All the free PS Plus Premium trials you get with a subscription to Sony's top membership tier are easily one of the most underrated features of the service, but not when they're this short. A new limited-time trial for Hogwarts Legacy has just gone live on the PS Store, and it's... 45 minutes long. That is not even enough time to complete the prologue and get to the castle.
It's better than nothing, of course, but every other PS Plus Premium Time Limited Trial we are tracking clocks in at least one hour, with some offering three or even four hours of play. This one will only give you a very brief taster of Hogwarts Legacy, learning some basic magic and exploring Gringotts. You've also got to consider whether it's even worth downloading such a sizable game to only have access for three-quarters of an hour.
Still, if you've been on the fence about playing the Harry Potter simulator, then this is your chance to go hands on if you have PS Plus Premium. Will you be doing so? Let us know in the comments below.

45 minutes is fine, but an hour? That’s taking the pi*s!!
Yeah, 45 minutes is taking the pee eye double ess. Like you say, better than nothing, but c'mon!
It’s typical of Warner Brothers
Depending on who you ask, that might not even be long enough to step out of Character Creation.
Doesn't the trial time include the time to download too or have they changed that?
Premium proving once again that it just isn’t worth the price tag — for me, at least, despite upgrading for a fiver.
@Anke They thankfully changed that haha, otherwise you might have maybe 30% of the game downloaded after 45 minutes!
Nice! I wanted to try this game. I’m not into Potter and typically don’t like spell only combat but it’s got such good remarks I gotta give it a try.
That's freaking hilarious, so glad I just outright own the game.
Thank you Cryan Ryan
You would think that they'd at least want to give you 2-3 hours to get hooked and go buy the game! 45 minutes just seems really cheap, like why even bother doing a trial at that point?
Free with subscri!
This must be a specific Portkey/WB directive. But something like this would have worked better with a quest specific trial end, you'd think. For example, get to explore some of Hogwarts to get that wow factor, before gating you from advancing any further quests. Players would have got to spend time making a character and get to see the game open out a bit, and then a happy gamer would spend their money to play more.
Stopping mid intro, or even in the character creator, if you like to spend your time on that, surely would just annoy people, and they might then wait if they eventually want to buy it. And if you rush a character creation, you might not like your character while playing too.
Ditch the timer and work something better out for everyone 🪄
A game of this size would probably be better off with a curated demo.
@Gaia093 i just keep my sister away from the trial she would be in the hood creator for hours (ridge racer ps1).
Soon will we have demos with just the game title screen. True gamers buy the game at full price if they like its font.
Does it still include download time or did they fix that? I can't keep up.
I can only assume that the best part of the game is at the beginning and they don't want me to play any further into it as it quickly becomes repetitive and boring?
Am I missing something, or are we now really at the point where people are paying money for demos?
@themightyant The time is only used up when the game's active, so no, downloading won't eat into it.
@Quintumply Thanks. I'm not going mad... it wasn't like that at launch right? Or was that a bad dream
@themightyant There was a brief period where the timer kicked in once you started the download, but as far as I recall, that was fixed when the new PS Plus tiers were introduced
@Quintumply Appreciated. Must have missed that crucial update.
Never done a game trial yet. It's a ridiculously stingy thing. Only certain few games on the list. A mostly useless feature.
