Disney Dreamlight Valley may lack the polish of Animal Crossing, but it has one advantage on Nintendo’s iconic slice of life series: it’s guaranteed to get updated for as long as developer Gameloft considers it viable to do so. Considering the title’s popularity, that commitment’s certainly going to continue through 2023, and now we have a content roadmap that confirms what we have to look forward to.
Things will get underway imminently in early June, with the release’s “biggest story update yet”. This new plot will involve the Fairy Godmother, as was previously teased, and will help to “unveil the secret to The Forgetting”. We’ll probably learn a lot more about this soon, but until then, a second summer update will include the addition of Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph.
Perhaps crucially, September will see the arrival of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, as a portal to a new realm welcomes “new friends along with other surprises”. Then in late 2023, there’s promise of a new story chapter, even more characters, multiplayer, and – enticingly – a new Royal Tool, which we suspect will unlock fresh gameplay opportunities. Of course, all of this will unfold alongside new Star Paths and cosmetic content, so there’s a ton to look forward to here.
We really like Disney Dreamlight Valley. It’s surprising to us that more developers haven’t attempted to emulate Animal Crossing, but this game feels like the perfect storm, as we’d argue living next door to the Little Mermaid is a step above a random rhinoceros who likes to work out. The roadmap looks rock solid too, so we’re excited to continue expanding our village through into 2024 and beyond.

Disney is one of the many massive disappointments of the last five years. My support for their products will be minimal for the rest of my life and will more than likely had to have existed before 2018 in some manner. Then and only then, will I check each on a case by case basis to see if it's worth my money.
I was a bit disappointed when I heard they were adding Vanellope over some of the more well known characters. But I watched the Wreck it Ralph movies this week (in anticipation of the update) and really enjoyed them. I’m looking forward to the update a lot more now.
We really need more villains though. I hope to see Maleficent, Cruella, Jafar and Hades added at some point. The Nightmare Before Christmas characters in the Halloween update would be amazing too.
@Uncharted2007 five years only? I'd set that clock back to 1999.
@NEStalgia Fair.
@Uncharted2007 What happened 2018 onward that made worst than other time?
Thanks for sharing! I'm still waiting for the game to switch to free to play before dropping in myself.
It’s an addictive game for sure but incredibly shallow. I’m surprised it took me as long as it did to get bored - so I had my monies worth - but eventually I realised it really wasn’t going anywhere at all.
Awesome to know that we are getting more areas added I was like uuuuuum with that amount of characters this game will have each needing their own house I'm gonna run out of space eventually 😅 so I assumed at some point new areas would be added. And FINALLY Belle is coming it sucks we have to wait another few months but it's about time now please ADD MULAN ALREADY!!!
The binary in the roadmap translates to PIXL.
Redeem it for some gaming themed goodies.
I swear they said this was going to go Free to Play from March this year? Or atleast early this year.
