (with it being updated after the game's release) or on past seasons.
The last F1 game I played was F1 2016. I remember playing through the Career Mode (with Sauber F1) and when I reached Baku, I realised that I wasn't having any fun with Career Mode, and just stopped playing. I sold the game shortly afterwards and waited until Gran Turismo Sport was released for my racing fix.
Meh.

@Northern_munkey I can't believe I'm falling for this trap, but in what possible way is this game "woke" in any way?
@bozz typical nonsensical dog-whistling
@bozz dont worry yourself.
Great news.
Love these games. Always jump on during F1 race weekend. If it gets PSVR2 support it will make my day.
The last Braking Point story was a fun novelty but for me the nuts and bolts of the game is the career and myteam modes. Sadly, much like Fifa, these modes seem to be of secondary importance. I'd love for myteam to be more in depth but I don't think I'll get my wish anytime soon.
PSVR2 support is the only thing that interests me. Can only hope.
Like mentioned by others - I will preorder (not something I normally do!) for PSVR2 support!
It is sad Max won't be shining on my shelf. It is dehonesting to have cover without champion...
But Braking point may force me to buy it this year...
No psvr2 mode no buy
@eagletrippin everything that's not PSVR2 mode is trash. After playing GT7 in VR it's clear that the PS5 can handle a proper racing game in VR.
@Arkham24601 Im not the biggest Hamilton fan and im Dutch but we will see but Verstappen on the Dutch cover would be really cool.
