Assassin's Creed Mirage got a seven-minute gameplay demo during Ubisoft's summer showcase, and as the developer has been saying all along, Basim's origin story really does look like a more traditional Assassin's Creed adventure. There's a clear emphasis on dense city traversal here, alongside stealthy options both in and out of main missions. Many fans have been clamouring for a return to the old formula — after three open world RPGs — and this certainly looks the part.
That said, this isn't a total reboot. Throughout the gameplay video, we noticed loads of reused animations from the likes of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and the combat system seems to have bolted additional elements on, as opposed to returning to the contextual skirmishes of Altair and Ezio.
Mirage also got a story trailer, which is just about everything you'd expect:

I am impressed that they went as far as to make the game look and feel as if it was developed a decade ago.
Honestly it's an improvement to me. Hated how action oriented the new games had become. Stealth seemed like an afterthought. It seems like it will be important in a game about assassinating people again. I would have preferred a newer location though. Imagine actually being a ninja in an open world feudal Japan? Missed opportunity.
Still, at least they finally showed gameplay. Not 100% traditional, but didn’t expect it to be either.
It certainly looks like a promising return to core gameplay design. Baring some bad reviews/launch issues I'm looking forward to it.
It does look good. It passed the mum test, who bailed Unity and Syndicate due to the gameplay getting steadily more complicated and diluted.
Looks great. Hopefully it sells as much because otherwise they would stick to bloated open worlds.
I'm looking forward to this. I like both the new and old Assassin's Creeds but the former have always let me down on some of the key aspects I loved about AC.
I hope Mirage isn't just a one off though and that they combine the elements of both new and old for future entries and create something special.
@Cloud39472 To my understanding, in the future, some will be traditional, some will be RPG.
They could add new moves, features a little, just seems exact same gameplay, idk, looks ok of course.
Cool it’s like you’re an assassin again!
@ATaco
That game is called Ghost of Tsushima...lol...
@FenIsMightier
I'm telling you if Codename Red does not live up to what GoT accomplished Ubisoft may as well just quit.
Honestly, it is like the old games, a little too much so and I loved the old ones. The issue here is the animation work looks unchanged from assassin's creed 3. Honestly... go back and play it. Would of loved to see a little more fluidity and variation in the traversal (jumping and landing).
Second thing that is a bit of a let down is the visuals. Is it just me or does Unity look better? A game that was designed for PS4 8 years ago, although to be fair that game looks decent even today!
I'll still buy it cos I loved the old series but hopefully the rest of the game has far superior improvements.
@PoeticJustice I played Unity after the patches and I really enjoyed it. I thought it looked amazing.
Major improvement imo! I'm still on AC3, but look forward to playing this in a few years.
Let's hope you actually have a reason to run away this time, unlike the original games, where running away was fun, but the objectively better strategy was just to hold block and spam the counter button for a few minutes.
