Blizzard's latest hotfix for Diablo 4, amongst other things, aims to stop rampant XP farming by "standardising the density of elite monsters that spawn in dungeons to ensure that no particular dungeon is clearly more efficient to run through than others."
In a tale as old as time, gamers have already discovered the most optimal Dungeons to run through in the popular action RPG, maximising rewards and minimising time spent. Sure enough, this becomes locked in as the current meta, and suddenly the other 100 or so Dungeons find themselves rather lonely.
With this shift, the Ruins of Eridu are likely to get a lot less play, but simply Googling "Diablo 4 Best XP Farm Hotfix 9" shows the endless desire to optimize has already found fertile grounds for tilling elsewhere. Are you farming the same Dungeon over and over again, reaping a rich harvest of Paragon points in the process? We don't judge; tell us why in the comments section below.

I'm still waiting for my copy to be delivered. Apparantly i have to wait 14 days before its classed as lost before i get a replacement sent or a full refund..
Good job blizzard, make solo play dungeons even less fun 👏👏
I havent played Diablo IV but I thought one of the main issue was levelling up in the later levels. That it took way too long?
Surely a 9/10 or a 10/10 game
@Northern_munkey digital > physical (jk obviously)
Sorry to hear that, man... It sucks.
@naruball he showed off that he bought Diablo 4 Pre order for 25% off months ahead of release from website which was for sell at the time he typed here in Pushsquare. If something is too good to be true most likely it is scam. And now he got scammed 99%.
@Northern_munkey Maybe just avoid buying stuff in shady websites with unreal prices.
Why? There’s quite a bit of repetition in dungeons anyway, just let people optimise. Nothing worse than nerfing a single player experience if it’s not game breaking. It’s convenience.
People who can farm fast wont be tempted by mtx.
Is all part of their optimisation, not for peoples max enjoyment, but for max takings.
Not that I care about Diablo, but it's always hilarious to me when this excuse is used for any game.
If the issue truly were that the less efficient dungeons are being ignored by players, then work on making those more efficient and fun to farm on, instead of making the current favorites worse.
It's got nothing to do with keeping a balance between areas, it's just about increasing the grind a.k.a. engagement time of as many users as possible - and, needless to say, tempting them more towards microtransactions.
@Gaia093 MTX are cosmetic only so...
@Uromastryx agreed 💯% with you.
@naruball physical..no worries as i've loads to get on with anyway 👍
@WallyWest I was talking in general, but in Diablo's case specifically, give it a while. Plenty of games withhold pay-to-win schemes during launch period to ensure good press and reception, then implement them later. A story older than time.
@Northern_munkey ngl I couldn't do that I'd have ordered a 2nd and returned the other when and if it arrived 😂
Removed - unconstructive
If you can farm XP easily, you're not buying XP boosts from them.
@WallyWest so....? They're still there, ruining the game and gameplay. MTX are a disease.
@Zuljaras 10/10 means perfection. It ain't that, no matter how much you may like it.
@Northern_munkey pretty standard practice. Did you pre order? Which mail supplier? Ideally it should be up to the seller (not the mail supplier) to resolve with the post company and not you as it has not been delivered yet. Maybe chase the supplier?
@LifeGirl I was sarcastic because many people are giving the game those scores. And I do not agree because this should not even be called a game it is a live service and the players are the actual QAs ...
@MattBoothDev How are they ruining the game? Its just a bunch of lackluster skins you barely see the game due to the view that are worse then the many many transmog skins you can very easily obtain in game, in fact my current look is way better then what the store offers.
@Zuljaras I mean D2 and D3 were practically live services and D4 offers more content then most "complete" games.
@Blofse pre ordered from base.com and i've already emailed base.com who replied with the response i stated earlier. It sucks but it is what it is and it will turn up eventually. Thanks to everybodys who replied to my post. Its appreciated 👍
Previously you posted that you bought from "hit.com". Anyways both of those websites are not selling anything.
@Northern_munkey fingers crossed it's sorted out soon.
I'm absolutely loving the game. I have barely touched the main campaign as I'm still at the beginning of Act 1, having only completed the Prologue thus far. Currently I'm working my way around the outer edges of the map in a clockwise manner, revealing (and walking!) every single path. I do each side quest, event and Dungeon as I come across them. The game (and map!) is simply huge. I'm putting in 3 or 4 hours each day, and so far I reckon I've only uncovered approaching one quarter of the map. Even without having done the main campaign, and playing the game the way I am, I hit level 50 yesterday evening. Absolutely loving my time with the game...
@REALAIS base changed to hit.com (or one of the websites changed to hit) but they are legit. Sometimes parcels get lost. Happens for all kinds of retailers/parcel carriers
The game and leveling is fantastic until you finish the story/hit level 50. Once you hit level 50 it starts to become an absolute slog to level up. I’m almost level 60 and already sick of running dungeons to level up.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner okay, only it is hit.co.uk in that case. Then yeah if it is the case, unlucky for him. Only should use correct domains, cause it is difference com or co.uk.
@WallyWest they're entirely unnecessary and add no value to the game. They're just the start and already egregious. Selling in-game currency, of any sort, for real money is utterly insane and it shouldn't be allowed.
They exist to milk more money out of people on top of the already very high base price and battle pass system.
Microtransactions are an anthema within gaming and need legislating away.
Maybe I don't understand Diablo 4, but isn't it entirely cooperative? Are they really nerfing a non-competitive game? It seems pretty blatant what they're trying to do here if that's the case.
@Mythologue there some pvp but yeah it's mainly co-op, it's lame thing to do it, and they have been under fire since starting the nerfs, their idea I suppose was to make sure people play the game longer, but it Will absolutely have the reverse effect,.I'm 60 of 100 currently, and it's making me tired already repeating same 2 things (dungeons/whispers) and now they smash the exp gained,.and leveling doesn't make you feel stronger cause the world scaling is so badly tuned. They have an epic game here but insist on shooting themselves in the foot every 2 or 3 days since release
@Mythologue the harder it is to level up, the easier it becomes to then start selling ‘EXP boosts’. The shop will end up going that way at some point.
Haven’t played it yet but it does bring back fond memories of shooting those poor sitting duck froggies in Elden Ring. I still couldn’t beat Melanie or the final boss but it helped with a few other things.😁
@MattBoothDev There's no way to buy in game currency. The only things you can buy is some premium cosmetics and the Battle Pass.
@WallyWest not yet, but there will be! The premium cosmetics use that trick where they sell you 900 gold dabloons and the hat you want costs 1000, so you have to get the 1900 dabloons option.
The idea of a battle pass in a fully priced game is just weird as well, but, that's just me. I don't play any of these kinds of games but it seems weird to charge £70 and that's not the end of the stuff they want you to buy.
So early adopters get loads of xp and everyone has to grinder even harder 👍
@MattBoothDev and you got evidence that non cosmetics are coming? Blizzard have stated multiple times the MTX and Battle Passes are only cosmetic based, anything that affects gameplay barring future expansions will be free.
@WallyWest everything they say can be unsaid at the drop of a hat. There's mountains of prior examples of publishers adding egregious MTX post-launch. They'll do it. And people will fall over themselves to defend it.
This is Activision, they added the real money auction house in Diablo 3. They'll have a plan to add in-game currency purchases and all the other proven ways to milk whales dry.
@MattBoothDev they also got rid of the auction house pretty quickley as well and overhauled the entire game drastically. Diablo 3 today on pc and consoles is a much, much better game than it was when it released. I built a reasonably good rig for when d3 released and i bought it on the ps4 too..alas my now ancient gaming rig is not enough to run the current crop of games otherwise i would have considered purchasing d4 on that instead of my ps5. The diablo franchise is my all time fave and i'll be playing diablo well into my old age..if it ever turns up 😭
@MattBoothDev The auction house that was dropped? You don't have any evidence to prove this stuff is coming, its been stated multiple times seasons and future story content is being "funded" by the cosmetic shop and battle passes, they have actually been pretty up front from the off how they are doing things
End of the day though you're not playing the game, clearly haven't researched the game and clearly don't care to do either so why even bother commenting when you know so little about it. This nerf is isn't even that bad, the people effected are the people who were grinding certain dungeons for hours on end for a couple of extra stat points that make little different.
i havent even explored a quarter of the map.
i personally prefer to explore as much of the map as possible before trying to find XP farming methods. its pretty fun so far, quite different than the way we explored the other diablo games.
@Uromastryx Games about grinding are not about fun
Boring game imho , too much cut and paste in dungeons. A single player can get stuck in a bossfight because to progress in the story line you need a group. Played 200+ hours and have deleted the game.
@WallyWest it's called speculation and I don't need to play the game to comment on it. It's a £70 game with a "battle pass" and cosmetics sold for premium currency (which is sold in bundles). It's everything I hate about microtransactions. The story could be the best ever written and I'm still going to dump on this game and say it's total trash. Because they ruin it and make it trash.
If I said there was a turd in a cake, but it's the best cake everyone's ever had, you just have to be careful and eat around the turd, it's stunning that some people eat the damn cake and others, a small minority, don't even care about the turd and think that tastes nice too. In fact, they get so precious about the cake that they'll slam anyone not eating turd.
The real money auction house still happened. They did that. They'll do something again. This is still the "what, don't you guys have phones?" arseholes at Blizzard. It's perfectly fair to speculate that they'll ruin it even more down the line by adding more and more ways for them to get money from you after you've bought it.
If you're not a "payer" then you'll start getting a de-prioritised experience until they can figure out how to make you pay. THAT isn't speculation. That's based on ActivisionBlizzard patents. All games with microtransactions in them like this are guilty.
@Northern_munkey yeah, I loved Diablo 1 and 2 back in the day, when it was still Blizzard and they didn't suck. I was a huge Blizzard fan right until World of Warcraft.
The auction house went on for about a year, iirc and it was more total rubbish. They said they were doing it because they wanted to combat third party trading sites and that their only other alternative was to remove trading all together.
It's no surprise that they took a cut of all the auction money and, surprisingly, they did away with the auction house in the end (as it was continual bad press) AND didn't have to remove trading. It's almost like they lied initially or something 😂
Microtransactions leave a bad taste in my mouth and make a game 0/10 instantly for me. There's just no circumstances that I find them acceptable.
This is just based on my 30 odd years of gaming, turning me into a cynical old *****.
Just play the game and enjoy it! I don't care or want to finish the game the faster. I don't get mad about Mtx because I refuse to buy them. I am sure blizzard did not intend for people to bypass a large amount of dungeons for just a few higher EXP dungeons. If players did not exploit this nothing would have changed.

Not even reached 50 yet and didn’t know you could farm in Diablo!
@Northern_munkey every other shipment always arrives earlier than expected, except the one that you really want so bad!
best of luck.
@ExtremeBlue90 it happens unfortunately but never mind.
