Final Fantasy 16 has had no shortage of trailers in the lead up to its release, but this latest one exists to remind you the game is a PS5 console exclusive for a reason. Sony has obviously furnished publisher Square Enix with lots of cash, but that’s also resulted in a title that’s designed to take advantage of all of its new-gen format’s features.
This trailer digs into that, promising lightning-fast loading times, ear-shattering 3D audio, and extensive use of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. In addition to spotlighting all of the features, the video is pretty hype-inducing overall, with lots of gameplay footage and a spectacular soundtrack. Just one week left to go now, folks.

New could get into ff games but after that demo definitely buying.
@Americansamurai1 That's awesome to hear! It was definitely one of their aims to convince new fans to try out the game, so looks like they were successful on you!
@get2sammyb I was really impressed by the gameplay, story, and soundtrack especially during the icon battle. Combat feels like the old god of war games.
God damn that trailer is so well put together.
Seeing all that stuff adding into the trailer however, makes it almost feel like a Playstation Studio game which is kinda funny. But also sends the wrong message.
No need for a demo to convince me lol. From the moment the game was announced back in 2020, I knew I had to get this game day 1. I'm just happy that the demo convinced many of those who are still in doubt.
I'm getting it but probably not day one. There is so much to play right now.
I enjoyed a lot about the demo but I honestly wasn't that wowed by the graphics, especially the look of the characters. I mean, it looked great but I've seen better looking games this gen.
I can't wait for the full game because I can't wait to kill a certain backstabbing you-know-who (though I doubt that'll happen; there'll be some other form of justice). Maybe a controversial opinion but the FF series often has pretty weak villains in terms of you actually wanting to kill them - some notable exceptions like, of course, Sephiroth - but some are either just basic sketches of characters or too silly to take seriously. This character in XVI is nowhere near being the main villain and yet I can't wait to see them get their comeuppance.
I just really hope the frame rate is smooth, i've just finished playing ratchet and clank rift apart and miles morales and made good use of vrr, performance on those games were very good, i refrained from playing elden ring after i read its frame rate was not stable.
@ApostateMage I know what you mean. Sometimes they were impressive but not always. One thing is the NPCs are done to a similar standard to the main characters - usually they look much more basic (like in X they were basically mannequins with the clothes drawn on) so that's cool. I was disappointed in some environments too. The throne room and a room Joshua's in later were really bland and basic. Kind of like locations in massive open world game rather than a hyper linear experience with no optional areas.
@Matroska me too, can't wait.
From the title of the article i thought this would be a trailer of Sony’s wallet!
Dumb question but why do your preview thumbnails for your FF16 articles quite often feature that woman from the Luminous Engine tech demo from years ago?
@mariomaster96 I was thinking that. It'd be like if Rebirth's articles had Cloud next to Zell from FFVIII. I wonder if he thinks she's from XVI...
@Splat yeah and FF16 should be the priority at least for me lol will stop playing anything to get into this gem.
@ApostateMage I felt the same way. So far through games I have played, Dead Space has looked the best this gen for me. Although impressive, I definitely wouldn’t describe Final Fantasy 16s graphics as spectacular. Gameplay and story from the demo is another thing altogether, that was spectacular!!
Everything gets dropped for this incoming beast. Only a week to go ladies and gentlemen 😎.
Lol I love how they're always trying to promote the controller features but Ive had them all turned off or set to the lowest setting since I first got my PS5
Welp. That advert sure worked on me! 😅
@mariomaster96 Maybe they thought it looked like Clive's wimpy brother, all bloodied up? 😉
probably be my Fall game. cant play something this involving during summer, especially not when diablo is lurking on my ps5.
its not like a game you can fool around for 30 minutes then leave it be for a while.
@Matroska Fans may be divided over FF16 but if we can all agree on one thing, is that everyone hates that characters and hope they get their comeuppance
@NinjaNicky No mainline Final Fantasy is connected. They're all seperate games with their own characters and stories so you can jump in wherever you like and go from there
Other than the haptic feedback (which isn’t exactly a necessity) I don’t really see anything that would stop it from doing well on XBox or PC. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve preordered on PS5 and I’m just for it, but this comes across as a very fanboyish headline. The video game politics surrounding Final Fantasy titles for have always been a wild ride.
*for the next 6 months to a year
@Matroska that character isn't in 16? I genuinely thought they were saving her scenes as a surprise and only having her in the cover art
@Nepp67 She's from a tech demo from 11 years ago that has absolutely nothing to do with FFXVI other than obviously being a hypothetical FF game. That pic isn't the cover art, I think it's just something Sammy googled up and didn't realise she's not from XVI.

Is 3D audio the same as Spatial Audio?
It’s a bit silly, crying over the possibility of Xbox buying Activision, then shouting from the rooftops over our own exclusives.
The "not available on other formats until 12.31.2023" at the bottom looks quite goofy. I imagine the cash they are paying to keep it off PC for a few months and from Xbox forever must be enough to at least fund half a game, maybe an jrpg of their very own!
Played through the demo and I'm torn. Loved the story once it got going. Some actual real drama with consequences this time. But the gameplay was hit and miss for me. The actual combat system was good, but I was not a fan of the qte eidon fights. And not feeling the map and not having a proper overworld. And what's up with the graphics? Certain scenes look good, but other areas really dull. I guess it's a conscious choice from the art direction team, but the whole thing just looks a bit drab and muted. Not what I'm looking for in a FF tbh 🤷🏻♂️ Still, story wise I'm intrigued. Waiting for the reviews methinks.
This trailer has got me hyped for this game for the first time since it was announced. It just hasn't grabbed me by the testicle until now 😂
There must be something wrong with me, I just don't see the huge hype.
Yeah, the battles and cutscenes have spectacle - but I have seen everything else in between and it's not as impressive as where it seems it should be.
3D Audio is...whatever, it's everywhere now and not exclusive to PS5. Been using 3D Audio on Windows, Xbox, and PS5 for a long time now - more in Xbox/Windows as it wasn't locked behind an expensive headset like the PS4.
I don't give a hoot about adaptive triggers or the haptic feedback. I mean, it's neat, but I don't notice it. Like when I played Deathloop on Xbox after playing it on PS5, it just never even occurred to me that I didn't have a DualSense in my hand.
I am guess I just so accustomed to playing on so many different gamepads over my 35+ years of gaming that a controller is just a controller.
Even on the Switch, I thought HD Rumble was neat at first, but then I just ignored it all together. Same with the DualSense - it was neat with Astro and then I don't even notice it.
Okay, so the zero loading time is great - can't lie about that.
I'll probably get this eventually, but I am certainly not chomping at the bit waiting for it.
@Juanalf It could just be what they did with FFVII where they said Square could have a larger share of profits than Nintendo had allowed them. Not to mention how they've been paying to promote it as it was a new Uncharted or Horizon.
@Matroska
“FF series often has pretty weak villains in terms of you actually wanting to kill them”
Umm… Kefka would like to say ‘hello.’ 😬
@Gitface I know this is controversial but I never liked Kefka. It's so impersonal with him as far as I remember. He just does stuff because he feels like it and you're just one of many of those affected. Still, at least he does some really significant stuff and is around for a lot of the game, unlike Ultimecia who just pops up at the end.
@KaijuKaiser I know it's fine, but it feels like I am missing something with this one.
I really liked Final Fantasy XV. When it was all over, I felt that if this was the "final fantasy", it went out with a bang and was a fitting "end" to a series. I mean, there was no indication that FF was stopping, I was just so satisfied with how that game played out that I would have been fine if SE stopped making games in the series after XV.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is amazing. Didn't like Yuffie's play mechanics, but I loved so much with Remake. I am excited for Rebirth!
But Final Fantasy XVI hasn't hooked me the way the other recent FF games have. 🤷♂️
@Judal27 Same here. The features are cool and all, but boy do those triggers hurt my hands! I’ve had a few long sessions where I wasn’t able to play anything for a few days after because I used the triggers too much. The button placement for the right thumb hits me just so that the joint on my right thumb is perpetually sore.
@Americansamurai1
The old God of War games, you say?! Say no more!
"Ear-shattering" audio, 3D or otherwise, is not a feature that gets me interested!
@Matroska Okay thank you, that completely misled me lol
@SuperstarG5 Why are you even bringing that up here?! 😒
@Rafie It’s not totally off topic, I’m looking forward to playing it, however it never bothered me which console I was playing it on. Owning both consoles allows me to play whatever whenever. However, I seen an article today where Sony have made a real stink up over Microsoft buying Activision, but if the shoe is on the other foot, it’s ok to scream about it. Double standards imo. My comment is relevant however, no point ignoring the Elephant in the room.
@Shstrick haha I haven't used it enough to see how it feels after long sessions but my fear was that it'd wear down the controller faster. I'm not sure if you played the astrobot game, but when you played as the spring-like thing. It would make awful noises and felt like the triggers were about to snap. Maybe that was the point but it scared me enough to turn them off 😆
Next-gen = PS6. Screw that marketing nonsense.
And thanks for talking normally at Push Square.
@get2sammyb I get the feeling that another of their aims with this demo was to give faith to the older fans of the franchise who had practically given up after the last few games were pretty much stinkers. I know XV has its fans but I don’t think it’s really a hot take to say that game was not great, or even really good for that matter. I do have to say as a fan of the franchise though this game plays very differently from older games this demo reignited my love of the franchise. Before playing this I was prepared to completely ignore this one. Would have been the first numbered FF since VII (aside from the mmos) that I intended to completely skip as I lost faith in the franchise
The graphics the music ahhhh it’s incredible!!!
the 22nd can't come soon enough
@NinjaNicky That's the nice thing about (most) FF, is you don't need to know anything going in. There's certain tropes and commonalities of course (chocobos, for instance. There's almost always a guy named Cid, lots of magical crystals, etc) But there won't be a single bit of this that you will need knowledge of other games in the series for.
Nah. Doesn't fly anymore. The illusion was broken by R&C PC port.
Looking forward to the game though. But these features thing sony is doing is hogwash. The consequences of your actions.
@rawzeku by this point if it wasn't down to Japanese law and culture square enix would he a Sony studio.
@Nem A port we haven't even scene yet. It would be trivial to add in a tunnel like effect when using portals. In fact the trailer for the PC port didn't show the complete transition.
@knowles2 I hope you are right. We shall see.
Shiva looks awsome my favorite summon.
Yet all you’ll hear on PureXbox is Sony pay bribes to keep games off Xbox!!! One guy in particular, Banjo he calls himself, he has a deep rooted hatred for Playstation an Sony. According to him Sony bribe devs, Playstation exclusive games are over hyped an boring, Xbox exclusives are far better, Sony an Nintendo only win GOTY because of media bias against Xbox, an Xbox game will never win GOTY because only Playstation an Nintendo are allowed to win!! He’s the epitome of fan boy. If you debate him he reports you!! 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Why do the tiles on the homepage for this article contain the woman from the Agni's Philosophy tech demo from 11 YEARS AGO??!! Nothing to do with this game....makes no sense
@TheArtfulDodge does he know Xbox Bride devs too with Gamepass money lmao
Didn't they say something weeks ago like They could have made it on PS4 but it would have taken too long? and here They do the "only would work on ps5" conversation again.
@TheArtfulDodger I think its very important that you go outside & get some fresh air
@number1024 totally agree mate!! I have both PS5 an Series X, both are great but i do prefer the PS5 simply because it has better games, PS exclusives are often masterpieces! If in the next 2 years Xbox had 10+ exclusives that were 10/10, GOTY contenders i’d say i can’t choose, both are pretty equal. I have no loyalty to Sony, why would i? I’m not a huge share holder.
@Ichiban i’m a postman! Walk 15 miles a day in the fresh air, 5 days a week!
I'm sure it's a very pretty trailer, but won't be watching it.
New plan is for me to wait a few months for patches...hopefully playing it by September.
