Neill Blomkamp, director of the upcoming Gran Turismo flick (which actually looks quite good, by the way) raised some eyebrows when he called for a Wipeout lore expert on Twitter. We already knew that Blomkamp was a fan and that he was teasing fans online as recently as yesterday, but this takes things another step in the right direction.
Even better, he got one. Damon Fairclough was a writer at the now-defunct Psygnosis, AKA Studio Liverpool, responsible for most of the in-universe lore up to and including WipEout Fusion. With the two connected, now all there is left to do is wait.
What do you think of all this? Are we inching towards an inevitable WipEout movie? Doesn't Blomkamp know we already have Speed Racer? Blast off into the comments section below.

A Wipeout movie has to compete with Redline, the movie with the best sense of speed I’ve ever seen. I’d say animated was the way to go for sure.
I was hoping they would do an animated Wipeout series in a similar style to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
If it helps make a new Wipeout game I’m all for it… else not so much
@themightyant Or at least bump up the Omega Collection to PS5 and PSVR2. Such a quality game.
@SoulChimera I wasn’t the biggest fan of the structure of that compilation, it didn’t guide me well, so while it was a good game technically I fell off it quite quickly.
A wipeout movie would be amazing, one of the series that got me onto the Playstation ecosystem
@themightyant I loved it, and playing the whole thing in PSVR was amazing. It really made you feel like
Spider-Mana Wipeout pilot! I’d love a power bump up to PSVR2.Wipeout movie? We just want a PS5 Wipeout game in the classic vein. Needs some Prodigy in the soundtrack though!
@SoulChimera I heard VR was great. I loved the game and gameplay I just didn’t love the progression which left me wanting. Definitely PSVR 2
Wipeout movie is alright with me if it gets us a PS5 entry 😜
Please god no. Not more anime rubbish.
This sounds kinda promising, actually. I hope they don't have to rename it because of the Wipeout TV show though.
It's too bad Blomkamp didn't get to make that Alien movie btw, because whatever it was like I have no doubt it would be better than Covenant!
If this film isn't plastered with Red Bull logo's and constant Prodigy and Chemical Brothers music blaring then it'll be a failure.
@sanderson72
Soundtrack was great. Wipeout XL was a great game. It felt like you were going so fast.
When later versions came out though like for the PS2 the hovercraft felt sluggish.
Does anyone else agree?
The Omega collection still holds up imo.
I was playing on my PS3 today and it's still full of video's dl from several outlets, E3, ... (what a great feature that was) and found the PS Gamescom 2013 showcase. It's there where they announced the Gran Turismo movie was going to be made. It took them 10 years so not so easy as I thought it was.
Come on Sony we need a PS5 WipeOut!
I hope this means we can get a new wipeout.
Great news if it pans out to anything in the long run.
