After many months of rumours and speculation, Konami has finally announced a full remake of PS2 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is in the works. It will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The news was shared during Sony's PlayStation Showcase, and you can catch the first look above. A release date was not announced.
The official name is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. "A new generation of players and loyal fans alike can experience the origin story of the famed Big Boss, and witness how his legend was forged in the crucible of Operation Snake Eater," said Konami. The company says it's a "faithful remake" featuring the original voice actors.
This is the first we've seen of the Metal Gear Solid franchise since 2018 spin-off Metal Gear Survive. Before that, it was Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which also marked the exit of series creator Hideo Kojima from Konami. He has since gone on to develop Death Stranding for PS5, PS4, and PC. A sequel is also being produced.

And remasters of the old games, yeah babyz let's gooo
Noticed on the announcements of the original 3 coming to PS5, it said Volume 1, is MGS 4 going to be freed.
More excited for the originals being rerererererereleased.
Genuinely full on gasped when snake appeared
It finally happened
I'm genuinely shocked
So glad it's true 😁
The worst kept secret but this made my year!! Between the remakes and remasters I'm one happy bunny right now 😁
sorry, i don't trust virtuos... they are unproven. this project is beyond them and i doubt kojima is even going to have an advisory role here. i'll follow this with a high degree of sceptisism. glad the cat is finally out of the bag, though, even if we are waiting years to see how it shakes up.
Just need confirmation of David Hayter returning now.
MGS3 remake with MGS 1,2 and 3 ports to modern console? Sign me up!
What a thrill indeed. I’m actually watching this showcase at work since we are dead slow. And it’s very mid so far. But MgS3 Remake made me smile.
@Porco
So long as they keep to the original script and update the controls a bit I don’t think they can screw it up.
Basically just keep the plot, script, and voice actors the same. Then add MGSV’s control scheme. Highest end visuals possible.
I think they can do this so long as they follow those rules.
@Golem25 kept you waiting huh?
Classic move not remaking the one most in need. Studios are so dumb. Glad we can at least get the first one with trophies finally.
Not exactly a good sign when this was one of the best reveals at the event
This is coming to PC too. I was worried for a sec
I kinda don't get the point. It isn't Kojima and we're still getting the original.
Metal Gear Solid Triangle: Snake Eater
Interesting that they removed the number, unlike Silent Hill 2.
Kept you waiting, huh?
It's the thing everyone saw coming but by god it looks cool. Very excited for this (though I'm not gonna lie: that new collection is infinitely more interesting to me XD).
Anyone know the proper name to this? Is it MGS A? I don't know how to pronounce that symbol after the title.
N.i.c.e.more metal gear is always welcome.word up son
Impressive, it's the best in the series so it's a welcome remake 👍👍
@Ashina so 1&2 are just ports? Meh I would rather play twin snakes and metal gear solid 2 substance stand alone anyways
I guess 3 is the highlight in this case
David Hayter as Snake or not? Kiefer Sutherland was a huge downgrade in MGS 5.
@OrtadragoonX agreed. this will have to be a true 1:1 remake with no deviation whatsoever for it to have a chance. that is both, a blessing and a curse, though. this game is close to 20 years old now and would have benefited from some quality of life updates, not just with the controls, but perhaps with the mechanics and even some of the design scenario and movie direction (as much as i like the original). the problem is, those types of changes are ill advised without kojima's involvment so they are a no-go.
but yes, the closer they are to the original game, the more likely this turns out being passable... it's just that, it could have been much more than passable with a studio like bluepoint involved and kojima as an advisor at the very least. we shall see!
Very nice visuals but who is remaking it? I ho early didn’t understand.
As a lifelong Metal Gear fan, count me in!!!
Fingers crossed they're using delta in the sense of change and this represents the start of a much less rathouse crazy timeline than we originally got with Kojima.
Count me in too, I've been waiting for this for way too long.
Snake kept us waiting, huh?
Your sooooo supreeeeeeeme!
Confirmed for PC and the Xbox series.
Metal Gear Solid was the only game in the series that I played and beaten. I just decided to give it a chance when it was released in a collection along with 2 and the PSP game. I enjoyed it so I’m getting the remake.
Cloth physics have come a long way in the last 20 years, so I see no reason why snakes bandana looks like it was glued to his scowling forehead... just saying
Also, does the triangle instead of the 3 mean they're going to remake/reboot the series chronologically?
Is it true really that its all the original voice actors? No way!! David Hayter yes!!!!!!! Had a look on there website and nothing said about it being original voice actors.
CGI trailer from this particular company was not the vibe. The whole thing feels kinda gross, but for the sake of the fans, I hope it turns out all right.
@AliceInChains Nobody seems to be mentioning this, which I think is weird. At 1:15:16 of the official Sony video, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 - "Sneak back into the original games on PlayStation 5 Autumn 2023" - It's only on the screen for a second or two, blink and you might miss it. And the official trailer for the remake cuts it out.
Apparently includes the first three games, presumably running in emulation?
That trailer looked... not good. Also, no developer attached yet. Konami trying to do a Capcom with the mysterious introduction, but wth was that? Snake Eater was god-tier for me, so I really hope they don't mess this up
The fact they just randomly put this in the middle of the conference has me a little concerned.
Glad I never played that third instalment 🤗 it’ll be new game to me!
Even has a cheesy James Bond-esque theme song.
Why didn't they remake the original Metal Gears games? The two that need it.
IIIIIIIIM STIIIIIILLL IN A DREAAAAAAM SNAKE EATEEEEEEER!!!
I know it's just a cinematic trailer, but definitely more hyped now.
@Feena https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtuos
They don't have much experience, but hopefully this turns out to be the game that makes them popular.
Well, if there’s anything the PS5 showcase taught me, it’s that old games being remastered or remade is likely going to excite me more than authentically new games.
Best trailer of the night, but really curious about the game. Will Kojima be involved? My god, please let Kojima be at Keighley’s event…
@Porco after MGS5 and Death Stranding... I think the only ones we need to worry about returning are the voice actors.
Awesome news. Iam so very glad for this
Super excited news.
Not getting my hopes up - this is Konami, after all.
LETS GO!!!!!!! So excited for this, best news of PS5 era yet!
@Amusei They are just re-releases of the ps one MGS, MGS 2 hd collection version, snake eater he collection version, Metal Gear 1&2, MGS vr mission and the digital graphic novels of MGS 1 &2. Even so I’m looking forward to going through a few of them before snake eater remake is out though. Wish it was twin snakes though as that version has better controls, actual boss themes and the hallway scene is actually better too
@stefan771 Snake eater is the first game in the series in the timeline. Then it’s portable ops, then peace Walker, then MGS V ground zeroes and phantom pain, then Metal Gear, then Metal Gear Solid2, then MGS, then MGS 2, then MGS 4 and finally Metal Gear rising
@tameshiyaku it’s pronounced delta not triangle, means change. I’ll still just call it snake eater remake though
Love the Metal Gear series and Snake Eater this will certainly be a day one for me. Hope they don’t mess it up as I’d love them to remake the others as well. May not be the same without Kojima though
