SEGA has just announced a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog game. Following the full-scale, open world Sonic Frontiers, we have Sonic Superstars, which takes things back to some side-scrolling platforming fun.
With a cheerful new art style, the game is a 2.5D platformer in which you can play as Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and of course, Sonic himself. It appears as though it's co-op for up to four players, allowing you to team up and tackle each level with friends.
Gameplay-wise, it looks like it's based on the physics and movement from the classic games, though of course we'll need to try it out ourselves to see how it feels. Either way, it's looking pretty good!

Can't wait for this game, this is the Sonic game that I wanted for years. The real Sonic the hedgehog 4.
Who was that wolf guy at the end? I recognise him from an old Sonic game but I can't think what.
@Matroska Nack the Weasel.
This game looks fun. Can't wait!
All in on this game. Sonic Mania made me want more, I'll get this one for sure.
Looks visually stunning. The physics seem to be solid based on the trailer but of course there's no way to tell without having hands on.
I wonder if it's at all possible to use the Retro Engine's physics system in a game that isn't 2D sprite based?
I thought this looks pretty good, really hopeful for it.
This look rather fruity!
Easily the best highlight (alongside MK1 gameplay) of the showcase so far. Sonic 4 can only cry in the corner, wishing it could have been like this instead of the sadsack it really is.
@Matroska : Fang the Sniper/Nack the Weasel.

Really looking forward to this and it looks utterly gorgeous
Looks really good. And 2D Sonic is generally top notch!
Now that's how you do Sonic
Looks great! Another nice surprise! I'm down for a co-op Sonic game.
@RogerRoger Hooray!
Wow this looks amazing! This is what I have been waiting for since the 90s.
I always hated all the 3d games.
This looks like the New Super Mario Bros. of the Sonic world! Classic gameplay but with fresh graphics and 4-player co-op.
I am concerned this will be designed for multiplayer play and not deliver quality levels. The jungle level was interesting but the others no so much. My experience tells me to be wary until i see more.
I was excited at the start when i saw the sprites and thought we would be able to switch back and forth or it was a mania 2. Too bad.
They want 60 bucks for this! Keep trying Sega.
Sick to death of Sonic personally, specifically because Sega has relished so much attention and marketing on it while abandoning almost all their other franchises. Especially the amazing RPGs like Shining Force and Skies of Arcadia. Two-plus decades on we haven't seen anything from either. No company in the industry has sat on more AAA properties and done nothing with them than Sega.
60 bucks for this? No thanks, I will wait till it's 20 bucks on sale.
@AtlanteanMan Would love a Skies remake.
Not convinced… Graphics are not good and the animation of Sonic running is really strange!
I just wonder why Sega still bothers…
The genuine surprise of the show. Looks outstanding, reminds me of when Mario went 3D on the Wii. Day 1 from me!
Now this was quite a happy surprise! I look forward to getting this in a few years for dirt cheap or free with PS+.
@RogerRoger Actual GOOD Sonic games too! So I've been told anyways, have yet to play any of them.
