Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was nowhere to be seen during yesterday's PlayStation Showcase, a conspicuous absence which fans were quick to note. Now, to be entirely fair to Square Enix, it probably didn't want to split focus so that it could show us more Final Fantasy XVI gameplay (even after we did everything in our power to stop them).
Twitter is rarely so reasonable as we are but infinitely funnier. The memes, when they came, were suitably savage:
Did you really expect to see Final Fantasy VII Rebirth at the PlayStation Showcase? When do you think it will launch? As far as we know, the title is still coming in 2023, which might make this a banner year for Final Fantasy. Gamble like you're a Golden Saucer VIP in the comments section below.

Once FFXVI is released they will start promoting FFVII again. This is basically common sense. It would have blown all the attention away from XVI. As much as I would have loved to see a new trailer, i didn't expect it at all
I don't think most people thought it would be at a showcase alongside them over marketing Ff16.
I definitely didn't expect FF7R2 news one month before FF16s release
But I do wonder when they will show it again
I was kind of hoping for some footage myself, but thought of it as a far shot. I'm hoping that once FFXVI is released Square will finally start focusing on marketing Rebirth.
I’m hoping they’re pumping brakes on promotion to allow 16 it’s time?
I don't mind as
I'm not sure why people would've expected FFVII Rebirth and Wolverine to appear when the big focus is on FFXVI and Spider-Man 2 respectively.
It will come out at the end of March if it doesn't get delayed at all. Just the same as Remake was scheduled to before it got delayed until April. A lot of people seem very hopeful for 2023 just because it said coming Winter 2023. It won't be this year.
Having said that, I did kind of expect (hope for) another teaser trailer this week...
Realistically, it wasn't going to be there. Square-Enix wants all eyes on XVI right now.
This was always a long shot. We got 16 in just a few weeks. Chill out FF fans we are eating good. Rebirth will have its time but for now let 16 shine.
Releasing Forspoken, FFXVI and FFVII Part 2 all in the same year makes no sense to me...
Was never going to happen. Splitting focus from 16 right now doesnt make sense. Also i dont believe rebirth is coming till March 2024.
I just want to know when this alleged final fantasy 9 remake is coming
I wasn't even considering it with FF XVI just a few weeks away.
Rebirth will have it's own spotlight later in the year.
Am I crazy to be trying to wait until all three parts of FFVII remake are out before playing them all?
So far so good, but it might get tougher when Rebirth comes out and I know I still have years to wait.
Of all expectations this one was very unreasonable. As the article states, there is no way Square would shift the focus away from FFXVI. Expect more info on Rebirth a couple weeks after XVI launch at the earliest.
Didn’t expect it at all. I’m expecting to see something for it after FF16 is out not before
I was expecting them to show it, give us a release date of 22nd June, same day as Final Fantasy XVI, and announce it’s completely free if you completed Ehrgeiz before the 14th November 2004.
I just can't see two main Final Fantasy games releasing within 6 months of each other, just the thought of it sounds absurd.
I fully expect FF7 Réunion to be delayed.
They're probably waiting at least until FFXVI gets released since marketing has been focused on that. Still excited for Rebirth and I don't mind waiting a little bit more. FFXVI will keep me busy until then
I expect that FF7 Rebirth is going to release March or April 2024. We will probably see it again this summer but AFTER FF16 releases.
@UltimateOtaku91 There's only one main FF game, plus that DMC spinoff though.
@jmac1686 I'd be seriously surprised if it comes out that late. I think we'll see a december release. They'll try to hit the holiday season since sony will want to have the full hype behind PS5.
Don't forget that Square Enix usually do their own showcase these days. That'll be the time we'll get a full blowout on...
FOAMSTARS!!!
... and of course all the other RPG goodness Square Enix fans actually want.
@NEStalgia oh yeah, silly me how could I forget 😂
I wasn't expecting it!
I assumed that there was firstly a big chunk of XVI, and also, it was a PS5/PSVR2 presentation, so maybe Rebirth is also going to be on PS4?
Ragnarok & Spider-Man 2 were announced 2 years ahead of their release year, they have nothing else currently announced so unless a change in strategy, I'm guessing Rebirth will be the big PS5 exclusive of Fall 2024.
Never really expected this until AFTER FFXVI releases. But i'm not convinced it's still coming xmas 2023 either.
There's still games fest next month Tokyo games show in September and the games award in December they have plenty of time to show it off
@AndyKazama @Grumblevolcano Yeah I don't see them start to strongly market FF7 Rebirth until after FF16 releases, just makes sense.
