The recent PlayStation Showcase, in addition to dividing fan opinion and prompting a full-throated Reaction from us, was a slam dunk in terms of viewership. The number crunchers over at stream analytics outfit Gamesight did their thing, and even though many of the games we were hoping to see were a no-show, the allure alone was apparently enough to gather the PlayStation masses.
It's been speculated that some games were held back from the Showcase, although it remains to be seen if that is the case. Summer Game Fest is coming up, maybe something lands there? Did you tune in to watch the big show live as it happened? Let us know in the comments section below.

So glad that so many people got the chance to all say "Ok cool, but where's Spider-Man" to literally every game shown that didn't have "Spider", "-", and "Man" in it's name. LIVE.
Made the mistake of watching it live and being bored for almost its entirety. Won't make the same mistake again.
This was easily the worst video game showcase to ever happen. Nothing but CGI trailers with no gameplay or release dates to point of complete boredom. Expected to get some more big announcements and was left disappointed with what we got in return.
Well, for me itâs the last time I will be watching live.
The hyperbole on this showcase has been bonkers. But thatâs gaming discourse nowadays seemingly reduced to a binary decision.
Reality is there were plenty of good games shown but, Spider-man aside, they were all third party. First party really let the show down by only showing 3 CGI teasers and all being online PvP Live services. But that doesnât make it a bad showcase, just a disappointing one.
@themightyant Yup. Thatâs everything discourse these days.
Is this because of the growth of PlayStation or the death of E3 hoovering up the audience?
So many people got disappointed then. PlayStation showcase is supposed to show stuff that wouldn't be shown otherwise in any other showcase. But it was a third-party and multiplatform showcase, and MOSTLY in CG.
They should have announced a Pepsiman remake, that would have been the gamechanger.
Considering the amount of games and the variation that were announced it was a great showcase. But expectations of this showcase was completely different. The hype the internet created and Sony themselves (this time) is at fault here. Can't wait to see the next showcase as that should focus on the other first party games most likely.
Crazy amount of hype was the cause. I'll not be falling for that again.
I even bought a beer to drink with it. Wish I could have had my calorie deficit back
Just goes to show how thirsty we are for anything at the moment... sony really dropped the ball here
The worst showcase ever.
As a State of Play, pretty good.
And we'll all do it again
Some proper trolls in this comment section.
Showcase was far from bad, it was actually pretty good.
Just cause there was no big First Party showing doesnât mean its bad.
@themightyant so bizarre a way to look at it and extremely..... Binary.
Just because disappointing doesn't translate to bad for tou; for some a disappointing showcase. Amounting to mostly cgi trailers, title screens, and 3RD party games after nearly two years minimal communication does equate to it being a bad showing.
Your good, your OK, and your bad may not be in alignment with another's. Yet it doesn't make your opinion anymore right or wrong than there's. These opinions simply ARE. THAT'S IT.
To respond with blanket terms like hyperbole, enthusiasts, and all the myriad of terminology thrown around to gloss over self defeating defense of a corporation losing touch, is fine, but certainly not gospel.
Even though I was very disappointed with the showcase and was anxiously waiting for the big announcements that never happened lol. I will still try and watch them live when I can as I hate spoilers like a thumbnail on YouTube for example. I did however stop watching the xbox events years ago as they are even more boring and usually last longer too.
The most boring PS showcase ever. Yes I am a PS fan.
Filled with Gaas, CGIs, & multiplatform games.
The only bright moment was the unveil of Phantom Blade Zero.
I didn't even watch the showcase.
I just only scoop out the information about upcoming kids games from the showcase after PushSquare released the article about that and I found 2 upcoming kids games I have interest to play: The Plucky Squire and Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean.
This sounds eerily familiar...
Aaah, yes... Ubisoft titles :
One silver lining though... at least we didn't have to pay to watch the showcase.
#ReleaseTheSnyderCut
Too bad it was a turd.
@themightyant Yep, but anything playstation does these days draws in the "fans" to try and bring them down. One poor showcase and everyone is overreacting, Sony have been solid with playstation every year so far with great games first and third party, great playstation plus additions and some neat hardware such as the edge and PSVR2.
But one slip up and most people are against them, these people must be perfect themselves to hold such high expectations non stop.
@themightyant finally. The voice of reason once again.
@KundaliniRising333 says the guy who constantly posts negative things no matter the article. Comedy gold right here.
@Anti-Matter The Plucky Squire was one of the very few games that I had any interest in.Still have yet to play Cat Quest 2.
@UltimateOtaku91 It's not just Sony/PlayStation. Look at the OTT fallout after Redfall. So many noisy "Gamers" are dead set on negativity it seems and blowing everything out of proportion.
I'll just keep happily enjoying my games.
@themightyant I agree it was a good gaming showcase but disappointing from the perspective of being a "Playstation" show, as we didn't really see what they're up to outside of Spider-Man
@Wazeddie22
I really hope both of The Plucky Squire and Cat Quest Pirates of Purribean will get physical release on PS5 on next year.
I was one of those who watched it live. The most excited I got was when the Gran Turismo advert came on, becasue I thought that meant we were only halfway through.
@Joker1234 what hyperbolic nonsense. So it's gone from disappointing to 'worst ever' now? Ha ha.
Sure it was disappointing if you only play AAAA story-led games, and too much on show was not PS5 exclusive, but the variety and number of exciting looking games shown was great. SM2 showcase was incredible. If they showed 3-4 AAAA story-led games they'd get hammered for having too many of the same types of games, a criticism levelled at them for over a generation. Now they've branched out to mp and other genres of games, I find it refreshing as long as they keep the core of AAAA SP blockbusters there.
So it wasn't my favourite but far from being bad let alone the nonsense you spewed.
It was always gonna be the most watched, seeing as the showcase dry spell began to feel like a metaphorical mad max situation. I was severely disappointed, but at least it gives xbox a chance to prove itself. Sony tripped up on this, they didn't fall. Xbox can't afford even to trip. Excited none the less. Also, metal gear remaster and Spiderman, that gave me chills.
I think that's the thing, as a kind of E3 offering, it was awesome. As a showcase, it was, well, more like an E3 event.
I expect they'll see a severe drop in live viewership for the next. I know last week's show will be the last I bother watching live. I'll catch highlights after the fact from here on.
Of course it was highly viewed, it was the first major presentation from Sony in what, 18 months? More? Highly rated is another matter.
Sure it was a decent general industry coming attractions presentation. If it were not a platform holder's presentation. Nobody tunes into platform holder presentations to watch a general industry coming attractions presentation plus a few CGI trailers from the platform holder. Let alone CGI trailers for iffy looking games.
@UltimateOtaku91 Iâm not perfect but i did think it was odd to even have a show if first party had little to show. They could have not had a show and kept the negative PR away. When Xbox would do mostly 3rd party shows when they had like 4-5 studios it was mocked as a 3rd party show and itâs suppose to be a show showing why you are a Xbox player. In this case Sony invited us to a show and had little to offer. Could have done a smaller and cheaper state of play after the MS show and showed Spider-man 2 and stole some thunder. Hope that makes sense, i ainât complaining per say, i just wasnât hyped for most of what was shown and as a PS and Xbox user i am normally more excited to see Sonyâs cause they are more first party driven and Xbox normally shows me stuff from 3rd party that i could just see from the publishers themselves. Again not trying to be negative, just wanted to share the standard i was used to and didnât see. However i fully expect Sony to have bangers by time the next show rolls around and they will break the internet with loads of awesome stuff. This one will be forgotten and things will be strong for PS again. đ
@NEStalgia you said it better than me, but that was my general take from it as well, see my post above to UltimateOtaku91. You just said it a little cleaner than me. Things will be back to normal for Sony once they have more titles fully cooked.
@Green-Bandit Well it's mainly the people who lately try to bring a downer to every article either relating to spiderman or the showcase, I get it the show was poor for first party games but you would think it was the worst show overall in history judging by some comments. I myself said it was a mediocre showing after the show but there's no need to keep going on about it on every article since (not aimed at you btw).
And yeah Sony will bounce back with a banger, just like xbox will with this year's showcase after they had a disappointing year last year. One bad showcase or one bad year doesn't mean doom and gloom for these companies. Sony obviously have more in the oven but just aren't ready but at the same time didn't want to miss out on the "Non E3" event period so they gave their fans a quick update on some things to come.
@UltimateOtaku91 "One bad showcase or one bad year doesn't mean doom and gloom for these companies. "
"I survived the WiiU years and all I got is this lousy Switch port."
@NEStalgia Well that wasn't one bad year, that was five đ
@Kidfried haha well spotted
@UltimateOtaku91 It was more like one bad year just drawn out for five, though. lol
I think they played a bit of a blinder. Itâs Xbox showcase in a couple of weeks, wat they gonna show? Starfield, Forza andâŚâŚ? Same as Playstation???
@UltimateOtaku91 you are spot on as always. First the show wasnât awful. It wasnât much for me, but in general it had some great games on display. Yes Sony will erase this show with a banger in no time and then people will be on the bandwagon saying how much they love Sony. Itâs the nature of the business, if you make a mistake or in the Xboxâs case, multiple mistakes the internet drops rocks on your head and actâs like it never forgetâs or forgives. Sony in my opinion could have slipped this show and still sold millions of consoles, but as you said they want to partake in the showings of the year and this is all they had at the moment. Side note i want to thank you for always being smart, informed and fair. I think you know Xbox is my daily driver console, with PS being my exclusives machine. So if I criticize anything Sony, i am just a fanboy, blah blah blah. Truth is i love my PSâs, for a none daily driver console, i have an Edge controller and the Sony H9 Inzone gaming headsets. I really love the console, and try and treat it with the same rules as i would Xbox. Not Nintendo since they are to different to compare fairly. Just wanted to say thanks and i always enjoy your takes and enjoy sharing ideaâs, complaints and excitement with you over industry topics đ
@Green-Bandit I'm the same as you but consoles are reversed as my main is playstation whilst I play xbox games as well but just not as much. Thanks for the nice feedback đ feel free to add me on xbox if you wish.
@UltimateOtaku91 awesome will do buddy, and on PS5. Canât wait to see the Xbox show. They have a chance to show some good stuff. Lotâs of devâs now. Rumor is 10-12 first party games. Tho i am sure some of those will be small or maybe only teased.
@Green-Bandit Well I expect to see gameplay of Starfield, Forza Motorsport, Hellblade 2, State of Decay 3 and Avvowed. Those alone would make a cracking show, I would also like a Gears of war collection so I can continue with the story, I completed Gears of war ultimate edition last year but I couldn't go back to the old style of Gears of war 2. Apart from those I don't know what else they could show that would be anywhere near ready. I think there will be a lot of Japanese games coming to gamepass that are already on playstation/switch, and obviously a few third party titles some of which will be coming to gamepass day one.
I would also like them to show off a new persona game but only if its multi platform as I play all my JRPG's on playstation, always have always will as that's where my collection is at.
@UltimateOtaku91 Makes sense, kind of like me with Tekken and resident evil, they are all on PS for me. I think your list is right on the money, minus state of decay 3, hasnât been a lot of newâs around them in a while. So you might have seen me say a time or 25 haha , Red Dead, Gears of War and Diablo are my favorite adult series that still make me feel like a kid when they release. So if i got a Gears collection and Diablo 4 in one year on Xbox i would be head over heels. I have been hoping the Gears collection is coming in Unreal 5, or even Unreal 4 and hit 4K 60 and polish them up. The first 3 games are amazing. 4-5 are just ok. Things are looking up this year. SF6 and Diablo 4 look to have great review scores coming in.
@Green-Bandit Well state of decay 2 has been done for a long time now so surely they have something to show, also I don't believe they have any other projects on at the moment so you would expect them to be 3-4 years into full development by now. On the subject of red dead take two have said they have a lot of games in the works so maybe one of those is a red dead 1 remake, id love to revisit that game again even if it's just for the zombie dlc.
@UltimateOtaku91 Fair point, i mean SOD 3 should have something to show, but this is Xbox after all, as much as i love them we all know they struggle to get results from time to time. I would love to see it tho. As for Red Dead 1 remake. That would be right there with Diablo 4 as my game of the generation. Plus PS players donât even have access to the game at the moment. So that fills a big hole on the PS side of things.
