The rumoured remake of PS2 classic Persona 3 will be announced next month according to one of the original sources of the claims. ResetEra user I'm A Hero Too said a certain press conference in June will be "Evoke-itive", referring to the Evoker, a gun in the JRPG that allows Personas to be summoned.
Which livestream do you need to tune in to for the live announcement? The Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, 11th June 2023. While it's highly unlikely the Persona 3 remake will be exclusive to Xbox Series X|S, the claim does suggest Microsoft has the marketing rights again after revealing the recent Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden console ports. A 48-hour embargo was placed on confirmation of the PS4 versions, so if the same happens again this year, we suggest waiting for further information.
While original speculation surrounding the Persona 3 remake could have been chalked up as gaming forum hearsay, the claims became a lot more legitimate when what appeared to be footage of Persona 3 running at a higher resolution with tweaks to gameplay appeared online. Gematsu then backed up the rumours: "While we cannot verify the footage itself, Gematsu understands that a Persona 3 remake has been in development at Atlus for several years."

Better not be exclusive but SEGA and Microsoft do seem pretty tight at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised to see the next Yakuza there either tbh.
Really hope Atlus/SEGA do remember where Persona found its fanbase however
So not Persona 3 Fes version..For a Remake..
It won’t be exclusive to Xbox, but I said a while back it would not surprise me if P3 remake and P6 were revealed at Xbox’s event and they have marketing agreement like they did last year.
It will without a doubt be on playstation and Nintendo as well, there's no way in hell they would bring out a huge Japanese game and not put it onto a japanese console, it being xbox exclusive would not go down well in Japan and end up failing miserably sales wise. So yeah it's a given it will be on playstation.
@Rob_230 Exactly, Persona is what it is today because of playstation. I think Microsoft might have some marketing deal for these older games which any sony deals probably didn't cover, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Persona 6 being a playstation exclusive for a long time.
Damn, Sony is really getting dunked on with having an iconic series of their Platform be potentially exclusive to their biggest Rival. Thats what happens if you get too comfortable
@UltimateOtaku91 I don’t think P6 will be exclusive, unless Sony have had involvement with dev.
Persona series is multiplatform now, no concerns on what consoles it'll be on.
Still odd that this series started on 3 though.
Also it doesn't make sense to remake the 3rd game so soon after just releasing the original on all the latest consoles just 4 months ago. Persona games aren't short, they are 80+ hour games that require some dedication to complete, I'd be annoyed if I just spent 80 hours to complete a newly released game just to find out its getting a remake less 5 months later so I'd either have to play the same game again or miss out on a better version.
@UltimateOtaku91 honestly i'm lucky i haven't played the remaster yet, i've been sitting on the games due to how much time they need but if the rumours are going around i'm just going to wait a while and see
@UltimateOtaku91
It is a bit weird to see P3 remake coming so soon after re-releasing Portable. My guess would be that they aren't going to do the female protagonist side in the remake and so put out Portable to kind of pay their respects in some way.
Or they just know they can get away with it anyway. This is Altus after all. They love re-releases!😄
Microsoft would be better off remaking brute force or blinx….... crimson sky instead of running after a game with no nostalgia linked to its system and most of its fan base somewhere else.
Might be exclusive to Xbox as some other people mentioned, why else would a series asociated with PS be shown at an Xbox showcase?
Loved persona 5 royale, but I can't see myself investing as much time again on one of the earlier titles. Since I never experienced them I might go for the animes instead.
Really hate all this exclusive marketing rights thing. I mean, from a business standpoint, it kind of makes sense, but it just leads to a lot of confusion. I'd rather they just were either exclusive or that there were no exclusive marketing rights. Give everyone an equal chance. Main thing, though, I hope that this remake actually functions as a definitive version.
Persona 5 is the perfect JRPG, but P3 has a much better cast & story.
Don’t care where it’s announced. Just update it & all of us are in for something special.
Aigis in particular is a much better ‘mascot’ then Teddy & Morgana.
@Sil_Am the last xbox showcase had the persona 3, 4 and 5 re releases revealed, they came to playstation and nintendo the same day.
Persona 3 manages the time so much better then P5 (Imho P5 “plays itself” a little bit too much at times) so with P5 expertise and tweaks applied, this remake could be a stellar game and the best in the series.
Now just tell me I don’t have to buy a Series S because of some kind of Jet set radio exclusivity 😭 because I totally would
@UltimateOtaku91 Maybe the remake is closer to what Square has been doing with FFVII than a traditional remake?
@UltimateOtaku91 Agree, but only PS4, no PS5, versions for Persona 3 and 4. If this remake is next gen only, they may pull a similar stunt.
Remember, MS blocked a PS5 version of Psychonauts 2 from being made also.
@Sil_Am The reason they had a ps4/switch version was due to how old the games were meaning g those consoles could run them easily, but with a proper remake they might not be running on older hardware so this remake may only be on next gen consoles anyway. If true then I'm sure they would want it on playstation 5 for Japan players as they won't be getting decent sales on xbox over there.
@UltimateOtaku91
Persona would sell better in Japan for a Nintendo console than for a PlayStation because the Japanese prefer Nintendo the most and Sony less.
MS revealing P3 Remake? LOL
Sega/Atlus has to know that no one is gonna buy their game on that platform. but ok, we can just keep pretending that Xbox-ers play JRPGs on Xbox..unless it's on gamepass (gosh forbid they buy games).
Marketing rights be dammed, we all know Persona is gonna be playable on PS too.
I actually welcome a marketing deal for Xbox for the Persona games so hopefully it will quiet down the US Senators whining to Japan’s legislature about how Sony is unfairly boxing out Microsoft in Japan.
People say it might appear on MS showcase, but SEGA still can do its own showcase on SGF, like Capcom did last year.
@straw-hat-crew Typical fanboy response. I bought Persona 3 and 4 even though I have game pass. Will buy the remake of 3 wether it's on game pass or not because it's my fave from the PS2 days, even though I recently finished P3P on Xbox.
I wouldn't be mad if it is exclusive to Xbox.. I have many 3rd party games that are exclusive on my PS5 and switch.. it's just how business works.
Hopefully it gets shown soon, I can imagine it getting released somewhere between Oct 23 to Jan 24.
Persona 3 and then I hope persona 4 😃
I'd be down for it,but i do hope they change tartarus to not be randomised and actual design the dungeons like they did in P5.
Also, include the whole story.
Inb4 Oh noes it is an Xbox exclusive.
(24 hours later)
Oh it is okay, good guy gamer Phil just paid for 24 hour exclusivity.
@Magnus_Selene dude you know they have to pay to get the marketing rights, right? And MS is literally paying for no marketing rights right now except for SEGA while Sony is paying WB, SE, Capcom, Bandai, etc.
Just as MS was paying Bandai a couple of years ago and they got the marketing rights of all the big Shonen jump ips. This has nothing to do with being "comfortable" MS is paying more than what Sony is able to pay to SEGA, that's all.
@JON22 it's the typical fanboy answer but the sales part is the truth lol. Just because you pay for your games (well done btw) doesn't change the fact that most companies who bring their games day one to gamepass do it because they have the numbers to know the game is not going to sell.
My country is one of the strongest xbox territories, Monster Hunter World for xbox was on sale one week later after ralease. Monster Hunter Rise went directly to game pass. It's just numbers.
And now let's begin the rumors of MS buying SEGA once again.
Even when MS can't finish their current acquisition, SEGA is doing record numbers and everything big MS has acquired was handled to them after internal and external scandals.
@Rob_230
If the Like a Dragon series goes to Microsoft exclusively it will be the first time buy a Xbox.
I really don't get it. They JUST released the remaster, I can't imagine they'd follow it up with a remake immediately after. And I'm not sure what a "remake" would entail. The only part of the game that doesn't hold up really is the repetitive monodungeon. That wouldn't take a remake to fix, it would just take an entirely new game design.
@UltimateOtaku91 The only thing that makes me not discount it entirely is that it's Atlus. We're talking about a studio that already released P5 twice, with an edited version that made you have to play the 500 hour epic a second time if you want all the character content.... But it really still doesn't make sense to do a remake right after the remaster. And Persona games really just don't age much.
@NEStalgia Yeah it's definitely a strange one, that's if its true. Only way I will be playing Persona 3 a third time is if its gets a lot of extra content like P5 Royal did. Otherwise I don't care how shiny the new look is it's just not worth another 100 hours of my time for the same story.
If this ends up as an Xbox (timed) exclusive then this might be the reason for me to actually get a Series X lmao.
Very unlikely tho. MS and Sega seem to have a deal when it comes to marketing like Sony and Capcom
Just change the ending and I'll be happy.
Make door-kun and toaster be together forever!!!
@Arcanist I still think that particular series will sell better on Playstation as it's roots are with Playstation. You do have a point with how Japan seems to favor Nintendo over Sony these days though.
@NEStalgia didn’t the FF7 classic remaster port hit consoles around the same time as the FF7 Remake was announced?
Also: good reason to port P3P to modern consoles, because you know the remake will be exclusive to a single console+PC?
I doubt it but also would not be shocked if Xbox pays for a 6 month exclusivity deal.
As I said I doubt there will be exclusivity to Xbox, but would not be surprised if they had a 6 month window. I would be shocked if there was a year window.
But I am baffled about all the people already complaining about even just a marketing exclusivity, because legacy and what not. It’s ok for Sony to lock down third party exclusives, but not for Xbox?
And legacy, well, Final Fantasy used to be a 100% Nintendo exclusive until Sony came around. Things change.
At the end, if it’s Xbox exclusive, it will also be on PC.
It feels too soon after the remaster, but I'd sure be down for a full remake if it's true.
@Tharsman 7 remake was announced in 2014, the classic port was some years later iirc. And remake isn't really a true remake as much a totally different game sort of following the story. I guess they could do that here, but I can't really imagine them making a persona remake that's not really a remake, that's just not atlus style.
Idk about console exclusivity. Ps exclusivity seems weird enough at this point for the series, then people talking about xb exclusivity seems even worse for a popular in Japan Japanese game. It would be nice to see though as a sort of rivaling of ff.
@NEStalgia well, the leak clip and rumors so far point are a remake that is more in line, gameplay and visuals, to Persona 5. I would call that a FF7 style remake. Likely the core story will be about the same.
As for exclusivity, when you get some users angry, you get many more users just jumping onto your platform. At this point, Xbox should not care about whom they upset with exclusivity dreams. It’s not like Sony or Nintendo ever cared.
All of this should be taken with a grain of salt, but from what I have collated...
P3 Remake is multiplat with Xbox marketing exclusivity.
P6 is PS exclusive.
Which is so batshit and nonsensical that I believe it coming from Atlus.
@Tharsman True, but while Sega and MS are close, Atlus seems to do its own thing, and even with MS seemingly having marketing exclusivity on the remasters, even briefly, Atlus still breached the embargo. I just find it super hard to believe a Persona game would end up with any exclusivity beyond marketing to XB. Don't get me wrong I love watching the world burn and want to see it happen. I'd love for them to make it cloud exclusive just to p-off absolutely everybody everywhere, but I just don't see it happening.
@Rob_230 Timed exclusive is probably the worst case scenario. I can't imagine Xbox paid Atlus enough to miss out on all that sweet sweet PlayStation & Nintendo money, for long.
@IAmAshCohen17 Yeah Xbox showcase for marketing, but then a wide release on all platforms sounds about right.
They have yet to release a Persona game that's truly Xbox exclusive, dunno why they'd start doing that now.
@KidRyan yeah I don’t think they would make it exclusive, but I can see marketing and potentially a GP deal.
@JON22 great. good job. so that's 1 out of how many subscribers there are on XBox. cool! you did it.
